What fun to hear that you have mastered Cat. So have I. I had a cat for more than 20 years, and she taught me well. She followed me all over the place and kept me up on all the stuff I needed to know.

Sometimes she had comments on my singing voice (about a three-syllable meow that sounded as though it had a hard "g" in the middle), other times she told me off for happening to glance at her while she was using the biffy. As the vet and I agreed, "She had an opinion on everything."

Before I got her (Molly) I had another cat for 18 years named Honeybee (because she was always "buzzing.") who told me off regularly.

Molly was a hard teacher, but I know she had my best interests at heart. I should be able to handle anything that comes down the pike in the form of a cat.

Hello - I love this site. I'd like to introduce myself and my cat. At present I am without a resident cat, but I recently lost the world's sweetest old girl, named Molly. She was halfway through her 21st year, and I got her when she was 8 weeks old. I miss her terribly. She was one of those grouchy little things at first, then with time she just got better and better. Not that she wasn't still a grouch, just a sweet, lovable one. We were best buds.

Nearly four months later, I have committed to another cat, a recent mother who will come home to me after she weans her six-pack of babies at the home of her foster mother. As luck would have it, her name is also Molly, though it is a name only recently given to her, so I may change it to something that doesn't bring tears to my eyes every time I say it.

Here's the interesting thing about her - her short-haired coat is light tan with a definite pinkish cast to it (she has white feet and little white lines coming down out of the inner corners of her eyes). The rescuers described her as being "mauve" on the adoption sheet, which means they saw a slight lavender influence where I saw more of a pinkish tint. Anybody out there know what kind of a cat could have contributed that shade of pinkish, lavender tan?

She's striking. And she gave me attitude the first day I met her. I love that in a cat.

I'm completely lost here - I don't know how to start with introducing myself and my cat. There doesn't seem to be a text block such as the one I'm using now. And there doesn't seem to be a way to just reach someone to ask for help. What to do?

I have had my own message boards, and so far so good with this one. I really do hope I get some thoughts and ideas with my new cat. My love of my life is 15 years old and she has some medical problems, but no more then I do, so us old ladies will stick it out together. But this new girl is testing me some what, and darnd I forgot to study for this test !

Any how.....I hope the board hangs on

To the question on user level. It appears to go by the number of times you visit/ post. I just wish Guru didn't come before Sr. member. Guru just sounds sooo much better!

I have a similar comment to Chy. Overall this is a great forum and I feel that I have made a lot of friends here, and I enjoy chatting with the folks here.

However - a couple of months or so ago, there was a post (as there sometimes will be) from a "troll" who was just trying to stir up trouble. This particular post referred to a person whose cat supposedly had been hit by a car and injured, but instead of taking the cat to a vet, the person indicated that he was trying to run the wheel of his car over the cat's head to "finish the job." Several of us, including myself, were taken in at first and reacted with predictably horrified disgust. Later, when I realized that the person was just trying to "pull our chain," I reported that post more than once and asked that the thread be deleted. Several people also replied to the thread asking that it be deleted - folks were continuing to respond as if it were a serious thread and were getting upset over it. I received no response whatsoever, and as far as I know the thread is still out there somewhere. Every now and then, especially when someone new joins the forum, the thread will resurface. More responsiveness when issues like this occur would be appreciated.

I'll reserve judgement, for now, because I'm new. The people here seem to be wonderful, but there's no one minding the store at the admin level, which is a real shame.

In the past week I've sent a private message and an email to the admin's and wasn't even given the common courtesy of a reply.

If a community is to develop, beginners' questions should at least be given a "benefit of the doubt" reply.

Still looking for answers

I think that this board is "fair". I love that there's a cat forum for me to hang out on and learn about cats, but I've noticed that there are a lot of topics and posts that don't seem to be in the right spot, and a lot of typos and spelling errors. I know that some people aren't naturally great spellers, but deliberate mistakes really bother me. If everyone tried a little harder to put topics where they belong and make what they're saying a little easier to read, I think this forum would be a great place.

