If you are bore you can watch them and perhaps smile

I'll like watching yours.

Marena, my new cat. It's too hot for playing but she tries:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eB62qELD1E

Byakko:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90PdAql1jPw

Byakko and Suzaku discovering the water fountain:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNGK4c-iQJM

The first time they see ice. In the end Byakko eats a piece:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2l80lc0KkM

A little fighting:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnQ5_FVL__M

And playing with the camera. I'm sure everyone have one video like this. The interesting thing is that you can see Byakko going up the bed, but only if you pay attention:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4JSqjKp-nw

One morning in the living room:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOwOm_eOnzM

Playing with a some little toy mouses:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1VSc7w0xvU

How does your cat handle dogs?

I was kinda enerested in this since I might be concidering getting a dog.

Pumpkin update

Pumpkin is doing great since having her leg amputated a week ago. She is showing that she is going to be the dominant cat in the house. Nikkie used to sleep on the counter in the corner of the kitchen on her little bed I made but for the last few nights, Pumpkin has taken over that spot. There isn't a place in the house that she doesn't jump to...back of the couch, my bed, the window sills. She tried once to scratch her neck with that leg and believe me....she is getting spoiled rotten! I will try to get a pic posted on here where she is playing with baby Lucky.

How many cats do you own?

How many cats do you own?

FIP diagnosis?

My thirteen old month orange tabby has undergone numerous tests to determine the cause of a lingering eye infection. The last set of tests included a tracheal wash, abdomenal ultrasound and aspiration of fluid from the anterior chamber of his eye.
Currently he has granulomas in his lungs, elevated blood proteins, elevated liver enzymes, granulomas in both eyes, and since yesterday has developed an ulcer on his right eye. None of the tests(blood or otherwise) have come up with a cause. Tomorrow he will have his right eye removed, as he no longer has sight and the ulcer could erupt. They will biopsy his eye to see if they can verify a FIP diagnosis. Without the eye removal he would need to be put down this week. I am not ready to let him go, and inspite of his infections, he still eats, drinks, uses the litter and plays with my other cat.

The vet assured that he will feel better with the bad eye gone. I am hoping against hope it is not FIP and that we will grow old together.

Deep down I know that he probably has it. My question is... if you have had a cat with a FIP diagnosis how long did he/she live for?

I know that it is difficult to predict how long, as each cat is unique. The vet said maybe 6 months.

I can't bare the thought of losing my little 'boy', how do you prepare yourself for something like this?

I am a new cat owner, never had pets before, and so have never lost a pet. I lost my brother to suicide last August, and my little orange buddy was a kitten then and he got me through that rough time. I just don't know if I can cope with losing him too.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Most deadly

The #1 most deadly feline species are the ones we keep in our homes. We got him at 5months, and he meshed so perfectly to the personalities of my husband and I, instatainiously. we hadnt had him a long while when one day about to drive home from work, i heard meowing.. not happing meowing.. scared hurt meowing.. i looked all around, and then looked up to find a kitten, and small adorable kitten in a tree, lost hungry scared.. and being the cat lover i was.. i did whatever i could to get him down..

and i did!

i put him on the ground.. and sent him on his way..

only he didnt go..

he followed me to my car..

so of course.. what was i going to do? leave him in the cold wheather? i took him home..

he didnt get along with doodie so well.. but they did share a bowl of warm milk together..

my husband got home.. and immediatly was agaisnst keeping a stay cat, but we did find him a good home..

not too long after the cat leaving.. doodie started to act funny.. he was very anti-social.. and wasent eating..

now get this

we thought he was sad.. depressed.. because his new cat friend was gone..

then we started to notice a bloat in his stomach.. took him to some quack vet.. and he said he was constapated..perscribed laxative..

so we began giving him laxatives

needless to say..

it didnt do anything

he only got worse

his bones pertruded everywhere.. but his stomach was sooooo swollen and hard.. and bigger than him..

skipping ahead

one day it was so bad.. he was hiding in the corner not letting us touch him..

rushed him to an emergency vet.. where he instantly discovered he had FIP..

and had to be put to sleep right there.

crushed?

thats an understatement.

it took us a long while to recover from this loss..

but we did..

and now we have a new addition to the family once again..

so you can see why im so cautious about his health and medicines given..

but thanks to this board..

i feel much better

knowing i have people here to give me advise and help when needed..

so thank you.

all of you.

Update on Pharaoh

Pharaoh is settling quite well. He is an adorable little...well maybe angel isn't the right word...kitten. He is very mischievous though. He would have given Leo a run for his money sometimes!

He is learning the art of stalking at the moment. I think he's been watching snowflake. Snow has been stalking and pouncing Aila lately, because Aila keep smacking her and chasing her for no reason. Snow is trying to hold her position as Queen of our Pride.

Pharaoh enjoys pouncing his big "brother", Aster, our three legged cat. Aster doesn't mind- most of the time- he is so happy to have someone to play with!

Pharaoh had his vet appointment last saturday. He has coccidia, but he's on meds- and so are all of my others cats. $60 for four cats for two doses a piece of deworming meds. It better work.

