No association recognizes them.

And any "darwf " cat, no matter how cute is not healthy. Cats are small anyway - so breeding a smaller cat is very unwise. I suggest you spay/neuter those cats before you wind up with a lot of health problems.

Just the fact you are selling them at $2000 to "upscale" people, tells me you are not concerned with the health of the cat. You are producing designer cats and that is wrong. You are also messing around with several different mutations (one of them deadly if you don't know genetics) - tailessness, short legs, and hairless.

RE: Toy Manxkins

That's okay MallyO, it sounds like you had more important things to do. I'm glad to hear your neighbor's going to be alright. That's pretty scary. My family farms 3000 acres up north so I know just how dangerous farm accidents can be. She's lucky to have a neighbor like you who's well off enough to have a car to take her to town and be so helpful! It's a nice thing you've done!

It's not too bad here because the bears don't come down out of the mountains much. We'll have a problem if we don't get anymore rain soon- natural food sources don't grow so they come down looking for anything they can eat. They like pet food, crops, birdseed, trash and even licking the BBQ grill. (Did you know they're breeding dogs just to repel bears? Karelian Bear Dogs- they just pack up and chase the bears off. They tackle grizzly bears or black bears).

Sorry to hear the deer are getting the crops- that sure makes it hard for farmers to get by. You're lucky your DH is a truck driver so he makes money that doesn't depend on a good crop.

Hounds are nice. The sounds they make trailing raccoons or mountains lions is like music.

I'm happy to know Zeke's little problem has gotten better. Maybe he just ate something he shouldn't have and couldn't make it the box. That happens sometimes. I'm sure he's a beautiful kitty and he's lucky to have someone who loves him so much!

Have a GREAT day!

Happiness&Joy,

Wahoo

RE: Toy Manxkins

Dear Wahoo,

I'm real sorry I didn't get to write you a letter yesterday evening but my neighbor in the farm down the road fell off the tractor while she was mowing hay and only her youngest girl was at home so I had to drive her into town to get her leg checked out at the docs. They said she's gonna be fine but shes all bruised up and is real sore. Her husband works a piece away and didn't get home in time to look after her so I've been checking up on her today. She looks pretty bad but will be ok.

You've got grizzly bears at your place? I think I'd be too scared to live anywhere near them bears they are so mean. We've only got black bears here and we have to set the dogs after them sometimes. Last month a couple bears must a been roaming around because our dogs barked all night long and kept us awake. My husband drives a big-rig truck and aint always at home but he was that night and he went out and took a few shots toward the trees. It scared them off for a little bit but they came right back and them derned hounds started up all over again.

We got a real big problem with deers too. They eat all my neighbors corn and that hurts my neighbors real bad because they can't bring in but a few acres out of all they plant.

My Zeke is the only pretty thing around here because so many of these animals are pests. We got the dogs tied out back and if you like hounds they look pretty good. Zekes doing better with his litterbox now so he must have just been ornery about something.

RE: Toy Manxkins

Hey MallyO,

It's too bad about Zeke, he's sounds like a lovely kitty. Are you keeping his box really clean? You haven't moved it or anything have you? Sometimes that could cause him to not like it anymore. If you think he might be sick, maybe the vet can give him some pills or something. (I don't think your vet would retrain the old boy)Is he acting normal other than the box problem? I wish I could help you better. Let me know if anything I've suggested rings a bell!

As for your idea about the gun- thanks anyway. I do happen to have one exactly for moose hunting but haven't been lucky enough to draw a tag yet. We only put food on the table so it really wouldn't help me much.

It's a long way off before she breeds a litter but I'll keep you in mind if she needs a good home for a free runt or something.

Yeah, most of the people I've talked with here seem really nice. Sometimes it's hard being the new guy and not knowing who's who or what's what. The Cat Moderator seems really understanding though and helpful too.

Naw- we don't have many raccoons or foxes here. We do have griz bears, black bears, mountain lions, wolves and coyotes though- all pretty dangerous to our animals. We keep ours close so we can protect and watch them. It's worth the effort though- I love the wildlife too. Yeah, bears got into our friends cabin up in the mountains once- wow, what a mess!

As for the nieghbors many trespassing cats, I just think the best I can do is fence the entire place so my dog can keep them out. I'll put box fence up to hold the dog in but let the cats escape. I'd sure hate to see one get caught so we must hope for the best. I don't want the kitties to get hurt. They make me so mad and frustrated at their owner but I don't hold it against the cats. They don't know any better. I did catch one last night- kind of a siamese looking young tom. Dumber than a box of rocks but awful sweet. I tossed him back across the creek to his own yard.

Thanks anyway for trying!

Happiness&Joy

Wahoo

RE: Toy Manxkins

Dear Wahoo,

My big ole cat's name is Zeke, short for Ezekiel from the bible. We hoped he wouldn't be like Delilah, but it turns out he's about the same. He's just a big ole tom cat that we got from a friend who had a big litter. He's been the sweetest cat you can imagine but he's been having some kind of problems with not hittin his litterbox like he should (or maybe he's missin it on purpose). That girl Ragdoll Mom said I should take him to the doc, but I just don't see how the doc could train him to hit the litterbox any better than he has since we got him 8 years ago. I'm pretty confused about Ragdoll Mom telling me to take him to the doc. I wrote her a new letter but she didn't write me back.

