I recently moved to a new house in October and I'm afraid that Judy became disoriented by the storm and can't find her way home. I have combed the neighborhood and asked people who were out walking if they had seen her. I have called and called for her. She is an eldery cat (12 years old) but in good health. She has been an indoor cat for all of her life, with an occasional trip to the backyard for grass under my supervision. The thing I feel so terrible about is that I didnt have a collar or tag on her. I have left the back screen door wide open which leads to a screened in patio room, her favorite lounging area.

Please help! I've written before about 2 things my cat is doing that are bringing me to thinking maybe we're not well suited for each other. Ever since I got her at 9 mos. old (I will have her 1 year iin May) she has been a biter -- attacking my legs and arms and biting hard enough to cause bleeding. I have tried spraying water in her face, placing her in another room, scolding. Nothing deters. Then about 6 weeks ago she started peeing anywhere but her litter box and attacking more. I've installed the Comfort Feliway diffusers - no results. I took 2 business trips with just 10 days in between and I know she was mad that I was away. A friend came to the house to feed her and play. She won't cat-sit anymore as she was tired of getting bitten.

I have taken Gracie to the doctor for a check up and there is nothing wrong. I leave for work at 7 am and usually return home by 6 pm. She has lots of toys around the house and I play when I get home. She's so loveable at night - she sleeps on my chest or next to me. She cries when I leave for work. She knows the sound of my car and when I pull in the driveway she is crying quite loudly at the front door waiting for me to open it. Some have suggested another cat as a playmate. I'm worried that I'll have 2 cats peeing around my house instead of one! I travel about every 8 weeks for a week or 2 at a time.

Do I have a cat that needs someone around all day? What can I do to stop these biting and peeing issues? I'm really thinking about giving her up which saddens me but I don't know what else to do. I have young nephews that I do not want to experience her biting and friends visiting with children in the near future and don't want to worry about Gracie's behavoir around them. Thanks for your help.

Miranda - Moving to Hawaii

Hi! My name is Tina and I am Miranda's mom. Miranda is an 11 year old Siamese mix. She is a very sweet cat and I can't imagine my life without her. We are looking at the possibility of moving to Hawaii very soon and I am looking for someone who has gone through this experience to share information with. I took Miranda to the vet today to start the process. There is a distinct chance that my husband will have to leave before the 120 day waiting period is over and Miranda and I will have to remain on the mainland without him. I'm concerned about the process and would love to hear from someone that has been through it.

Do your kitties cry when you take their toy away?

My cat Pepper is very attached to a broken hair band. She'll carry it around, lay down with it, and just go everywhere with it in her mouth. One day, I threw the string (hair band) onto the fridge by accident. Half of it was dangling off the fridge and she couldn't reach it. She stood there for about ten minutes trying to find a way up. Then she started to crying until i gave it to her. Sometimes when I play with her, i would tease her by holding the string too high for her. She would start meowing after two minutes.

Do any of your cats have toys they are severely attached too? :-D

(just a random picture i came across)

Bee or Wasp Sting

My cat was eating his cat food and he got stung in the eye by a bee or a wasp. I wasn't sure which exact subforum to ask this in...

I had my young female spayed cat front declawed (laser) last Wednesday. I brought her home Friday and she is still lathargic. She eats well, potties well, grooms herself...and the goes to sleep, which is a far cry from the way she was pre-declaw. That little gal lost toys under the furniture as fast as I could give them to her! Now, she doesn't leave my couch except to do life's necessities. I called my vet to ask if this was normal, and they said it may still be effects from the medication they gave her (something that starts with an F, pills for the having discovered ear mites). They also had given her an injection of Ivomec (I thought that was only for cattle!).

Is this normal? How long should I wait to be truly concerned and bring her in perhaps to another veteranarian?

Does your cat try to lay on your reading material?

My cats will try to lay on anything that has my attention including more reading material. We have an about 7 or 8 year old female that likes to talk when she has a toy in her mouth. It first started with a peice of string that they like to play with and now it has moved on to this mouse that use to be on a string. At night you can hear her from across the house and then as she gets closer to my room she gets louder and then drops this mouse looking thing right outside my door. I'm just wondering how she is doing this with her mouth full.

Omen

This is Omen

Hope you like.

Thank you for these channels

Throughout the years I have subscribed to Cat Fancy magazine, I have ordered products and have pass articles to my other cat loving friends. Non cat owners do not share the passion and can not understand the desire that we have for the well being of our kids.

