You want to get the urine scent neutralized or kitty might smell it there again and "remember" that the bed is a cushy place to go!

They do sell "cat off" sprays at the pet shop, if nothing else, you can spray that where you don't want kitty going.

When you get a confused kitten, it just takes time and patience. The vet is coming tomorrow morning. He has now taken to peeing in the bathtub. It is a seperate unit from the shower. Makes for easy clean up and I was able to get a urine sample incase he has an infection. I think I need to keep him confined to the bathroom and put his litter box back in there as well. What do you think? Thanks again!

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

In my experience, it's best to "crate" a kitten the same way you'd do with a puppy, so that he can develop good litterbox habits. You can use a dog crate that's big enough for everything the kitten needs (litterbox, food, water, bed, some toys, etc.), or you can use a smallish room that doesn't have a lot of furnishings (like a small bathroom), and keep in in his area whenever you can't watch him. This has worked better for me.....unattended kittens can get into a lot of trouble.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

Kittens can be neutered as young as 2 months old if 2 lbs in weight. I prefer to do them at 3-4 months old, so your kitten can be done now.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

Thanks!! I think I will do that. He did it again last night!!! Grrr!!! Running outta clean sheets and time to wash new ones. LOL!! I am calling the vet this morning to come and check him out. I will let you know the outcome.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

Try adding a littter box back on the main floor (or even to both main floor & upper floor if possible) and see if that helps. 12-week-old kitties get busy playing and try to "hold it" as long as possible - just like little children sometimes do - and it might just be that he can't wait to get down to the basement. As he grows older and gets more accustomed to his new home, you can try removing the extra boxes again.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

Ok so it was a week ago that we "just adopted" him. In my other post I did say that we kept him confined and gradually moved his litter box. He has not been spayed yet. He is only 12 weeks. Not sure how soon I can get that done. I will have the vet come at the end of the week though and check him out. Thanks!

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

I don't think he is being harassed by the other pets. He peed on the bed while one of the dogs and the old cat were up on the bed sleeping with me. We did confine him to the bathroom for the first week. And gradually moved the litter box to the basement. It is a quiet place. There are two litter boxes in that room side by side.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

How long ago did you "just adopt" this kitty? If it's only been a few days, he might just be confused and overwhelmed and not remember where the litter box is. You may be better off to confine him to a bathroom for a few days and gradually expand his territory.

RE: 12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

Is the kitten spayed/neutered? While the kitten is young, it is possible that the kitten may have a urinary infection - I'd make a vet appointment and have him/her checked out.

If the kitten has no UTI, then confine it to one room with its own litter pan for a week. You may need a 2nd pan if you are only using one pan. Is the litter pan in a quiet place? Is the kitten being harassed by the other animals when it goes? All of these things might be the reason your kitten is using your bed - its safer.

Do a one-by-one elimination and see if you can figure it out.

12 week old kitty peeing on our bed

We just adopted a kitty and he has peed on our bed twice. Can anyone tell me why he would do this and what I can do to prevent it from happening again? Just a little info. We have an older cat that is 16 and 2 dogs. He seems to get along just fine with all of them so I am not sure what the problem could be. Thanks!
