She is a tortie point and has the bluest eyes you have ever seen. I know that one of the breeds that was used to develop this breed was the Siamese if I am not mistaken but I had someone ask me what the other breeds were not that this is all that important. I have a few books on the Ragdoll, but I moved in April of this year and am still looking for the books. I have done a great job of hiding them from myself. I just asked this question out of curiosity mor than anything else.

Michelle

Bombay?

I read the breed descriptions on the site and the way they describe Bombay, it sounds like any solid black cat would be a Bombay, is that true? I know they all have different personalitys but I'm looking for a breed that seems more for me. I like cats that talk and like to tell you of the day they had while you were at work, and will listen when you tell them off your day. Sometimes lap cats but most of the time will like to follow you and be involved in what you are doing. Can be calm and independant, and will like to snuggle with you when the sun is down and the night is cold. And, though he or she loves everyone, the cat loves to spend time with one specific person to bound with.

I know, I demand a lot Lol!

Russian Blue worries.

I have been looking for a Russian Blue (difficult buggers to find) because I have read with some people that if you have cat allergies these cats aren't as bad. I have some cat allergies but my sister has it worse so it is very difficult to find an agreeable breed.

I have asked people and read threads and I get the same response; unsure, don't know, maybe. I understand that even with shorter haired cats you could still be bothered by their mucous/saliva. I also read that female cats produce less allergens. I'm just getting desperate for answers because this is the only cat with fur I'd be allowed to get. I have been around a Siberian, however, and was not bothered at all by itchiness or having problems with my asthma. It was pretty nice considering it had long hair. I was surprised.
Sadly, I am not allowed a Siberian because my mother is worried about the long hairs/shedding. I turned to Russian Blues. I am okay with their personality, but I have friends in and out of my house and worry about its feelings (if it would be too irritating for this breed).
Then perhaps if I'm worried about it's personality then getting a mixed breed, domestic short hair and a Russian blue, might make chances for finding a kitten and having good traits. My mother is worried about this, too, because she thinks that it will bother everyone's allergies more if it's mixed. I am aware about genes, but I don't want to get my hopes thrown down.

What do you think I should do? Do you know anyone with Russian Blues that have allergies?
I am sorry for rambling. I am distressed about what my options are.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much.
Cats that don't shed?

I'm looking for a cat for my birthday that's four months away. I've heard a lot of places that usually longer haired cats don't shed as much as short hairs, but I'm not sure. I don't care if it's a mixed breed, male or female, but we have allergy issues in the house and while I'd take ANY cat (I've wanted one for three years now, since my dear Oreo went missing) my fiance is finicky because he doesn't really like cats. I'm as allergic as he is, but I know that every time I've had a cat, I get used to them quickly and have no issues after a week and a half with their hair and dander.
Anyway, he's allergic to the hair. So if I do get one, because I love the fiance too (^.-) I want to have a good chance of finding a kitty who doesn't shed much, if at all.

siamese prices

Hi, I am looking into buying a Siamese kitten from a breeder and was wondering what some average prices might be for a 'pet' quality kitten.

Also any suggestions as to what to look for in a breeder would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Victoria

Is a Bengal a good companion for my Ragdoll?

Hi, we're thinkig of getting a new cat, and are interested in the exotic look of a Bengal or Savannah. For originality, i threw an I on the end. I've been told his eyes look siamese, and he is extremely muscular for a house cat. His face is full of expression, and after 2 years I can always tell what he's thinking just by looking at his face. I'd like to know if it is possible he is part siamese, or other type of exotic cat. It is hard to tell, I know, from these pictures, mostly because he squints when the flash goes off. Usually, his eyes are huge, wide and liquid.

here he is hugging a friend.

oh yeah - and here's another funny one just for kicks.

