i'm going about this backward...i have already posted things on this site without introducing myself and BELLA. Everyone knows alittle bit about her and what she has been going through lately. I decided to turn to all of you at this time, because no one else really understands my compassion for cats. They will never know to what extent cats have saved my life. i am a single woman, my human family is all gone now and it just me and BELLA. I have a pretty good job and friends, but given the choice I would rather spend my free time with BELLA ;even though that time is usually spent listening to her snore. it's the greatest sound, next to purring. So here we are. very grateful for this forum and for all of you who are also crazy for cats

As spring approaches, lilies will become more common in households as potted plants or in bouquets. According to Michigan State University Extension’s Grower Guide, Easter lilies are the third most important flowering pot-plant grown in the United States, with l0 to 11 million plants produced annually. Unfortunately, several types of lilies can be deadly to cats. Easter lily, tiger lily, rubrum, Japanese show lily, some species of day lily, and certain other members of the Liliaceae family can cause kidney failure in cats.

Within only a few hours of ingestion of the plant material, the cat may vomit, become lethargic, or develop a lack of appetite. These signs continue and worsen as kidney damage progresses. Without prompt and proper treatment by a veterinarian, the cat will develop kidney failure in approximately 36-72 hours.

All parts of these lilies are considered toxic to cats and consuming even small amounts can cause severe poisoning. If there is a lily in your home, there is always the chance that your cat could be accidentally exposed. For this reason, cat owners should avoid exposing their cats to plants of the Liliaceae and Hemerocallis family.

my terminally ill cat is going to vet for the last time tomorrow

im taking my precious Bella to the vet tomorrow to be euthanized, she has cancer and I want her out of this pain. I can't stop crying. I have had cats my whole life and so few people understand my love and devotion to these creatures. what do I do? How do I get through this? I have had cats pass before this, but Bella came into my life at a bad time and helped me through. I feel like I am now letting her down. Any advice would help me...

Hello,

I am anxious to become a member of this community and look forward to getting to know some of you.

I recently lost my long time best feline friend Timmie & he has gone on to kitty heaven.

Timmie shared the better part of 20 years with me as my children grew up & eventually left home to start their own lives he became more and more of an emotional partner for me.

Sissy joined us about 6 years ago as an 8 week old abandoned or lost kitten. Very thin, flea ridden & near death. The only reason I was able to catch her is because she was too weak to run anymore. She had positioned herself behind the kitty litter in my garage & I discovered her there after a walk.

I took her to the vet & of course got her fed & cleaned up. She is very sweet and social with me, but is terrified if anyone else comes into the house. She will go hide under the bedcovers until they are gone.

I got the bright idea 2 weeks ago to get another tabby cat, thinking I would enjoy a lap cat, and it would be someone to keep Sissy company while I am at work during the day.

That's what I get for thinking.

New kitty, who's tentative name is pouncer, is 1 year 3 months old, full of life, energy & curiosity.

Here is my conundrum.

Conflicting information about how to integrate these two cats.

The information I was getting on the web said oh, keep them separate, switch their bedding & let them get the smell of the other cat, feed them on opposite sides of the door, do not under any circumstances let them get into a fight.

At the end of 3 days, they had an accidental meeting in the living room after pouncer escaped the spare room. It resulted in much growling, hissing & eventually a big furball in the living room. Sissy ran to the bedroom, followed by pouncer. I'm not sure if Sissy peed on the bed before or after the curtains were pulled down. They both ended up under the bed & I was eventually able to pull Sissy out & stuff her under the covers & shove pouncer out of the room.

Now it's almost 2 weeks later & they have been kept isolated from one another, taking turns with who has the run of the house.

Today, 2 veterinary techs said oh, just let them work it out. It may sound awful for a week, but they will determine the hierarchy themselves.

That seems very disloyal to me, especially to Sissy, since she has only been around 1 other cat in the last 6 years & it was one she had known since she was a kitten.

How do I integrate these two humanely?

Help.

I love them both & have visions of them curled up napping together & bathing each other.

