People needing to leave an abusive relation and their only way to get out is through a domestic abuse shelter were/are faced with leaving their much loved pet behind, knowing the person who has been abusing them will retaliate by torturing and/or kill it or stay with the abuser so they can protect their pet.

The only problem I have with PAWS is that the name states the program is for women. A great number of men are abused by their spouses/partners. I'm sure PAWS is open to men who are seeking a way out of their abusive relationship; However, there is a stigma for men who ask for help in getting out of their abusive situation and by calling the program Pets and Women’s Shelters Program adds to the stigma they are feeling that men who seek help to escape their abusers are effeminate. However, if the program found a way to add men to the title, they'd lose the cool, easy-to-remember name of the program.

RE: PAWS Program

This is long overdue. Especially when the economy is as bad as it is now, women and pets end up getting used as targets for men's frustration and rage over getting fired/laid off, trying to find work and there isn't any, etc.. Definately the word needs to get out there.

RE: PAWS Program

I don't think many people know that there is such a thing. So i think getting the word out about programs that incorporate the two is overdue, because much like during Katrina the emphasis is saving the lives of the women and the poets aren't even considered.

RE: PAWS Program

I think it's great program I think there shoul be a lot more programs like PAWS.
