Hello everyone,

I put a photo on www.photobucket.com. Here is the image code

Can you tell what colors this mother cat and her
kittens are in the attached photo? The mother looks
golden and cream, one kittens is light brown with
pinkish tint in the light, and the other kitten is
really dark red. Zero white spotting. The sire is dark
red also. Fur on all three is dark down the spine and
gets lighter and lighter as it extends to the stomach.
The color on the individual hairshaft starts out the
darkest at the end, but gets uniformaly
lighter and lighter the closer it gets to the skin. I
am still having trouble matching it in cat books and
Internet photos because the satin (sparkling hair) mutation is messing
with the color. Thanks for the input.

The mother is a cream or a cameo. The others are reds, possibly smoke too. If the mother has WHITE at the base of the hair, then she's a cameo/smoke. Therefore the odd color/shading could be smoke.

Part the dark hair on the reds and see if its also white at the base.

Thank you for the reply,

Here is a picture of the undercoat of the red cat. It is an apricot color all the way to the roots with dark red tipping. No white on the roots of the light brown (cream?) kitten either.

Ok - they are (mom) cream and the babies are reds since there is no white base.  Creams and reds do have slightly different shadings, so maybe that's why you thought they were a little weird on colors.

Reds are one of my favorite color cats
