Why is your cat named ...?

It is hard to put this question into words but I wonder why people name their cats their names? (Hopefully you understand what I am trying to say.) Here are all my cats:

Daisy Boy (I don't have any pictures on my computer but he was a brown tabby) He adopted my family, he was a pet across the street, owned by my neighbors daughter who was attending college. We heard them call 'Daisy' so we just called him Daisy. Well when the neighbors never said anything about missing a cat we took Daisy to the vet where we found out he was a boy. (Daisy Boy was our first ever cat, we didn't know the difference between male and female. He was neutered so it only made it harder.) So we just added Boy on the end.

Butterscotch (Bubbers)

Bubbers was also from the very same neighbor that Daisy Boy came from except I kind of stole him. Every day after school I would go over to the neighbors house and spend time with Bubbers and he just came home with me one day. The neighbors did thank me for taking Bubbers because he got in fights with their older cat Jack. Bubbers was named Butterscotch because of his beauty butterscotch colored eyes. They were delicious!

Coconut(Coco)

This is a little 6 month Coco. She was white, so her name was Coconut. But now she is every color under the cat rainbow (except orange and yellow).

And those of you who know Munchkin, she is my two week old kitten, we are not 100% sure that she is a girl so she just has a temporary name of Munchkin.

Furniture suggestions

Hello-

I am wanting to purchase new family room furniture but with two white indoor cats (one with long hair) I am having a dilemma. From reading other's comments, I'm assuming that leather is out. I'm thinking a light colored fabric is best since the cats are white. However, what type of fabric? And from where? I don't think microfiber would be very good since the hair would seem to stick to it easier. Any suggestions out there?

Our 2 year old cat just died after eating just a small amount of the Asian Lily fresh cut flower:

As spring approaches, lilies will become more common in households as potted plants or in bouquets. According to Michigan State University Extension’s Grower Guide, Easter lilies are the third most important flowering pot-plant grown in the United States, with l0 to 11 million plants produced annually. Unfortunately, several types of lilies can be deadly to cats. Easter lily, tiger lily, rubrum, Japanese show lily, some species of day lily, and certain other members of the Liliaceae family can cause kidney failure in cats.

Within only a few hours of ingestion of the plant material, the cat may vomit, become lethargic, or develop a lack of appetite. These signs continue and worsen as kidney damage progresses. Without prompt and proper treatment by a veterinarian, the cat will develop kidney failure in approximately 36-72 hours.

All parts of these lilies are considered toxic to cats and consuming even small amounts can cause severe poisoning. If there is a lily in your home, there is always the chance that your cat could be accidentally exposed. For this reason, cat owners should avoid exposing their cats to plants of the Liliaceae and Hemerocallis family.

I DIDN'T CHOOSE BELLA AND SHE DIDN'T CHOOSE ME. SHE BELONGED TO MY BEST FRIEND WHO ALSO SHARED HER LIFE WITH 7 DOGS 4 CATS AND 2 RABBITS. BELLA GOT LOST IN THE CROWD. I BARELY KNEW SHE EXISTED IN ALL THAT CHAOS.THREE YEARS AGO MY BEST FRIEND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A RARE TYPE OF KIDNEY CANCER. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS NURSING A 20 YEAR OLD CAT WHO WAS FIGHTING DIABETES...AND LOSING.BOTH MY TWO-LEGGED AND FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS DIED WITHIN ONE WEEK OF EACH OTHER. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY FRIEND'S SON SAYING THAT SHE HAD LEFT SOMETHING FOR ME IN HER WILL. HER MOST LOVED CREATURE IN THE WORLD, BELLA!

Well christmas is slowly approaching so I was wondering what everyone was doing for christmas with their cat(s). I used to buy my old cat Tigermis presents even though he didn't seem impressed with the wrapped presents he did like the treats inside them.

This year it will be my first christmas with my new cat Hemingway. I'm looking forward to how he will react with wrapped gifts and maybe a christmas tree too.

I will be getting him a new scratcher. Probably a very tall one since the one he got now is too short. I will probably also get some other toys as well, along with treats.

So please share your christmas gift ideas and other christmas traditions you have with your cat(s).

I have never had a cat that had a sizure(spelling} it scard me so bad all I could do was to hold him so he would not hurt himself, after it was over he was walking around like he did'nt know were he was.Later he eat a big dinner and was back normal he will go back to the vet in the morning........Has this ever happen to you?

Stanley is 16 years old I love him so much he is doing well for an old boy !

Okay, the truth comes out. A lot of those annoying, long posts/sermons I used to write were completely fake, in other words, not really me. Me and my sis (DesertJewel) would post stuff just so we could read all the replies and watch people get hyped up. I don't think I've done anything like that recently (I hope?), but I just want you guys to know what was going on with me back then. LOL I'm not like that AT ALL in real life, If you can believe me. I'm most certainly not outspoken, long winded ect. I'm sure you can't imagine it, but that's my fault for the way I purposely annoyed everyone in the past. Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!!

I do have outdoor cats, I do like tomcats and I have raised litters of kittens and I still have the same opinions on declawing and perm indoor cats, but It was mean of me to try to bug you all with them. Hope everybody can forgive me, I did cause a ruckus around here at times! Okay, its not funny.....