I always new that there was more out there and then one day a friend email me the web address to these channels and I have been hooked ever since. It is a confirmation; it is an affirmation that there is a community of like minded souls that have your passion and desire for a healthy long life for their children. It is refreshing to read others comments and the antics of their children. It’s good that we have forums where we can discuss the contents of the food we serve our kids and what toys are great for them. After owning a cat for 5 years I have learned so much this past month and I am looking forward to learning so much more.

I was telling Sadie the other day that I have found his lost Aunts and cousins, I have found others that legitimately care about his well being and for this I am thankful.

I truly appreciate the thoughts and the effort that everyone puts into these channels for the betterment of our kids.

One last note:

In spite of the rumors about men owning dogs I am 6’2’ 245 pound brown eyed ,15 year ex-military man “Real men do love and own cats”.

WILDFLOWER

HI! MY NAME IS DIANE AND I AM THE PROUD MOM OF TWO BEATIFUL LITTLE GIRLS. MY OLDEST IS

MISTY, SHE IS A SEVEN YEAR OLD MAINE COON, WHICH WE ADOPTED FROM THE LOCAL HUMANE

SOCIETY SIX YEARS AGO. MY BABY, IS WILDFLOWER, A FLAME POINT HIMALAYAN. WE ADOPTED

HER TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO. I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM OTHER CAT LOVERS. I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT MY GIRLS, THEY ARE UNIQUE IN MANY WAYS. MISTY IS LEASH TRAINED AS WELL AS BOUNDARY

TRAINED. WILDFLOWER, WHO WE CALL FLOWER, STAYS INSIDE MOST OF THE TIME, SHE SEEMS TO BE FRIGHTENED OF MOST THINGS AND IS JUST MORE COMFORTABLE BEING MY LITTLE SHADOW. BOTH GIRLS HAVE HAD SOME ROUGH TIMES IN THEIR LIVES. MISTY WAS ABUSED BEFORE COMING TO US AND WE HAVE HAD TO WORK REALLY HARD TO GAIN HER CONFIDENCE. FLOWER WAS SHUT UP IN A ROOM AND HAD VERY LITTLE ATTENTION. SHE STARTED HER LIFE AS A SHOW CAT, BUT IT SEEMS HER NOSE WAS NOT FLAT ENOUGH SO POINTS WERE LOWER THAN THE BREEDER LIKED. SHE WAS SOLD TO A CO-WORKER OF MY DAUGHTER. THE LADY DID NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT CATS AND WAS CONSTANTLY ON THE GO. FLOWER WAS KEPT IN THE LADY'S BEDROOM SO THAT SHE WOULDN'T GET HAIR ALL OVER THE HOUSE. SHE HAD VERY LITTLE SOCIAL TIME WITH PEOPLE SO SHE HIDE MOST OF THE TIME. WHEN WE BROUGHT HER HOME WITH US IT WAS TWO WEEKS BEFORE WE COULD COAX HER OUT OF HIDING. IT WAS SO SAD. TODAY SHE IS SOCIAL, WE HAVE NO CLOSED DOORS, AND SHE ENJOYS HOURS OF PLAYTIME AND LOVE WITH MY HUSBAND AND ME. He weighs about 27 pds and is a very loving cat. Next is my baby Meiko. Meiko is 2 years old and I brought her home from my cousin's house a baby. I knew she was the cat for me when I found out that she and I share the same birthday. She is very much my baby. She waits by the door at night waiting for me to come in from work. Basically she has everything she needs n wants and knows how to get my attention. When i am sitting at my computer she gets up on the desk n walks back n forth in front of me. Also when she wants me up in the morning she is very persistent, she taps me on the nose to let me know its time to get up. She will lay for hours on her perch in front of the window watching the comings n goings of the world outside as she is an indoor only kitten. Some times she will get a wild streak and run thru the house and occasionally chases our poodle around, who in turn chases her. He is tall, muscular, spoiled rotten, master of our domain and truly is the king of the house. As you continue to read below we are torn on adding another cat to the family (see below previous post) and it was recommended by Ashi & Miko mom to ask you about the personality traits of Bombay/Burmese as it relate to bringing another cat in the home.

