My 13yr old cat urinated on my new blanket last night!! My husband and I think he was marking the blanket or he does not like the texture?
He sleeps with us nightly and is used to our comforter and all its cat smells. Are we on the right track? We are cleaning it right now, hopefully he will not pee on it again. It's a fleece blanket..Your thoughts will be helpful.

Yes, he is most likely marking (is he neutered? How old was he when he was neutered?) or he is protesting the new blanket.

If he continues to do this, or begins urinating in other locations, seek veterinary advice. He may have a UTI or similar issue, or a behavior issue may have arisen. If the later is the case, look into your own behavior or routine that may have changed to cause him to be upset (New baby/new pet? Did you change his litter or food lately? Have you changed his litter box cleaning or feeding routine? ETC.)

Wash the blanket then rub some of his favorite toys on it, and maybe some of the clothes that you've worn that day to get both of your smells back on the blanket. If you already have some, you can try catnip spray. After it dries, it will not leave a residue or a smell, so don't worry.

I hope this helps!

I'm glad you've been in touch with your vet - I thought about this last night and didn't feel real good about it, 13-year-old cat suddenly peeing in the wrong place, and now pooping in the wrong place spells trouble.  Let your vet check him out & let us know!

Good luck.

I think I'll be going onto the cat health forum now..Moe has been at Penn Vetinary hospital since Thurs. night..Turns out when we brought him to our vet he started turning purple and was having trouble breathing..He has a heart murmur plus HCM (hypertropic cardio myopathy) since he was 5..He may have had it earlier but wasn't diagnosed until 2002..Anyway, he went into congestive heart failure and is on lasix and other meds..Hopefully picking him up tomorrow..His HCM has gotten worse and may have attributed to his defacating and urine issues..Although he may also have a UTI from his diabetes..Poor little pussycat..
Thanks for your help

I suggest you to use Cat Litter Box. A litter box wishing for a little privacy for cat. Cat litter Box offers maximum comfort for your cat and all the most practical accessories for you: Active carbon filters to reduce odours and a pooper-scooper holder with scoop included. Goodbye to tight spaces for kitty hygiene. A litter Box prevent cat urinate anyother places.
