I'm just discovering Catchannel ,I've been reading Cat Fancy for years but haven't been here. I have had cats for almost 40 years , no thats not right cats have had me for almost 40 yrs. I think my favorite breed is the Manx , 4 live with me and they are something else ! Kid is the oldest 8 1/2 and thinks he's boss , Mossy is slightly overweight about 18 lbs and thinks all the food is hers , Then theres the twins Bob and Daisy . Bob is a mamas boy that thinks hes the only child ! Daisy is special she has a regular length tail and shes a flower child. And then theres Sam-Sam not a Manx and picked on by everyone so I give her special attention . I love all my cats and they are my children so they are spoiled beyond rotten . Thanks for reading this and I would like to hear from Manx people

My 1st cat and all the others

My 1st cat, Konan (named after Konan the Barbarian, don't ask me why, I don't know!), died last year on July 26. He was the best cat anyone could ever have. He was already around 5 years old when I came to America (yes, I'm from Europe!). He came to greet me, while the only other cat, Kramer (named after Kramer on Sienfield, he must have been crazy when he was a kitten), ran away. I got very attached to him, and since then, my favorite animal has been a cat. When he died, it was almost as if I had lost a part of me. And it turns out, I really did. 3 years before he died, we moved to another (bigger) house and brought home another cat (from the Humane Society of Utah, see my article about that in Rules/ Announcements/ Feedback), Gia (since then, we renamed her Nika). At 1st, he was really angry, but then he got over it. Then, one night (July 26, 2007), he started to feel sick. My parents took him to the vet (sadly I couldn't go with them because I was in the shower), and as it turns out, on the drive there, his mouth started to bubble up. When my parents got to the vet, they found out Konan had cancer. They did all they could to save him, but that wasn't enough. He had a heart attack in his last minutes of life. So they finally put him 'down.' What used to be a healthy, 20 pound cat, was now a sick, 7 pound cat. Well, the 2 cats had trouble with the fact that Konan would never come home, they looked for him all over the house, but (of course), never found him. A few months later, on January 21, 2008, we adopted a kitten. It was the exact same breed as Konan was (Seal Point Ragdoll), and we called him Murphy. Now that we have him, my 'Konan piece' has 1/3 filled up, but it will never fill up the other 2/3. Murphy is now still living with us, he is now 9 months old, while Nika is 7 years old, and Kramer is 8 years old. Konan the (Non) Barbarian is no more. But he will never be forgotten. EVER!!! He was a special cat, and he lives in the memories of my mom's, dad's, my grandma's (2) and grandpa's (1). He will ALWAYS (!!!!) be remembered. We love(d) him, and he loves us. The reason why I say loveS, is because he is watching over us right now. He will always watch over us. ALWAYS. Cause that's the kind of cat that he is and always will be. We love you Konan! Well Ill tell you about me and my cats...I have always been a cat person, I can't think of a time when I was growing up that I did not have a cat! I bought a house about a year ago so I decided to decorate it with cats! My first cat I Hank, I got her from a farm. I wanted a boy cat because I like the name Hank, but she was so cute so I just named her Hank anyway! Then I got Frankie for Hank to play with, Frankie was from an animal shelter. They became best friends! Then I was looking on Petfinder.com and saw a adorable cat I had to have, so I got him and named him Elvis. All three of my cats get along great, I love it!

My New Burmese Kitten

After my beloved Norwegian Forest Cat Cosmo died I decided not to get another NFC for a variety of reasons. I wanted to get something completely different. After months of research I decided on a Burmese. At the cattery there were two available, a male and a female. The female was the clear winner. She had good eye contact, licked my fingers, and she didn't squirm when I held her. The male had none of these qualities. She fits the breed profile well, but what surprised me is her very docile nature. She seems to actually enjoy claw trimming licking my fingers while I'm doing it. The vet was amazed how easy she was to handle.

I named her Angel because she is one! She keeps me entertained with her acrobatic stunts, things I've never seen a cat do. She even chases my 22 pound Ragdoll around. It's hilarious! She also plays fetch.

Needless to say I have something very special. A wild yet docile cat. I didn't think that combination was possible.

Hi everyone

I am new here and am looking to make friends . I have 2 of the most wonderful, precious, loving, spoiled cats in the world. Miss Kitty is 12 yrs old, sweet and very loving. Although she is old she is very active and is in good health. Phoebe is 7 yrs old, mischief as she can be but a sweet sweet loving cat. Both cats get along great, Phoebe keeps Miss Kitty on her toes and they are a hoot to watch play .They are both indoor cats and I spoil them as much as I can. They give me so much joy and are such a comfort that they both deserve the best I can give them.

