So many of them in there. The only thing is I feel bad when I go there cause there are so many cats and dogs that I wish I can just take them all home.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

I voted for a shelter because cats at shelters are euthanized if no one adopts them, while it is very different at a pet store or a breeder.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

My vote is to wild. If feral cats are taken any where they are almost immediately put to sleep. No one takes care of feral cats. Since they are not domesticated it seems people just gave up on them. I am planning on getting my veterinarian degree for wild animals. It all started because of my love for creatures that are not domesticated. ^^ Go wild!

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

I have gotten my cats/kittens from breeder, shelter, and litter. So I could not vote for one. All my pedigrees were adopted from quality breeders. But I have adopted my mixed breeds from shelters or friends. I've NEVER got a kitten from a petshop and would highly discourage this method of getting a kitten!

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

I voted For shelter and wild, since my Loki was born feral, and took to being a housecat in 20 minutes. Gabe was brought to my house, because someone thought he was mine, (he looks a lot like Pea), and Pea was turned out by her old family- so technically all of mine are rescues.

The petstores in my area don't sell cats they do work in conjunction with Animal Friends, a no-kill shelter though. The only cats for sale there are up for adoption, so at least here (Pgh, PA) shelter and petstore are kind of the same. You can buy small animals, fish and reptiles, but you cannot buy a cat or a dog there. Come to think of it, the Petsmart closest to me, you can't ven adopt a dog there, only cats, that I've seen. My petco however frequently has rescue group with dogs needing forever homes.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

Our cats have come from different places...our first from a litter my inlaw's cat had...two or three which showed up on the doorstep and decided they lived with us...one from a used furniture store (she had been hanging around there, and they more or less said, "take her if you want"), one from the humane society, and one from a pet store, only because our old cat had recently passed away, and I knew my husband really, really wanted another cat, though he kept saying we didn't need one. But when I saw this kitty, I knew she was exactly his "type"...and proceeded to stage a scenario of "finding" her out in the field next door. He never knew where she came from until some 5 years later, when someone let it slip! You aren't going to be as likely to find purebreds in shelters - although you certainly can - but unless you specifically want a purebred, check with a shelter. Don't buy from a pet store, though - they tend to be too interested in the $$ and not at all interested in the health of their kitties. Good breeders do care about the kittens they breed and like to hear from you after you take the kitten home, including helping you solve any problems with your kitten. Shelters also may be very helpful, and shelter personnel like to hear about the cats they placed, especially as some of the shelter personnel may have fostered those cats.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

If I was looking for a purebred/show cat, would look at breeders.

If adopting a mix, would go to the shelters first, and local ads second.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

there's a catchy bumper sticker that reads, "don't breed or buy while shelter pets die" and I think that about sums it up for me.

RE: witch place would you get a cat?

Saving an animal is great so I vote shelter or rescue

witch place would you get a cat?

where would you preferebly get a cat or kitten?