This is my soul mate, Lucky. He's about six years old and was adopted from a woman that was moving back to England. She rescued him from a bucket filled with water; I'm so glad she saved him. He's the only cat I own right now, but once we move into our new house, I'm planning to rescue other cats from shelters, that are going to be euthanized. Hi, new to this forum, got here thru facebook and then cat channel. We have 4 cats, all rescues. They are mostly indoor, but go outdoors in our cat proof fenced yard. We built the fence ourselves and so far it has worked. My daughter and I volunteer for our local humane society and I am involved with a feral cat rescue organization. Two New Kittens

I haven't been on in couple years. My old cat Pinkie passed away 2 years ago this coming February. I had not been ready for a new kitten for until recently. My roommate had talk about it for a year we even pick out names but I was not ready then this past summer I had become attached to my best friend's cat when I went to visit her. My roommate and I started consider it more. What put me over the edge was I had a dream about my old cat Pinkie and she helped me pick out my new fur baby. That was it I wanted a kitten. My roommate wanted kitten too. My roommate has 4 year old son and got excited about the kittens. I have dog I share with my mom and my roommate's son Brenden said to us that we have to make sure the kittens like our dog Ladybug. LOL Smart kid.
So last weekend we ended up getting two cute kittens from family that was giving them away to good home. After we had gone to shelter and the decline us after approving us because of my roommate's son was impatient waiting after 45 mins.
Anyway we got two female kittens 7weeks old. We named them Tiki and Bella. Tiki is my kitten and Bella is my roommate kitten but we love both the same. Brenden is good with them. We have to explain to him when the kittens are sleeping he can't play with them. Our dog Ladybug is acting like mommy to the kittens giving them baths. It take them long to like each other. Tiki took to her right away after few hisses. Bella took a day to take to her but now they are all happy. Ladybug runs arounding keeping track of the kittens for us.

Showing Off my Babies

I love to show off my kitties so when I found this site I had to join so I could show other cat lovers my babies.

Ebony is two and came to me as a baby after a co-worker rescued him. She described how she found him in the middle of the road and had to close her eyes because there was a truck coming. Luckily he didn't get hit. She brought in pictures and after seeing the one below I knew I had to take him home. (My co-worker already had 2 cats and her husband was saying no more.)

Those first couple of months were not easy for him. He had a virus - the medication took care of that. But the virus had caused him to prolapse, so he had to go in and get stitched on his backend. This caused constipation, so he went back the next day and got a couple of enemas. And he finally had to go back and get the stitch. All of this in addition to the normal shots and getting neutered. I am happy to say that he came through as a very happy and healthy kitty. He is jumpy, but who can blame him. Best of all he never tries to go outside, so I don't worry about him getting hurt.

Here he is with his favorite toy.

Minx's story is shorter. I got her at PetSmart as a healthy 1 yr old (This makes her about 6 months younger than Ebony.) All her information said was that her family had to give her up because of the economy.

I was not planning on a second cat, but I saw her and her eyes spoke to me. They said you can't leave me here. So I took her home with no idea how she would get along with Ebony. Neither had been around other cats. The research I did told me that it could take a couple of months before they accepted each other. Fortunately for me they did it in about 5 days. Now it is hard to guess that they have not always been together.

Sorry for the length, but I am a proud mama.

the girls are older, two of them. and both are fixed. All are indoor cats
so far the little one is rambunctious but nothing more. Do I have to get him fixed? Will he start giving the girls a hard time? They are older and very mixed up with the new addition. but it's not unmanageable. Want to protect the girls. Ted is very aggressive with the middle girl. She holds her own but sometimes I think it's best to separate them.

I am a first time cat owner and I am happy to say that I am a cat person for sure. We have had Puff for about 5 months and he has been a great addition to the family. I joined this site b/c there are definitely some questions and things I just don't know about cats. So, hopefully other cat people can help me out. I took him to get neutered and declawed about 2 weeks ago and that has calmed him down tremendously. I have about 3 issues/questions hopefully you can help me answer.