I also hoped my idea about them cats messin with your dog would help you but it seems they done took away my idea about the gun. I didn't mean anything bad, I was just trying to help if I could. You got any idea why they would take away a perfectly good idea?

I sure wish I could see one of them manxkins kittys your sister has. Zeke would just love a new friend.

There ain't many people on this information place, but all those I've met have been real nice to me. I've still got to put up my little picture over on the left side of the page but I've got to find one first.

Since you live out in the sticks like I do do you ever have problems with racoons foxes or bears? I tell you, those racoons will kill your cat if they can. Derned bears will break into the shed and make a big ole mess.

I sure hope you find something to stop them cats from using your yard as a litterbox and messin with your dog.

RE: Toy Manxkins

Oh well, I'm sorry I wasn't a lot of help. I hope you find your kitty a friend that he can play with!

Too bad about your brother. Hopefully he'll settle down real soon.

What kind of cat do you have and what's his name?

RE: Toy Manxkins

Dear Wahoo,

Thank you for gettin back with me. I know all about those no good husbands running off. My sister in law's husband (that's my brother) is one of those no good husbands and he just aggravates me to death.

I don't think there's any pet places anywhere around here that would have those cute cats that your sister has, but thank you for checking with her just the same.

I don't think gettin my cat a goldfish would be a good idea, if you know what I mean. I don't think he'd play fair with it.

Thank you anyway.

RE: Toy Manxkins

I don't think so- she needs the income because her no good husband ran off and she can't work. You might check the pet store at a big city near you but these are awful rare. Your cat might just like whatever you find at your local shelter. There are always wonderful kitties there needing really good homes. Otherwise, get him a goldfish!

RE: Toy Manxkins

Dear Wahoo,

Well I'll be derned. I never seen no Manxkins, but they sure sound cute. Does your sister ever sell these cats a little cheaper? I think my cat might like to have one of those Manxkins as a friend around the house.

MallyO

RE: Toy Manxkins

Oh Marie (my sis) is just a cat NUT. She knows a lot more about this stuff than I do. We had lots of cats when we were kids but I haven't had one since I got married because the DH is deathly allergic. So I have the dogs and she's got the cats. (I also have the computer and she doesn't).

Anyway, Marie is disabled (she's got MS) and her cats are her world. Her dream is to support herself by sharing these wonderful creatures with others. Besides the two manxkins, she does have quite a few other cats but I can't keep track of them all. The two new ones are the cutest of all though. I can see why she loves them so much and I think it's good for her to have something like breeding as therapy. Keeps her busy. These aren't really "designer" breeds like dogs have- they are real, true new breeds. In this way, cats are far ahead of the game.

I like these purebred Manxkins because they can't kill wildlife like other cats do. What I really like is that they give Marie a type of freedom, unconditional love and the opportunity to generate her own income while sharing these wonderful creatures with others! She is so happy now!

Thank you so much SierrasMommy and TylersMom. Friendly people here make these boards so nice!

RE: Toy Manxkins

You know, I really am surprised! Lord knows, I work in an area where "designer dogs" from the pet stores are all the rage right now, so I don't get why the "designer cats" aren't as popular in my area. I mean, the pet owners in my area are kind of freakish and so are their designer dogs (who happen to mostly come out of the stores sick and the owners don't understand why and get upset), so why wouldn't they pick up on the rare cat trend? Guess they're a bit backwards and behind in the trends......Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.............

RE: Toy Manxkins

Manxkins? I can't believe how quickly breeds are showing up that I've never heard of before. Not long ago, I heard about a dog called a Snickerdoodle or something like that. I think it was a mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle. So a Manxkin must be a crossbreed of Manx and Munchkin? That sounds very special. I used to have a neighbor that had a Polydactyl cat. It also had blue eyes and was deaf, but she kept letting it breed because everybody thought the kittens were so cute. Too bad she didn't have your sister's business sense. She could have made a lot of money at $2000 per kitten!

RE: Toy Manxkins

Oh! They are sooo cute- they have short little legs and no tail. They come in lots of colors. Sister has a Black and white and a seal point. She hopes to add more colors later! Eventually she wants to add a hairless variety for those who need a hypoallergenic version. They have very wonderful personalities!

RE: Toy Manxkins

I've never heard of such a breed and while I'm no breed expert, I do know a few. She's expects her first litter in time for Christmas. I have suggested various outlets for her to sell them (Her local family owned pet store, upscale city papers etc.) She will sell them for $2000 each. I've seen the kitties and they're gorgeous- worth every penny. She'll charge more for placements who prefer a declawed cat. She's named the kitties Precious and Mr. Big Eyes. She expects to keep a female from her first litter to continue breeding because these are so rare.

Would anyone suggest and ad in CatFancy?