any info you can give will be helpful. I have suggested various outlets for her to sell them (Her local family owned pet store, upscale city papers etc.) She will sell them for $2000 each. I've seen the kitties and they're gorgeous- worth every penny. She'll charge more for placements who prefer a declawed cat. She's named the kitties Precious and Mr. Big Eyes. So anyway, here's a backstory, I was getting my car fixed at my dad's place, and we saw this loveable little kitten out in the cold on the side of the road. I fell in love immediately. She followed me everywhere, and would just purr and purr. So, I took her home, and helped her regain her health. Now I'm trying to find out what breed(s) she might be, but I can't seem to find anything about it. So, I'll include some pictures, and maybe one of you can help me out? Anyways my roommates took in a all black stray cat she was scrawny, and then blew up in about 3 weeks time, needless to say she ended up being pregnant. She had the kittens about 9 weeks ago sometime in August on a Tuesday. The kittens appear to be Siamese, however some are more fluffy then others, as well as there was one black kitten who also has orange spots and has a semi-nub with no tail, she has issues using the litter box as it seems she has no control in that area, and the other kittens (6 total including the black one) are what you'd classify as Siamese white, with the dark nose, and tail with black rimmed ears. Well one of the kittens was born with no tail or nub, and she's completely white, and her fur is a different texture from the others. My question would be what other breed could they possibly be? We have the momma still I have pictures on my myspace, and I will be adding more with more detailed pictures if possible.

www.myspace.com/dgurl

click on the pictures and it is under the album labeled Pets.

I'm not sure they are good enough yet, but feel free to ask questions about them as well and I'll answer them as best as I can.

And total in all the cats in our house we own 10....yep!

What's a good breed of cat?

I was wondering what you think is a good breed of cat.

Maine Coon Single or Playmate cats?

After going through some threads here, I'm determined to adopt a Maine Coon. They said, he has a big muzzle just like the breed. Maybe he is part Ragdoll because he flops down instead of laying right down. Please let me know! I would like a second opinion. I know he isn't a regular black and white cat.

What breed is good for me?

I really need a kitten! I love cuddley cats that are really friendly and like to play. I don't mind taking the extra time to brush my cat so it can be a long hair or short hair. I travel alot and I am away from the house alot, and I don't mind taking my cat along with me on trips so it would have to be a cat that doesn't mind car rides and doesn't mind being alone for long periods of time(like a day or so). I hear American Bobtails are friendly from my friend is that true? I also might be moving in a couple years so I need a cat that can adapt to change. Is this to much to ask for? Please try and think of a breed that would suit most of these needs!

What's Good for Me + Cat???

I don't want to ruin my cat's life by bringing it into mine!!! I just don't think my chaotic life would be good for a cat, and if there's a breed out there that is OK with that life style I want to know about it!!! It started this past weekend, after he drank water. The vet had prescribed antibotics and a steroid (dexamethasone) months ago, when he had a cold. Which cleared things up. Including the rash on the back of his legs. Today is the 7th day of this medicine. But, I can now hear a rattling sound when he breathes. Do you think it's another cold? Or something else? I'm going to call the vet. But, wanted some extra advise.

Long hair, short hair, or medium hair?

Which of these three do you prefer and why?

Any thoughts on what breed(s) she might be??

Well, this is Sophie. We adpoted her from the Humane Society in Oct. 2007. She was abandoned by her previous owner and left behind in the house when they moved out. The new home owners found her when they moved in and she was near death. As you can see the Humane Society nursed her back to health. She is spayed and not declawed. They estimated her to be between 3 and 4 years old. They said that she was DLH. Our vet said that she looked to be something else but wasn't sure what. Her fur is very soft and silky. Her name given to her at the shelter was Janet, but the kids wanted to call her Softy, lol. We comprimised on Sophie. She is very affectionate, follows me everywhere, loves sitting on laps, very playful and is very tolorante of other cats and my kids (8 years, 6 years, and 16 months). Her fur hasn't gotten matted except once under her chin, she has greenish eyes, large paws and the under side is all white. Sophie meows a lot and she "talks" sounds like meowing and purring at the smae time kind of. Any thoughts on what a correct desciption for my Sophie would be?
<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" height=800 src="http://board.catchannel.com/Uploads/Images/a9cbbcf4-503f-443e-9dfd-2af1.jpg" width=600 onload=resizeThis(this)>