1. Puff is tearing the weather stripping from the bottom of my door...HELP!

2. Why does he like to splash all the water out of his dish and create a huge mess?

3. Opinions on teaching cat to use the toilet, saw the kit on-line and wonderedif it works.

I am new to this community but find it very interesting. So thought I would check it out.

I have three cats: Sidney (9), Snickers (4), and Skittles (10 weeks) all males. I just adopted Skittles three weeks ago and find it very interesting having a "baby" again.

I do have a question: My older cats don't have any claws, but the kitten does. Skittles (the kitten) loves Sidney but appears to be using her claws on him. His poor nose is tore up pretty badly. Doesn't a kitten need to be older than four months to get declawed or can it be done earlier? Sidney is so passive that he doesn't do anything to the kitten to get him to stop using his claws on him. Any hints?

Me, King, and some questions

I have a 3.5 year old pure ragdoll named King. King has a disturbing habit. He likes to chew on socks. I have hidden them but he will find something like a sock if he can't get socks. He chews them in his bowl most of the time. He does eat parts because he has puked them up once or twice. Obviously this isn't normal but why is he doing this and how can I get him to stop?

Hello everyone! I am new here to this site and somewhat new to cat owning. My boyfriend and I have two cats. Both spayed females named Reina and Artemis.
Reina is a DSH gray tabby and Artemis is a Oriental/DSH. She is also tabby but of a lighter shade.

Anyways my question(s) are in regards to aggression. I have had Reina since she was 8 weeks old and she is now a little over 2 years old. We adopted Artemis from the shelter when she was 4 months and she is about 11 months now.
It took awhile before they got used to each other, but they can tolerate living in the same house. They play a lot, but when Reina doesn't want to play she hisses and smacks Artemis. It goes on a little while til Artemis learns to leave her be.
Reina always follows me around the house and even sleeps in the same bed with us. Her and Artemis take turns lol. If Artemis comes near me and my boyfriend while laying in bed, Reina growls and hisses at her.
Anyways, when I try to play with Reina, she doesn't want to play and sometimes when I try to pet her, she swipes at me. I am not able to comb her hair or clip her nails like I used to. She kind of avoids us unless we have food.
We don't bug her and when she comes around we might try to pet her, but she usually runs off or swipes.

Is this aggression or something else?

40 Hours between births

My Cabbit had four kittens on Friday night. The first at 6pm the last before 11pm. On Sunday morning before 8am she had another one. This seems like a long time to me. Is this normal? Mom and babies all doing well. All babies are the same size and strong and there doesnt seem to be a runt in the bunch. In fact the last baby seems to be the strongest of the bunch. Also Im wondering if more can come now or is she done. Thanks for any feedback you can provide. Mom is healthy is up to date on shots and vet visits.

Not New Exactly, Just MIA For A While

I don't know if any of you remember me but I was on here a while ago. I had two cats, a calico named Flukie and a black and white shorthair named Imzadi. And my name is Ami. Well, I've posted a few pictures and wrote about a few funny habits they had in the past along with their individual pet pages things.

Well, I couldn't bear to come back to this site for a long time because it just made me so very sad. It still makes me sad, but not as much as at first. I lost Imzadi to complications of cancer, kidney failure and heart trouble. Her hind legs stopped working as well and when she stopped eating and drinking and could only drag herself from her pillow to the litterbox via her front claws my boyfriend and I decided that the time had come to say goodbye. I said my goodbyes the night before and asked my boyfriend to please take her to the vet while I was at my appointments for the day. I couldn't bear to watch him leave her and I also couldn't bear to be there when they released her spirit.

Since then, her daughter, Flukie, has become far more attached to me than usual and is never far from my side. The night before Shawn took Imzadi in I slept on the downstairs sofa and Flukie, who had never, ever done this before, curled up against my stomach while I laid in a fetal position in tears on the sofa. When the sofa became too soft and uncomfortable for I slipped to the floor and Flukie followed me and curled up the same position as she'd been on the sofa with me. That was extremely unheard of for her. She normally hates being on the floor, much less sleeping there.