More updates later after the fourth of July. We'll see if he's facinated with fireworks like Leo was, or terrified like Aila.

Looking for advice

Hi, I'm new to this site, but have a question.
I have a 4.5 year old female (Abi) who is a very sweet loving cat I adopted almost 3 years ago. 1 month ago I adopted a male kitten (Max) who is sweet, and of course loves to play. I kept Max in a separate room for a week, and worked on bringing them together slowly. Max now has free reign as does Abi, but she is now hiding most of the day. When she does come out, Max attacks her (I know he wants to play) and she hides again. When I clean their litter he goes in both boxes. It seems he is trying to dominate the house, but I miss Abi. I know it's only been a month, and it takes time, but I want to learn if anyone has been through this and see if there are any suggestions for me.
Please let me know of any suggestions.
Thanks!

Cute Cat Quotes

Here are some cute cat quotes. He doesnt like to drink water. Four weeks ago he got an UTI. He was put on an antibiotic. 2 weeks later I brought him back because he was the same. They catherized and emptied his bladder out. He is on Purina U/D can and dry food and a month supply of antibiotic. It has been another 2 weeks and he is still going to the litter box alot but he only does little dime size urine at a time. He had a little drop of blood that I noticed when he got out of his litter box. He will urinate on furniture or anywhere he is at also. I know he is in pain. What do I do next? Should I give up and have him put down or keep trying? Do you think it could be something else going on with his health? Any advice would be good. I am taking him back to the vet tomorrow.

How often do you take your cat(s) to the veterinarian?

How often do you take your cat(s) to the veterinarian?

your favorite breed

if you choose mixed or other please specify the breed

A New Room-mate

Regular readers will know that I have my hand-raised Motzie, as well as a small feral cat colony in my yard. Well, add one more to the crowd!

A young man, in a neighboring apartment building, has had a cat for several years. He was a very quiet, solitary sort. Neither he, nor his cat, were ever seen outside. Well, he moved away this weekend.

He left the cat in a cardboard box, outside someone's apartment. This cat, who has never been outside the apartment, got out of the box, then froze in confusion. She probably had never seen snow before... let alone the 6" that fell last night! He rang the other apartments' bell, then left without waiting for any response.

The box was marked: "Help Me! I'm a cat! No One Loves Me!"

The neighbors brought me the cat. A neutered female, maybe 3 years old, actual age and name unknown. I don't know what sorts of food or litter she's accustomed to. Her social skills are poor, and she's clearly terrified.

I am very disappointed in that young man. Heck, we had spoken a few times ... he should have known he could come to me! Ugh!

Anyway, though tomorrow is a workday, tonight I will keep an ear open for "Greycloud." I do hope she and Motzie make friends soon. Right now, she's hiding behind my indoor fish pond.

With my numerous perches, trees, hiding places, and window boxes, I at least can hope she feels at home in my very cat-friendly home!

Disclaimer on Emergency Situations

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY:

Never wait or post on the Cat Channel or any website for a response when your cat is in distress or in an emergency situation. Gypsy's eyes seem to be just yellow (though they do have a slightly darker yellow/light orange rim around them, but it's very faint) while Dimage has a very vivid orange, almost copper rim around his eyes. I've never had a black and white cat with eyes any other color than yellow... could his eyes be turning orange/copper? Dimage and Gypsy are about... oh, 4 1/2 months old, which leads to another question.

The vet I plan on taking my pets to won't spay or neuter a cat unless they are 6 months old... anyone know why? My old vet would fix a cat as long as they were weened. I really want to get Dimage fixed before Gypsy goes into heat, which I think she has actually just gone into this morning. :S

Last question - Lily came to us already extremely... round. She has a big flabby belly that almost hangs to the floor and my fiance guesses she's about 6 years old. I haven't gotten the chance to take her to the vet as her sudden addition was unexpected and we are currently rearranging our finances to be able to do so... what can I do, for now, to help start getting her weight under control? I like chubby kitties, but I want her to be healthy. She is fixed, by the way.

If you don’t usually take your cat(s) to the veterinarian, why not?

If you don’t usually take your cat(s) to the veterinarian, why not?

It was cute while it lasted

Well I'm sure some of you remember the post I made a week or so ago with Honey on top of the moose antlers. We all thought it was so cute, but I've decided it's more dangerous than anything. As I explained in the previous post, there are stairs underneath the antlers. She has started to play on the antlers, chasing her tail and everything. Well it has been twice now that she has needed rescuing. The first time she just slipped a little and still had a good grip, she just needed help getting down, but just a few minutes ago she was hanging on by a few claws. Moose antlers are very hard and don't really allow much give, even for cat claws so if I hadn't been sitting right there she would have fallen back-first onto the stairs. This really scares me because she's apt to kill herself up there. I'm not sure how to keep her from getting up there. Things like spraying her and saying no and making her get off only work when people are actually around. My grandmother will tell her to get off the table and the second she turns her back and leaves the room, Honey is right back up there. I'm reluctant to try sticky paws up there because I don't want her to get up there and have it jump her into falling off. I'm desperate for ideas on how to keep her off from there. I regret ever letting her get up there now.

