But I created Cat Club profiles for them and you can view them here:
http://www.catchannel.com/blog/viewbio.aspx?apid=148772 (oliver)
http://www.catchannel.com/blog/viewbio.aspx?apid=148773 (kyra)

I created the accounts on my lunch break at work, so the main pictures are not of them, and I'm having some trouble figuring out how to change the main picture. However, if you scroll down where all the pictures are at, Oliver is the orange kitty, and Kyra is the spotted gray tabby sitting on the green and brown toy.

RE: Oliver and Company

They still have a great foster mom.

What do they look like? Unfortunately, I think they were looking for itty bitty baby kitties...not one year old cats. So, we'll see if they call again. I doubt it though.

These guys are just so sweet! They are going to make someone really really happy! They are great family pets! People just can't see past the age. Everyone wants little kittens. They are driving me nuts, but I know they can't help it.

I still have to keep them isolated in the cage for most of the day (or at least when I'm not around) because Oliver is still sneezy. But every time I let them out, they tear my house apart! I know it's just them letting out energy and frustration from being locked up all day, but it's difficult, and sometimes I wind up having to put them back in the cage because they are just being too crazy.

Oliver ripped a huge hole in my table cloth from trying to climb up it and nearly knocked down 3 laptops onto a hardwood floor.
Kyra has unplugged all of our computer single handedly (including our firewall and server- my fiance runs his own computer sales and service business which is just getting started and being run out of our home; hence the major computer set up). She knocks things off the table, counter, end tables all the time. She even plowed through a pile of newly folded laundry just for the heck of it!
Honestly, they aren't very smart cats. I think a lot of that is the little human interaction they've gotten over the last year. Pixie seems to be more intelligent than them- at least she is learning commands unlike them.

I hope I can place them soon. I'm waiting on a sign company to get me proofs of the signs to I can approve it, get it printed and start advertising these guys! They really need a home where they can just run and never get locked in a cage again; where people are always there to love and play with them. With school, a part time job, running FeLV Advocate, trying to take care of my own cats' playing and loving needs and training Pixie, my hands are full!

I wish I could do more. I can't even find foster families for them! I'm thinking about getting rid of the Adoption Program from FeLV Advocate, at least for a little while. Until I'm a bit more established and prepared. All of Pixie and Oliver and Kyra's expenses have been paid from my tax refund money that went into my account in April as an owner deposit. Needless to say, I'm out of money. I've had no feline behavior service calls to bring in any more money from the business side.

I guess my heart got me in a little bit of trouble this time. I've learned my lesson. And I think if I hadn't taken in Oliver, Kyra and Jemmi, I might have been able to afford Pixie's expenses and possibly be able to adopt her.

Oh well...I guess I'm ranting here. I just feel so bad for them!

RE: Oliver and Company

Oliver went to the vet on tuesday. He's on antibiotics and has to get a nasal rinse twice a day (poor guy!). He does GREAT though. He is the easiest cat to pill EVER, and he takes his nasal rinse with little fuss. He is just a fantastic cat, and I can't wait to see who is going to be his forever parents, because they are going to be so lucky!

Hopefully, the antibiotics will clear things up. He's had on and off respiratory issues for over a year. The vet said if the antibiotics don't work, we will have to put him on a nebulizer and it could be chronic- meaning he may have to have treatment for the rest of his life.

I think the antibiotics will help though. He is already sneezing much less. Also, I think just getting him in a cleaner environment that isn't so moist and humid has helped too.

RE: Oliver and Company

Thats funny, I used to worry that Sadie would jump in the fridge because she used to sleep in front of it, she liked the warm air coming out of the bottom. But I didn't get why she would sleep there, yes it was warm but once someone opened the fridge she got a cold blast of air. Silly cats!

RE: Oliver and Company

So, I was just setting the table for dinner. I opened the fridge to get the butter and bread out and set it on the table. We were watching Pirates of the Carribean. Kyra was standing up to watch TV (she LOVES to watch TV!) and Oliver was...somewhere.

After the first commercial, we heard a quiet mew. We didn't think anything of it at first- Pixie had been carrying on upstairs to be let out, but she was out all morning before I went to work, so it was Ky and Oliver's turn. Then, we heard it again and again. Aster was looking towards the fridge.