I had Imzadi created in a private creation and her ashes rest on the top shelf of the livingroom bookcase surrounded by the small collection of "Applause" stuffed cats I got in honor of them along with her little pink collar and bell. Her remains came sealed in a very pretty dark blue velvet drawstring pouch with the words "Until We Meet At The Rainbow Bridge" along the front in dark yellow cursive embroidery. It's all very tasteful.

I wear a small portion of her physical remains, which I believe hold some of her essence as well, within a silver and blue vial surrounded by a pewter image of a half-moon and cat about my neck at all times. I wear this on a silver chain with a silver cross and a silver, diamond brooch along with. Being a poor soul the diamonds, of course, aren't real, but the sentiment is.

The necklace I wear in Imzadi's honor has meaning to everything about it. It's not just a few random pieces of jewelry strewn together for aesthetic value. In case anyone is interested, here's what my cat's memorial necklace all means:

Silver-toned: Represent moonlight and mystery, both of which cats have been attributed throughout history.

The Cross: [i]Represents life after death, the afterlife, Heaven, Nirvana, The Rainbow Bridge, God and Jesus watching over her and a place of beauty and rest where we shall meet and be together someday.

The Circle: Represents eternity and harmony. Unending love, devotion and loyalty in honor of that same love, devotion and loyalty she gave me while she was still on the earthly plane with me.

The Diamonds: Diamonds, (even fake ones), represent every important and wonderful moment I spent with her. Treasured forever within my heart.

The Chain/Links: Represent every day, hour, moment I shall miss and think about her and what she meant to me and Flukie and my boyfriend, Shawn and everyone in our family who knew Imzadi. The links alone represent individual prayers for her spirit's well-bing in the after-life, going on and on until the very end of time and beyond.

The Urn: Holds a small portion of Imzadi's physical remains in honor, love and memory of the beloved animal who graced my life, my world and my heart for thirteen beloved and wonderful years.

I shall miss her forever. She really did life up to her name. Imzadi means "beloved" and she was.

It's still hard to think about her, and the hole in my heart that's been left will always be there but the wound is slowly beginning to scab over.

hi! my boyfriend and i just got 2 little kitties (just being about a month ago). one of my cats is getting older and im nervous about her first heat session. eek. but anyways, the bigger one is named Fish (my boyfriend named her) she is absolutely beautiful. she is light gray with white paws and legs, and a white face. her belly looks like chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream too because she has very small brown markings. she is about 7 months. My other kitty is about 4 months and her name is pumpkin. She mostly sleeps all day. o_0

My name is Mark and I have ten cats. That's right - ten. We foster and try to find homes for cats as best we can. So far - only about five cats have left the house and found new homes. Millie and Bibbet - The New Girls on the Block

Hello all!

I'm new to this site and absolutely new to having cats as pets. Have always wanted a cat but my ex wouldn't allow it. Now that ex has been gone several years and my new guy loves cats - we decided to adopt. I was planning to wait but when we went to the Pet store adoption a few weeks ago - I knew that plan was gone!

The kittens there were being admired but I wanted 2 adult females cats that got along. The rescue ladies led us to a cage in the back that had a beautiful green eyed long hair tortoiseshell and a long haired black cat with sparkling gold eyes. I had never planned on getting a long haired cat but the minute we saw Millie the tortie - I couldn't walk away. Her friend, Samantha was a bit shy and hiding but it was the end of a long stressful day. The ladies told us the cats had both been in the shelter over 6 months (not a rescue home) & given up because one owner died and one left for the military. The adoption fee had been lowered to $50 since they wanted them to have a home. (not of importance to us at all though). When the lady told me that Samantha had little chance of adoption because so many people were leary of black cats - I said no way we are leaving her behind.

So off we go shopping while they filled out the papers - 20 mins later with a full cart ($100 for the cats, lol and $250 for the cat stuff!) we returned to bring them home. The rescue lady got choked up she was so happy they were going to a home to be "spoiled" that she took out her cell phone to snap a pic to show the shelter workers where the girls had lived. They are both about 2 and a half yrs old and about 10 - 12 lbs each.