Ants, ants, and more ants

I am starting to get those little black ants all over again. I can't keep her in the crate because she gets extremely stressed, but if I let her out and into my lap (while someone else is driving of course) she just likes to sit and look out the window. Even after getting shots and getting very angry at the vet she still enjoyed the ride home.

I can't wait until the new petco is built and opened in my area, I may actually try bringing her there, just for a car trip. I bought her two things that she actually likes and doesn't get bored of. First, I bought her treat dispensing balls. I didn't know that they even made those for cats. I use one for treats and another for catnip and what a hit that was! All I need to do is find big enough cat nip stems and not just the crumbled up stuff and that will have her going for hours!

The other toy I bought was called a "micromouse" It's a little remote controlled mouse! It was a $20 toy on clearance for $4.00! It takes less than a minute to charge and runs for a least 10 minutes. On top of that, it's really rugged. Honey got really rough with it and started swatting it everywhere and it still works like new. http://www.petco.com/product/12124/MicroMouse-Micro-Mini-Racer-Cat-Toy.aspx

I don't know why it got so many bad reviews, it's not the most powerful toy, and the charge doesn't last forever, but it doesn't take very long to charge it! I very strongly recommend this for cats that get bored easily.
You Might Be a Cat Lover If . . .

All of us on this site are cat lovers, and we know it. But what is a "real" Cat lover? I found this list of "signals" that indicate that one is a true "Cat Lover." It's cute, and I'm sure most of us can relate to some, if not most of them!

You might be a true cat lover if...

A cat butt in your face makes you feel at home.
Instead of saying "talk to the hand" you say "talk to the paw" or "talk to the butt."
You prefer the smell of a fresh cat litter box to fresh flowers.
You head butt your partner as a greeting.
You're allergic to animal dander but you have three cats anyway.
You've had 4 beers and 2 Pepsi's, but the cat sleeping on your lap prevents you from getting up to go to the bathroom.
You don't go directly to the bar after work to hang out because you have to go home and check on your cat first.
You spend more money on cat supplies each month than you do on chips and snacks.
You use your cat's picture as your avatar for forums and membership sites.
You spell out the word T-U-N-A, no matter when or where it comes up in conversation.
You turn down your spouse so you don't have to take the sleeping cat off your chest.
You keep the sliding doors to the patio open in 90 degree heat with the A/C on just so the cat can go in and out.
You leave your TV on when you're not home so the cat won't feel alone.
You call your spouse mommy or daddy even though you don't have any kids.
You carry pictures of your cat in your wallet or purse.
You feel out of place when meeting someone new if they don't raise their tail.
You call home every day of your vacation just to make sure the cat is ok.
You yell, "come on Fluffy" when it's time to go to bed.
You have full blown conversations with your cat in a "kitty voice."
Your cat knows more about politics, gardening, and global warming that your neighbor.
You give your cats only filtered water, even after you've seen them eat dirt and bugs on a daily basis.

What do I do???

I am currently stationed in IRAQ and need some ideas on how to save a Mommy cat and her 3 cute as a button kittens. I tried to get some help here on post but was told that IF they were caught they would be killed. Well, being a cat lover/owner, that was not even an option. I did have to move them away from the area we work in because, well, not everyone LOVES CATS and I didn't want to see anything bad happen to them. I really wish they had some place safe over here that i could take them to receive the proper love and care they deserve. Please, if you have any ideas i sure could use them.

4th of July Celebrations & Your Cat

If you let your cat outdoors, do you keep him/her inside during the 4th of July celebrations in your area? If not, why not?

I hate it when people drag their dogs to these things - they don't realize (or care) if it hurts the animals ears or frightens them. Sometimes I just want to knock some sense in their brains !

What do you look for when your voting for a cat?

Im curious, as i look at different cat profiles there alot of different numbers of votes per. profile so i was wondering . . .

what does everyone look for, in a cat profile to vote for them?

What do you think others should look for in a profile to vote for them?

Curious Suckling Behavior

We rescued a cat that had obviously been an indoor cat before someone abandoned her (de-clawed). She had been outside for over 2 years, and I had been feeding her ever since I inherited her with the house I moved to. She showed up one day badly injured, so we got her to the vet and saved her -- but we could not let her go back outside -- so my boyfriend (with 2 cats of his own) took her home to nurse her and keep her safe. Here's the question --
When she came to visit outside, she would climb up and suckle my shirt, shorts, whatever she could latch onto -- but when finished, she would go away.

Now, safe with Mike, she suckles (biscuits and all, leaving a wet spot), but then goes into a "trance". She lifts her head away from the wet spot, tongue stuck out, eyes glazed over -- and continues "suckling" into the air. You can pet her, talk to her - nothing phases her when she is in the "zone". This might go on for 15 minutes. When she comes out of it, she might go back to suckling, she might go to sleep, she might leave.

Has anyone else seen this? We figure she was taken from her mommy too soon, for sure - but this trance thing has us puzzled. It is very funny, though !