<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" height=800 src="http://board.catchannel.com/Uploads/Images/1c7e2653-b53b-4191-83b9-dd40.jpg" width=600 onload=resizeThis(this)>

<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" height=450 src="http://board.catchannel.com/Uploads/Images/a82c9e4c-3201-4970-9a27-6b53.jpg" width=600 onload=resizeThis(this)>

<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" height=450 src="http://board.catchannel.com/Uploads/Images/4bdd02ed-d3d0-46d1-b4bf-6189.jpg" width=600 onload=resizeThis(this)>

<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" height=450 src="http://board.catchannel.com/Uploads/Images/e0425630-8806-40d0-b79a-1452.jpg" width=600 onload=resizeThis(this)>

Need Advice on breeds

Hi

First let me start by saying I don't own a cat and never have. I have always been a dog person UNTIL a few months ago when a stray Maine Coon cat came into my life. I used to keep my dry dog food in a rubber maid container in the garage and kept hearing the lid being knocked over. I would come outside and never see what was doing it until one day I finally saw her. She had been living under the house next door which the new owners had taken the vents off so that she was able to crawl under the house along with a few other strays. She was black and white and BEAUTIFUL!! It took us 6 months to finally get her to let us not only hold her but also love on her. I tried to get her used to inside the house (I have dogs though) and she didn't ever like it so I was trying to ease her into it as I thought that was best (wrong as it turned out). Everyday she would be on my bench on my porch when I would open up the garage and would be waiting for her food and love as the kids were going off to school. During the day she would meow at the door for lovin from me and she would usually be there when my middle daughter got off the bus as she would sit on the bench with me while I waited. Not only did the kids love her as she was so gentle with them but the hubby who didn't like cats that much before her was now in love also (I was smitten the first time I caught her opening the dry dog food lid-she was very clever). Anyway before she could get used to inside she got hit by a car and it nearly killed me and the kids!! Needless to say we now all want a cat. My dogs have been exposed to cats in the house and they were all wagging their tails and seemed to enjoy the cat even though she was swatting at them (declawed- she was a rescue that we were thinking of adopting) and needless to say it didn't work out for the cat as she was an adult and hadn't had exposure to dogs (she was a Maine Coon also). Now I have decided on either a Maine Coon or a Ragdoll and wanted opinions for those who have both as to your thoughts on shedding, temperment ect. The one we had outside shedded A LOT but I have now been told that could have been since she was an outside cat or other factors involved that may have been affecting that. She was such an gentle, smart and kind hearted cat that she just stole my heart and I wish everyday I could go back and do things differently as I would have put her in the house on day one and I now Know she would have gotten used to things but as I said I have never owned a cat and didn't know much about them so I thought this was the right thing to do. Plus she never went near the highway to my knowledge before (we don't live near it either). I know all cats shed as do dogs (I have a pug inside and she sheds enough to make another one LOL). I have been thinking of getting a kitten so it can get used to my dogs and kids (the kids are good with small animals as I have a 4 lb chihauhua that I got as a puppy and they have never hurt him). Anyway your thoughts would be appreciated.

mischievous manx

Sorry to post 2 posts at the same time, but i was just wondering is a manx a good cat for elders. My neighbor has one and she is so sweet. She doesn't shed a lot either. But are they low key and not attention demanding all the time? If anyone has one or knows a lot about them, please tell me a little more about their temperament, and maintenance.

Which breed

    Which breed would be good for an indoor/outdoor cat if I provide it attention and food each day? When I live on my own, I might not be able to give it a lot of attention every day but I would like a nice cat that can be fairly independant. Many people might be in this situation, and I don't want to be one of those people who gets a puppy or kitten and doesn't have the time to care and raise it. I do not need a pure bred, but it would be great to know what kind of cat to get.

kitty quandary

For my grandma's birthday, we want to get her a kitten. She likes low maitenence animals. She has never had a pet either. I am so lost in breeds, there is a million. I was thinking, birman, ragdoll, or american shorthair, but like I said i have no idea! Please post breeds that are calm, low key, and don't shed a whole lot.