I thought, "No way did one of the cats get under there!" I pulled all the reusable grocery bags out from beside the fridge, the mewing right in my ear. I looked behind the fridge, under the fridge. I finally opened the fridge and out pops and Oliver! He nonchalantly walks over to a sunbeam and sits there grooming himself vivaciously. Snowflake growled very deeply and angrily at him as if to say, "And THAT is why we do not go into the Big Cold Box, you stupid cat!"

Luckily he was only in there for less than 5 minutes, and since it was the fridge and not the freezer (or oven!) he is perfectly fine. But believe me, we were rolling and laughing for about 5-10 minutes on that one!

RE: Oliver and Company

Bless you! A friend of mine (known her since 2nd grade) is fostering her. She loves torties and is a very gentle, patient person, which is what Jem needs.

I feel bad because it has been difficult rotating Pixie and Kyra and Oliver to come out and play. Pixie can't be out when the other two are out because she is not vaccinated. At least my residents are vaccinated, and they have been keeping their distance so I'm not too concerned about the URI spreading (and I disinfect like crazy after they go back into the crate). Oliver (and Kyra) are going to the vet on Tuesday.

Hopefully there will be an exchange of services then. Dr. Bob wants me to teach some kitten classes and cat agility classes. I'm hoping to negotiate and get free or very low cost vet care in return.

Again, sorry no pics yet. Didn't get any of Jemmi before she went with Erin, so I will have to ask Erin to send me some (or go over there and do a little photo session one day). I've been very busy this week- working today and tomorrow, preparing for watching my little siblings (15, 12, and 8 years) this weekend and getting the fosters. It's been crazy!!!

RE: Oliver and Company

WOW what a big family! They have been spayed and neutered, but they aren't up to date on vaccines like I was told. They each had one FVRCP back in August of '08.

Oliver is the boy. He is very friendly, but has a minor Upper Respiratory Infection. He seems to be the most bold out of the three. He has ventured downstairs. He doesn't like to be held, but will sit in your lap if you sit on the floor.

Kyra (formally Kira- I just thought Kyra fit better) is a spotted gray/tawny tabby. She is probably the second most bold, but still a bit timid around the other cats. She's fine around people. She doesn't like to be held at all, and kind of walks in your lap, but she does love to be petted.

Jemmi, or Jem (formally known as Jenny- again, thought the name fit better and I believe in New Life, New Name most of the time. Oliver's name just fit him too well to change) is the biggest of the three and is a Tortie. She is very shy and timid. I can pick her up to put her back in the crate (temporarily have them in a crate until they are acclimated and Oliver is treated) but she doesn't like to be held. When she has been let out, she doesn't leave the room.

I was a little worried about getting these cats in the beginning. I know I've said to God to please send any animals my way that I am supposed to influence and find homes for. But I was starting to worry with 4 residents and 4 fosters.

Then, I met their previous owners. The younger girl works at one of the county shelters. I guess they were putting down kittens there, several trash bags full at a time. She brought many home and hand raised them and attempted to find them homes. Well, her heart made things get a little out of control. 75 (that's the right number) cats, 7 dogs, 4 kids, 1 adult and 1 unemployment check to feed everyone. Bless the family for doing what they could, but they were very uneducated people in so many regards. The cats are very under weight and somewhat unsocialized. The family eventually got the cats down to 8, including the 3 I have.

I realized that these cats really needed to get out of this situation and God sent them to me for a reason. I shouldn't question why some cats are sent my way and others aren't. The family got lost on the way here (they were an hour late). The daughter goes to the college two turns and 5 minutes away from my home. Then they parked in my neighbor's driveway and was beating on her door and ringing her doorbell. Poor lady works 3rd shift and was in the shower! When she redirected them to our house next door, they didn't even bother to drive one house over and park in our driveway. Now, I live on a perfect, picturesque, white picket fence street. The house numbers are visible from the street and our neighbors are about 20 steps away from our front door to theirs. These people just should not have animals at all.

So, I will give you updates as I can. Currently Oliver is trying to find ways to get into trouble behind CatDad's computer desk. Gotta go rescue some wires!