Some background:

I want Sadie who is a big spoiled, king of the house male to have some company. I want a larger family but I do not want to harm Sadie. Sadie personality is sweet and loving and he is trying very hard to share is love between Jay. I do not want to damage Sadie by bringing in another cat or bringing in two kittens…I just do not know. Lastly and maybe I am putting too much into this assuming we get a cat and after a month it does not work and we return the cat what are the long term effects on Sadie? In all of my reading I have not found an answer on this. If this failed experiment does not work I do not want any harm to come to Sadie. After all this is what I want and Sadie did not ask for a companion.

We are so torn on not knowing what the effects on Sadie will be by bringing in another cat.

Chatting to Birds????

I love this noise that Kelso makes when he sees birds it kinda sounds like "aa-aa-aa" reall fast like in the word hat. Since there is no single set of universally aplicable laws and regulations, it is best to do some basic research and reading before you are in a crunch situation, and then review specific points that relate to the thing you need to change.

Many states today have anti-cruelty language in their state law. Some states have made animal abuse a felony crime, rather than a misdemeanor. You should find the state's court website and the criminal code for the state and bookmark it. If your state doesn't yet have its code on the internet, you may be able to find it on one of the legal databases that are available for public use (Michie-Lesis, and others). You might want to find the sections relating to animals and either make note of which they are, or print them out, or save some parts of them on your computer.

You can enlist help from lawyers or law students in making sense of the legal language by the way! But you may find you can read the language and make good sense of it by yourself, too.

So now you know what your state law says. Next, be sure you know what local laws and ordinances apply to a situation. If it is a situation in a city, see what the municipal codes say about animals. If it is in a county or parish, look also at those laws or ordinances. Do not rely on what your friend said, what your neighbor thinks the law is, and definitely do not trust your Animal Control on what the law says or means. Animal Control is not a legal advisor!

Think about what or who could affect a change in the issue you are facing. Can a judge decide it, is there a committee or board involved, or some group of people who could just change their minds? Who you are trying to influence will help you decide how to approach them and what kind of information to present.

Always be polite, calm and reasonable. This is easier when you know your facts! Make appointments. Come prepared to the appointment. Be on time.

Advocacy can range from talking one-on-one with a volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary, to testify at public hearings or appearing on an interview show. Anyone you talk to is a prospective ally.

A terrific resource is the Midwest Academy

http://www.midwestacademy.com

which offers training courses as well as manuals on activism and campaigns.

The Citizen's Handbook http://www.vcn.bc.ca/citizens-handbook/

is another good overview of what organizing involves and some how-tos and case studies to inspire you.

Working for a nonprofit organization is often also good experience even when it is not a cat organization - many community organizations are interested in advocacy and activism around a particular cause.

Check out http://www.lincproject.org for philosophy and big-picture thinking about organizing.

It can help to put together "talking points" for people to use when they meet with others about your issue. This helps all of you to convey the same basic facts and can help you see what the concerns are that usually are given - modify or add to the talking points as your campaign progresses.

Keep records of what you try to do, what materials you use, and what the outcomes are.

Figure out a way to collect contact information for your group. Sometimes an advocacy campaign brings friends out of the shrubbery and you may want to work together on other issues later on.

Finally, check out Legal_TNR on Yahoo!Groups. It is meant for sharing just this sort of resources and ideas, as well as fo helping its members get a sesnse of what the world looks like today for activism about feral cat issues.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/feral_cats

DO NOT SELL CATS HERE! - Animal Network Admin

This is completely unacceptable. I am moving from Reno to Western Massachusetts this summer. When I mi=oved here, my cat did the drive with me. She was drugged the whole way, and we were both miserable. I am now ready to move back, and this time, I wqould rather ship her out, and I'll meet her there.

So, can anyone tell me how I do this? Do you know any reputable animal shipping companies? Do you know what the safest and most affordable option is?

I will appreciate any insight that you can offer. Little velcro strips hold the door to the frame, and could be used to keep a new cat separate from other household pets during the "getting-to-know-you" period. Just do a search for velcro screen doors. We have two cat trees in our kitchen in front of the window. The dogs just came in from outside and our pug (7 months old) was playing with a few of the cats. They chase each other, wrestle and cuddle. they also play ball. So Madge our pug was chasing Sophia (13 months) and sophia runs up the cat tree, her way of teasing Madge. So wasn't Sophia and the other cats that were in the tree surprised when Madge climbed up the tree behind her. So there we see madge and Sophia sitting there at the top of the tree. We laughed so hard, you should have seen the looks on their faces.
