| Several weeks ago there was a thread on here about keeping ants out of cat food. I mentioned something I'd seen advertised called "The Antser" and someone else had seen one and said it worked. So I bought one to try. You put water in the bottom part, mixed with a little dish soap, and the food dishes sit on the top. Food can't get into the water, and supposedly the ants can't get to the top because it's made in such a way that they have to go through the soapy water to get on the top. At first, it appeared to work quite well. I even posted here that it does seem to work - I sure hope no one noticed my post and went out and bought one! This morning, I was horrified to see that the top was covered with ants on their way to the food dish, which was crawling with ants. I don't know what happened. I have it sitting on my carpeted dining room floor (no room in the kitchen for it), at least six inches away from a wall and nothing else near it. There's still plenty of soapy water inside - but no ants. Evidently the ants are much smarter than I and they figured out The Antser! Like the saying goes, "A fool and his (her) money are soon parted." Just wanted anyone who might be thinking about purchasing one of these contraptions to know - keep your $$!

| Some ants can cross a river, so it shouldn't be so amazing. I suppose some ants don't figure how to do that so it works for someone. That's awful

I am the inventor and seller of the Antser Ant-Proof Barrier.
When cats_dolls told me about her problem with the Antser by email I immediately replied in an attempt to solve the problem. I’ve sold over 4000 units with no returns or complaints, that is until very recently. It turns out that with this latest production run a very few units were not properly snapped together at the factory, causing the top section to drift around and make contact with the base outside of the moat, allowing ants to cross over. I took and emailed two pictures illustrating how to correct that problem (and also another issue that arose with a few units several years ago). I also made it very clear that she could return the Antser and get a refund. I would like to think that this forum, or my mailbox, would document my attempt, successful or not, to solve the problem, but to date I have received neither a reply nor a returned unit. Considering my good-faith effort, and the severity of cat_dolls comment at the end of her entry, I think a reply would be in order.

| Ant proof barriers don't get rid of your problem, they just divert it. They sell the ant killing tins where only ants can get inside, get the poison and take it back to the nest where the entire colony is destroyed. These tins can be put just under the fridge or in other places where your pets can't get to them and even if they do, they can't get the poison. In this way the problem is destroyed, not diverted. Sometimes the old tried and true methods are best. Below is a pic of Rusty smiling as he thinks about ants:

| Antserdude is correct - he did respond immediately to my complaint, and I do owe him an apology for not posting again on this forum about the problem. Antserdude, I hope you'll accept this apology. I was having trouble finding the thread again. Neither of the problems you described appear to be present with the Antser unit I have, and I have even added water to the section just ouside of the center part - yet I am still seeing ants. However, upon talking to our apartment management, I've been told that all of the ground-level apartments in this complex are having severe issues this summer with ants. It's the worst I have ever seen! I still haven't figured out why the Antser didn't work for me, but I suppose the fact that the ant problem is especially bad this summer might be a part of it. You didn't get your Antser returned, though, because the cats actually seem to like having their food and water dishes up on the platform! It appears to elevate their dishes to the exact height they need to eat and drink at maximum comfort. So it has proven to have an alternate purpose for which it does work well. Again, folks, I do have to give Antserdude credit for his excellent customer service - and Antserdude, please accept my apology for this late response.