Hi! I'm new to this site--well, I have had a CatChannel profile for awhile, but I am new to this forum.

I have three cats.

Bobo--my first and oldest cat. Born on September 5th, 2003 from a breeder. He is a Chocolate Point Siamese and four years old. I love him SO much!

Simon--my second and youngest cat. Born on July 1st, 2004 from the same above-mentioned breeder. He is a Seal Point Siamese and is also four years old. He was the runt of the litter and small but I still love him!!

Peaches--my last and second oldest cat. Born on February 10th, 2004, he was soon given to the local shelter because his dad was going to war. We adopted him. He's orange and white--not sure the breed, and he's HUUUUGE! He's my biggest cat. I love him, too, but he plays a little rough with my other kitties

About me....

I am a girl and have three cats, 1 dog (Mollie) and five fish (Jacob, Blackey, Whitey, Blackey JR., Whitey JR.)
I live in California and I love to go to the beach and body surf, I like to go to the pool and swim, and I love to play volley-ball. My life revolves around my pets. I'm tall, blonde, have freckles and blue-green-gray eyes.

My First Kitten

About a week ago the door bell rang at around 10:30 at night. I go to answer it and there is a box sitting on the front porch with loud MEOWS coming from it. I was in complete shock! I couldn't believe someone dropped a kitten off at my front door. I never had a cat before and I have three dogs, so I was thinking that there was no way I could keep her. I was planning on giving her to one of my friends or putting an add in the paper the next day. So overnight I played with her, andshe cuddled with me and slept on my head and I fell absolutely in love with her. So the next day instead of giving her away, I went to the pet shop and spent about $200! Now we're a big happy family! I'm very glad I kept her, and I think she's turned me into a huge cat lover!

Hello everyone,

I am a new kitten owner. I named her Libby. I rescued Libby from a bad situation and saved her life. I was in talking with a friend about wanting a cat and she told me that there were all kinds of them in this mans yard. So I went to ask him if I could have a kitten and he told me to take them all. He was a very nasty old man. I asked him where they were expecting him to let me in the house to take a look, when he told me they were in the back yard. Shocked, I walked around the other side of his house and there were 14 cats and kittens. Very sick. All needed medical attention, very skinny, no water or food outside for them, so I told him that they needed medical attention. He didn't seem to care too much. So a friend of mine grabbed one, and I took one, and immediately took them to the vet as a walk- in... Luckily the vet was able to see us both, and called the police about the condition of the two cats. I told her there was a yard full still that needed medical attention. Sadly, the kitten that a friend of mine picked died in her arms, and my kitten barely survived. She had all kinds of problems, and I have only had her 13 days, and she has been on two rounds of antibiotics and still taking some meds, and is doing great. She is gaining weight, and very playful and happy to have a home. She is a very loving kitten. I am happy to have her as a member of our family.

Amputee Kitties

I have four kitties...Nikkie-3 yrs old, Shadow-1 yr old, Pumpkin-1 yr old, and Lucky-8 wks old. Just two days ago, my Pumpkin became an amputee. She is barely 1 year old and have battled a broken leg that required surgery to put a metal pin in for 6 weeks and just two days ago, her leg had gangrene set in because the nerves never regenerated and she rubbed a sore on her foot (back left). She is doing great and hasn't had to have any pain meds and yesterday she wandered into the living room with the rest of the cats....she had been hiding in my daughter's closet all this time. I love all my kitties the same and am new to this amputee parent thing and would like to hear from others who have inspiring stories to share. Pumpkin is now my hero and my inspiration. She is showing me that no matter how bad things can get, you can always overcome them. She's the most beautiful calico I have ever seen and everyone who has meet her has fallen in love with her personality.

I joined a few days ago when I was in need of advice for a UTI that wouldnt go away. I wanted to formerly introduce myself. I am Donna from east coast NC. My kitty Cola came to me in Dec. 3 1/2 years ago. Someone found him and his two sisters in a ditch about 40 miles from my home. He was a truck driver and brought them home to his wife. She brought them to work and I got one and she kept the other two. Cola is normerly a very happy kitty. Thanks for all that shared advice when I needed it.

herer is some info about my cats,

I have three cats there names are Ted, Toots, and fred but my family calls him pee face because he keeps peeing on my new carpet.