Fast forward two weeks later - we have 2 great girls! We renamed Samantha to Bibbet (my guy had a black Bibbet growing up) and they now enjoy the run of the house. We are loving having our wonderful lap cats (Millie is sleeping in my lap now - Bibbit is in her favorite comfy arm chair) and we think they are liking it here! They are anxious for us to light the fire but it has not been cold enough yet. I am learning so much about the daily lives of cats and enjoying every minute of it.

My boys definitely have the rule of the castle!! Although they have different personalities, they are both sweet and affectionate. They follow me around the house constantly and like to be lap cats whenever possible. They are also very smart...my husband and I are working on teaching them some tricks. Although they are inside cats, we do take them for walks when the weather is nice. They are very good walkers and we have a lot of people make comments about our puppy cats!

I am also currently still in school for my degrees in education and management. I am a single mom of four cats! Cosmo is 3, and he is a black domestic shorthair. He's an indoor and outdoor cat. Jack and Sophie are twin brother and sisters, they are 7 months, grey and white half maine coon and domestic shorthair. Squirt is 4 months old and she is also a black domestic shorthair.

Hello From Wesley, Tiger and Bruce

Hi guys! I'm new to this. My name is Kay-Dee.I'm 21 and Married. I have three wonderful furry children.

Wesley is my oldest. He is three years old. He is a white, domestic short haired cat. I adopted him from Petsmart two years ago. He is my big baby. He sleeps in my arms all night. He is most def a moma's boys.

Next in line is Tiger. He is our spoiled rotten fluff. He is domestic long haired cat. He is one year old. He found us when he was just a little kitten. We raised him and Wesley took on to him like he was always there.

Finally our last addition is Bruce. He is a domestic yellow and white short haired cat. We call him Bruce aka "Batcat" because he had adnormally large ears for his size. We just got him about two weeks ago. He showed up at my mom's house. She couldn't keep him so we took him in. He is about six months and gets along great with our other children! ^_^ I love my happy family!

About four years ago, my then 8-yr.-old daughter and I went to the local animal shelter to look for a cat to adopt. Many cats huddled in the back corners or their cages with the most distrusting looks. Some even hissed at us. Then we came upon a calico, "Bernice", that had been found wandering the streets. When the cage door was opened, she crawled right out onto my daughter's shoulder and parked herself there. We still had many more to look at, so we continued down the rows of cages. There was only one other cat that even acted slightly interested in us. We went back to Bernice. Once again, she immediately came out of her cage and onto my daughter's shoulder. That was it. She had picked her new owner. My daughter renamed her "Fuzzy". Fuzzy was approximately one year old, with short hair, tortoise-shell, and a very sweet temperment. She also bonded almost immediately to our miniature dachshund. (And the tormenting began).

I'm Dave from New Jersey and I have a Calico cat named Mush. She was a ferel cat before she "found" me and has lived with me for about 10 years now. I grew up with dogs and really didn't have much of an appreciation for cats until becomming the owner of one and I am a convert!... although I like pretty much all animals. Well, thats about it for meow..I mean now. Nice to be part of Cat Channel.

Hi, my two cats came from the local humane shelter. The shelter was built next door to my place of employment about four years ago, the same time I bought my home. When I moved in I found mouse droppings and decided to forgo mouse traps for cats. I really didn't know what I was getting into!

Now four years later I don't think I could live without them. Heres some pics of Comet & Gizmo. Comet is white, Gizmo is tiger.

Hi. My name is Karen. I have a black & white tuxedo cat named Mitzi. I adopted her a little over a year ago at the local Humane Society. My sister paid for her, as a gift to me. She is the love of my life and my ONLY companion. She's my baby girl, in every sense of the word. She's approximately 2 years old. It took me 2 years, to get permission to have her. I had to get my doctor to say that I needed a therapeutic pet. I was denied the first time I tried. I was on disability, even then, but was still denied because my doctor didn't say " need ". But, I got through it, and wouldn't trade my baby for the world.