I hate my cat

I purchased a house a little over 3 years ago, and shortly after, a friend approached me to take a cat that she could no longer keep and care for. Having had a cat years ago, I thought, no big deal, and agreed. Little did I know that cats are very different from one to another.

This cat has been the stupidest, most annoying cat I have ever seen. All she does is meow and make messes. I've had it. I'm fed up. I want her gone.

The thing is, despite the title of this post, I am a nice guy, and I do not want to see anything bad happen to her. It bothers me to think of her being uprooted yet again and put into another strange environment. I can handle that though, if I know that she is ok and well loved for and take care of.

I'm looking for help. I don't want to put her on craigslist because I know that can be a site where unscrupulous people prey on 'free to good home ads' for their own intentions that are harmful or deadly to pets. I don't want to give her up to a shelter because that's just another unfamiliar and upsetting surrounding in her journey to a new home.

I live in Dallas. It would do us both well (me and my cat) to part ways. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me? I have asked all the friends and coworkers I know if they know anyone wanting a cat. I have not had any luck.

Yesterday I got a call from the lady who adopted Oliver. She unfortunately had to return him because she is in a very bad financial situation. She's had her car repoed and is about 1 1/2 months behind on rent. Her grand parents are her land lords but are not what you would call 'understanding' about her situation. They have threatened to kick her out at the end of December if she can't pay anything by the end of this month.

I told her that I would hold Oliver for 30 days for her. If she wasn't able to get back on track, I would put him up for adoption again. She was so thankful I offerend to keep him for her for a while.

She may have to move in with her mom, who already has 3 cats. She is trying really hard to convince her mom to let her keep her first cat, Stormy, whom her 3 year old son is really attached to. Mom's not sure yet.

Poor Oliver was so upset and confused when he came back. He was whinning and slept by me all night. He's eating okay right now- I will have to keep an eye on that- so we'll see if he gets his appetite back.

So, if you could send up some prayers for Oliver and Stormy's Mommy that way she can get back on her feet and be able to reunite with her kitty again! Thanks!

I've been gone for awhile lost my job back in February and just now getting really serious about looking. I've had a couple interviews, but I need to throw out thanks to whomever it was who on here who first told me about Blue Buffalo.
I was at Petsmart today to pick up my monthly bag of kibble, and the regional and corporate people were there, and I may have just stumbled into a part-time job with Blue Buffalo!

I was at work the other night and a friend and I were showing off pics of our cats to one another. Well, she told me she had a kitten that looked like one of my cats but awhile ago it had been killed. She told me her husband was going to sit down in the rocker recliner and didn't know the ktten was underneath it and the kitten ended up getting killed. It had its neck snapped. I could of threw up I felt so horrible. Total accident but one that alot of us don't think about. My kids and I are always aware that if we sit in the recliner before we put the footrest down to always ask someone if they any one of our cats (we have three) underneath it or to be aware of where the cats are when we rock in it.

I'm sure alot of people are aware of this but pass it on anyways to anyone you know so we can make other aware of it also.

Hi everyone!I found a stray cat and I have no idea what to do.He is very friendly and we think he might belong to someone tommorow we are going to go put up flyers and ask around if it belongs to anyone.Me and my neighbor have been feeding him and he is so friendly and loves to cuddle!I cant take him in my house because I have Mia and couldnt get to the vet to get him examined.We put a dog igloo outside with a blanket and food and water!What else should I do.Should I try and find him a home if we cant find his owner?Thanks everyone!

We discovered some time ago.....(three cats ago) ....that a wonderful and healthy food for your cat is cantaloupe! My husband had made a fruit bowl for both of us one day for breakfast.and I had put mine on the coffee table. Next thing I knew, my kitty, Ozzie, climbed over there and started picking out the cantaloupe, leaving all of the other fruit. All of our kitties since then relish the treat of cantaloupe with their meals....a healthy treat!!!!!

Sun worship

this is just my observation, but my ginger tabby is also my primary sun worshipper. The only thing he will really fight about is a sunbeam. My other cats not so much. So I was wondering if other people who have light colored cats have noticed this also, that they like the sun more so than darker coated cats?

I am close to getting back on our regular visits to CC, I can't tell you how much I miss chatting about the furkids.

Hoarding Kitten

So, I'm having a Halloween party on the 31st, so I've been cleaning the house in preparation. I've uncovered all (I hope) or Pixie's little stashes.

She had a stash of tissues half shredded in the bottom corner of the office shelf.
Individual white socks in the corner by the hutch
Two full pairs of socks folded together behind the downstairs toilet
And black pens under my side of the bed

I just don't understand this one! It's so hilarious, but it bothers me that I can't figure out why she does it! She has to 'kill' the tissues and socks before she hoards them. WHY? HA!

This past Friday marked a milestone for me and my cat - it was our fifth anniversary together. On Oct. 16, 2004, a big, beautiful Siamese stray I had seen hanging around the apartment complex ran inside my apartment with me when I opened the door coming home. He went right to the fridge and sat down, and all I had to feed him was some lunch meat - he ate the whole pack, poor hungry thing. I left the door open for him to leave whenever he was done, but he just stretched out in the living room watching TV with me, and when bedtime came he still didn't want to leave, so I just closed the door and let him stay. And the rest is history. I'm very lucky he chose me to move in with. He is a wonderful cat, very affectionate and sociable, and I often wonder how he came to be a "street cat."

Here's hoping for many more happy years together!
