My cat used it for about two weeks and then started just going outside the box. My husband asked me "how would you like to jump down into your own pee"? Although I clean the box several times a day the cat obviously has to go while I'm at work and then wouldn't go in it again. I brought out the regular covered box where she can step around previous pee pee's. I guess she told me.

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

Thanks! I bought a Sterilite tote at Wal-Mart for $4.50, and cut half the lid out by myself----costs a lot less and works just as well! Although it is a big pain trying to cut through the plastic. If you know someone who owns a hot knife (specifically made for cutting plastic), that would help a lot. The tote you use needs ot be big enough for the cat to get into, have enough headroom, and enough room to do his business. Some cats don't like these kinds of litterboxes, though, so you'd have to provide a regular litterbox, too, at least until you're sure he'll use the top-entry box.

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

Hmm Where do you find a top entry litterbox? That would help prevent accidents on the walls.

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

A covered litterbox might work -- that would be a hard habit to break if he is used to going like that. If he is attempting to mark territory they sell scent sprays at the petshop that are supposed to discourage it.

Good luck with this!

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

Yes he is neutered

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

Oh Okay, so there is no way to stop it then? We have done all that stuff, I was just wondering if there was a way to stop it. He only ever does it in the box so thats a relief!

RE: Wierd Peeing Habit

This is spraying. Hopefully he'll continue only doing it in the litterbox, and not take it to the furniture or walls. One way to help is to get a covered litterbox. If he doesn't like covered boxes, you can also tack a puppy housetraining pad to the wall behind the box, and put one underneath the box, too. I have to do that with all my litterboxes; for some reason, all my boys like to pee standing up.

Is he neutered?

Wierd Peeing Habit

I have a 2 yr old male silver tabby. He has a very strange way of peeing. He shakes his butt and pees against the side of the litter box, most of it goes outside of the box. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to correct it?