Toots: she is a pure bred siamese dum butt tha is cross eyed

Ted: we found him as a stray cat in a corn feild, he is the sweetest cat you will ever meet in your life.

Fred: he is the most fat and stupid cat that you will ever meet and he has to much skin, he is a pee faced cat, it is a nick name that my sister made up for him .

I have three cats. Their names are Izzy (my oldest), Tiger, and Lucky (they are brothers). I got Izzy at Critz Farms, she was free because no one wanted to take her and she wasn't exactly a kitten at the time. She was a teenager if you will. My two younger cats are almost a year. I found them on my boat last summer and they were only about four days old. I bottle fed them for the longest time. They were just so adorable. They couldn't even go to the bathroom on their own. I had many great times with them and I think they enjoy living in my house. Izzy doesn't mind them that much, but still makes a fuss when she finds one of her new brothers on her usual sleeping spot. All in all I have very sweet cats and I wish everyone the best of luck on all of your kitty adventures.

I would like to present my cats:

The grey tabby one is Byakko. He will be one year old in some days. I'm not sure when he was born, but someone took him in a park and gave him to me and he was about two months old. So he probably was born on august. In the begining he was terrified, but now he a very happy cat. He is male.

The black and white one is Suzaku. She is female. Officially she is 4 and a half year old. A woman phone a charity and told them she had been feeding a cat for 4 years in her garden. That woman told she had been abandoned, and they decided to take her. I adopted her on january.

They are very good friends and play a lot. Suzaku use to lick Byakko and he likes it a lot

We are two litter mates who are being fostered by our soon to adoptive mother. Our mother was allowed to bring me home, before the Big N (Neuter) happens, because I'm the runt in the litter and am quite smaller than my sisters. I'm "gulp" being fattened up, before being fixed. My sister Cider was also brought home. Grandma wanted another kitten. Cider does'nt need fattening up, but she's a bit shy, so she was allowed to come home with mother to be socialized. I'm starting to fatten up and Cider is coming out of her shell. But mother does wish that we'd behave a bit better at night, so she can sleep. She also wishes that we don't use her face as a diving board .

Stitches after spaying

Hi All,

I have two cats, Becky and Olivia (sisters from the same Litter) that are about one-year-old. I adopted them at 6 weeks old and had them spayed at the same time when they were 5 months old. Becky's stitches were absorbed but Olivia's were on the outside. 8 months later, Olivia still has a few stitches remaining. They do not seem to bother her; she ignores them.

I will be bringing both cats to the vet for annual checkup this summer. Do you think it is a big procedure to have the stitches from Olivia removed so many months after they were sewn in? Or will it be simple and painless for her? Or even maybe, should they remain in and loosen on their own ?(like I think one or two of the stitches did already months ago)

I adore both cats and want the best for them. Any advice? Thanks!

Exotic cats

Browsing the internet today for leash training (for any new pointers) and stumbled upon this forum. I decided to join and share my love of cats, exotic cats that is. I currently own an F4 Bengal and am awaiting delivery of an F3 Savannah. For those not familiar with the F it means generations from the full blood line of the wild animal. An F4 would be 4 generations from the full blood line of the wild cat or 6.25% wild blood. An F3 would be 3 generations or 12.5% wild blood.

The Bengal breed is a hybrid of the Asian Leoppard Cat and a domestic cat. Highly intelligent, very curious, lover of water, and a personality that exceeds a dog are ways to describe the Bengal. The most striking thing about the Bengal is it's coat - spotted like the Asian Leoppard cat with lots of shine and 'glitter'. Some even have rosetting (faded out centers) in their patterns. the very interesting thing I have noticed about mine is that she changes colors based on the seasons. During Spring and Summer she is light colored as in the previous pictures but when it turns to Fall and Winter she gets a very dark rust undercoat and the white of her entire underside turns to a dark rust color. A gorgeous animal to say the least.

Typical price ranges for Bengals are between $1000-2000. If you find one for less I would question the breeding. You get what you pay for in these animals. Always ask to see the 'paper' trail of it's lineage.

The Bengal was my first step into exotic cats. I received her when she was 8 weeks old and have raised her ever since. She is leash trained and loves to go outdoors for walks. At 10 years of age she is declawed on all four feet and spayed.