I can not answer your questions about the user level or the cat of the day, (I do not know either) But I do have a question for you. Have you created a- Introduce yourself and your cat?- That is a good way to let members know who you are and that you intend to stay around a while. There are a lot who join and than just disappear. Sadly, but it seems to happen quite often. This lets you get to know us too. Just trying to help.

I get a little lost on some of these message boards. I'd also like to know what the criteria is for being "Senior member", "Guru", "Supreme Being" as I am just a lowly junior member. I am pretty new around here and don't know how these things are decided. I also don't know how a cat becomes "Cat of the Day", or featured cat. I have found this to be a very interesting place. I have just started to participate in forums. So far, I haven't had many replies. I'm afraid I might be doing it wrong. Nemo and Fiona would both like a crack at Cat of the day. I happen to think they are the greatest cats I have ever loved.

Hi CathyKitty: If you look at the top of the board next to the HOME and CALENDAR it has a SEARCH and if you click on that you can search for specific things you want to see. Most people don't realize it is up there and I've used it several times to bring up something I remember was posted and can't locate. So maybe that will help you.

I also saw you posted minutes later after your first post and you put "--waits for reply--" and really that's not fair to us. What many may not realize is that this is a board of members--and not staff--- who voluntarily come here and offer their time for free to help others and to enjoy conversation with fellow cat lovers. There are no set hours and no set requirements that we be here or even answer posts. We come here because we want to be here. Many do not understand that we do not have to answer posts at all. If you are unhappy, then roll up your sleeves and get involved and help answer posts and begin learning more about cats so that you too can help out. Sometimes there are little thanks to the people here who offer their opinions and for the research or time taken to provide responses.

If you want to contact the moderator and get a response from her to this non-emergency problem about the refresh probably on Monday or Tuesday you can e-mail her directly at catmoderator@bowtieinc.com. I cannot help you with the refresh and can only tell you don't hit the refresh button if it is doing something right now that you don't want it to do. Personally, I don't hit the refresh button at all. She may not know the answer either and it may be a technical question that she can run by the technical people but they may not have an immediate answer for you either. Good luck.

2 things to improve: sometimes when waiting for a response, you refresh. unfortunatly it says the topic got viewed again when it was only refreshed.

another. you could add a search thing for the boards where you could easily search topics

Edited to add: I voted a five, but lately I have been really annoyed by how often I have to go back and forth between the old board and the new board to look up different threads. Is there any way we can repost the old threads on this forum???

I would really hate for all that work I put into the previous forum to be wasted.

We have discussed having an off topic forum, but for now have rejected it. However, Ragdoll Mom has created the Cat Cafe in the Cat Chat forum and I think that's a great place for what you suggested.

As for having to go back and forth between the old board and new board, I think that is just an unfortunate byproduct of the redesign with the new boards.

Yes, you are right. I did delete the other poll. That is only because someone suggested I only have one poll because they didn't understand why there were two polls for the same thing. I thought that was a good suggestion, so I did it. Someone also suggested I delete all the responses to whichever one satisfaction poll that stays up so that the poll would be fresh; there was no point in keeping up old suggestions that have already been made. In about another month, I will delete all the old responses again so the poll will be fresh for new responses, comments and suggestions. I'm sorry for not being more clear on this.

You asked for feedback as to why there are so many negative votes. Well, you DID receive feedback when the votes were FIRST cast! Problem is, you deleted all those posts. I know you deleted my previous posts because I KNOW I've posted maybe 4 or 5 messages here and when I looked, it now says I've only created one post (this will be my 2nd). We both know I've posted more than that here. Again, not looking to start trouble, just thought I'd state a matter of fact.

Thank you for the suggestion. That has been brought up before, but advertising is not permitted on the boards. I'm sure everyone here knows of at least one cat or kitten that needs a home or has suggestions on where to get a new cat or kitten, and if we all posted about this our boards would be overflowing!
