But for those who have the same problem, here's what I know.

First, call the cat's name, bring the food outside, in case the cat dares to come back to the porch. (See, if the cat has never been outside before, outside can be really scary) If your cat has never been out, most likely, the cat will enjoy outside a minute, realize that he/she is in an unsafe environment, and run to the nearest hiding place. If the cat doesn't respond to your calling, the poor thing is too scared to come out from it's hiding place. And also, cats don't know what the outside of their home looks like. Assume that in their point of view, they're in the middle of the Amazon without a compass or map.

Now, cats have excellent smell (I believe) and they recognize sent so clearly that they know their owner's sent by heart.

Here's something you can try: Get on a shirt that you don't care about (And can be shredded) and excersise in it. Or at least wear it a while. (To get your sent in it)The cut it up and place the shreds of shirt around the house. Kitty will recognize the smell sooner or later.

Also, look EVERYWHERE. Does your neighbor have a porch? The cat may be hiding under there. And quadruple check that there's no furball hiding under there. When I lost my cat, she hid under the porch of the neighbor's. I thought I got a clean look the first time, so my family and I went on searching. Little did we know, our baby hid in the back so far that I didn't notice her. The second time we checked under there, I saw the slightest wave of fur. I stopped for a second, just to make sure that she wasn't there.

I had spoken softly, if she was there. I called her name in a high pitch voice, because I usually talk to my cats like that. (Speak like you normally do to the cat, if you have found them.)

If you have found your cat, but he/she is unreachable, then get out their favorite food. Speaking softy and letting the smell of the food drift to the cat, your Kitty will most likely come close to you. When they are in a good grip's reach, snatch 'em up as fast as you can, make sure they are in your arms pretty well, AND DO NOT LET GO. Hold on tight, but do not choke the cat.

Hopefully this was good info, and I hope those who lost their cats find them.

RE: LOST CAT

You might want to upload a picture and description to Petfinder.com, there are lots of lost pets up there. Poor thing must have been so scared outside during a storm! How many days was she missing? My cat almost got outside today too. Turns out she's learned how to open my sliding screen door all by herself. So now I know to keep a close eye on her when I have the door open. It's scary to think of what could happen if your kitty gets lost. Glad that yours is safe and sound.

RE: LOST CAT

Judy update: Ms Judy has been really catching up on her sleep! Bless her heart. The other two, Stosh and Lilly, were so happy to see her. While not related to Judy, they've sort of given her the esteemed position of Cat Mommie. Your enthusiasm touches my heart. I sure have learned a lesson or two or three! Double check all doors when visitor come over, be sure all cats have tags or some form of identification, and always count on your cat loving friends to rally around you in times of need!

Happy Easter/ Happy Spring! Maybe you could also put an ad in the newspaper too. Whenever I read the newspaper, I always check in the classifieds to see if there are any lost pets out there. You never know if you will run into them. I bet your kitty will come back home. I hope you find your kitty! I couldn't bare to loose my kitty, I would die. I really hope you find her though, and I would also be careful with the trap and tuna if you do it, my neighbor did that trying to catch a raccoon that was eating and pooping all on his deck and he caught our big fatty Maurice once, and then he caught a skunk. Not so fun to deal with. My heart goes out to you. Great tips and advice. Still no Judy, but I have made a poster and will put it up within the area. Trap with tuna...hmmm...interesting. Thank you so very much for you prayers too. Its funny I have a feeling that she is safe, maybe in a neighbors house. Our old house is 32 miles from here. wow, I hope she didn't try walking there. Also, and I don't know how far away is your previous home, but kitty might have tried to go back to the old house. It may help to post notices around the old neighborhood.

When she comes back, would you consider a collar, a tag and microchipping?

My heart goes out to you.

RE: LOST CAT

Hi Helen, I'm sorry to hear about your cat I agree with putting flyers around and cat traps. Try renting a humane cat trap and baiting it with tuna or sardines, something really fishy smelling. I bet she is hanging around close by, just afraid to come out. I know this has worked for a couple of people who's indoor kitty escaped. Check area shelters also. I recently moved to a new house in October and I'm afraid that Judy became disoriented by the storm and can't find her way home. I have combed the neighborhood and asked people who were out walking if they had seen her. I have called and called for her. She is an eldery cat (12 years old) but in good health. She has been an indoor cat for all of her life, with an occasional trip to the backyard for grass under my supervision. The thing I feel so terrible about is that I didnt have a collar or tag on her. I have left the back screen door wide open which leads to a screened in patio room, her favorite lounging area.

Please help!