Since I had such an enjoyable experience and love my Bengal to death I decided to look into other exotic cats. Searching the web and reading book after book about exotic cats led me to a breed called the Savannah. The Savannah is a hybrid of the African Serval and Bengal cat. Searching for Savannah breeders in my state I found a local breeder about 2.5 hours from my house. I contacted them and setup an appointment to inspect the facility and their cats. From this I laid down a deposit on an F3 female. The pictures below are of her at 4 weeks of age:

Her name will be Theia (which means Goddess). I'm awaiting the phone call from the breeder saying she is ready to take home!

Price ranges on Savannahs are between $1,500 to $12,000 (F6 to F1). The lower the F number the higher the cost.

The very interesting thing about mine is the rosetting showing already at 4 weeks of age!! I have a feeling that she is going to put my Bengal to shame very easily. Theia will grow to be 16-18 pounds, stand about 18-20" at the shoulder, and be 20-22" long from rump to chest (nice size kitty!). I would love to have an F1 or F2 but the price was just too much at the moment. The F1 and F2 are growing anywhere from 19-24 lbs, standing 19-22" at the shoulder, and anywhere from 22-25" long from rump to chest (much bigger kitty!). In contrast to my Bengal, Kriti is about 14" from rump to chest, stands about 13" at the shoulder, and weighs in at 9.5 lbs! This is going to be interesting.

Thought I would share my love of exotic cats with everyone. I'll update with pictures of Theia when I take possession of her and as she matures. I have full plans of leash training her also from an early age. She will definitely attract attention when she goes for walks!

I joined CatChannel months ago, but then forgot to come back and participate! I hope to have time to do that in the future. I have a black kitty who is 3 years old, his name is Puddy Tat, aka Damien. It is a long story how we acquired him, but to make it short, he picked us for his owners. He lived across the street and was on our porch constantly, he managed to get in the house accidently a few times and immediately thought he lived here. Well, now he does, and we love him! We changed his name as Damien reminds me of that horror movie "The Omen", I think was the name of it.

I got Dimage at the end of April. I've been dying for the perfect black and white kitty for several years, and he was it. My mom knew the person I got him from and decided she wanted one and she got Gypsy. Her chihuahua was too rough with her though, so she came to me. THEN, my fiance's mom died at the end of June and she wanted us to have Lily, so now we do! I also have a 6 week old puppy... I only planned on 1 cat and 1 puppy! XD But everyone is getting along well.

Wow, this site has great, educational information!

Currently, we live in Las Vegas, soon to move to a city (haven't decided yet) outside of Rochester, NY (husband being transferred). We have 3 adult cats (2 females/1 male), and 2 dogs (1 male/1 female), all adopted/rescued.

I also foster kittens for a group in Vegas called Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions, which is relatively new (1 1/2 years). It is without a doubt the best "job" I could imagine having. I quit my full-time career as a pension plan administrator, to work part-time at home just to foster, it was that important to me. Thank goodness for my husband, who in the beginning was against this whole idea. Now he LOVES all of the fosters that have come and gone on to be adopted (and there is always one female from the group who attaches herself to him, how could he resist)!

My last group of fosters (4) were dumped at a construction site on January 2, at 2 days old. Never before had I bottle-fed, nor had I any experience with newborns, but these babies needed us, so my husband and I spent HOURS researching, cleaning, feeding, going to and from the vet, and all 4 kittens survived, and were subsequently adopted (2 to one home/2 to another). I miss them!

Las Vegas isn't terribly animal friendly, as far as their laws go. We don't have low cost spay/neuter clinics here, which, given the amount of revenue gambling generates, is unacceptable. Our city run shelter (Lied) is HORRIBLE, and seems to be under constant scrutiny (you may recall the outbreak of disease last year, after an HSUS inspection, where most of the animals had to be killed).

And now it's kitten season. As someone said, it's like shoveling snow in a blizzard. For every one you find a home for, there are 5 more without homes.

On the flip side, there are so many lovely people here, who I meet at our adoption events, and who gush over these animals.

It's going to kill me to leave my rescue group when we move, but I already have adoption applications lined up to turn in in New York.

Hello. My name is Christian and I live in Kansas City with my husband of three years and our two cats, Seraphina and Merlina. Seraphina is a tabby/calico mix and Merlina is a black cat. They are lovely cats, about 2 years old and Seraphina is quite the conversationalist. Seraphina kneads on me quite a lot; I assume that she does it because she likes me or is happy.
