Can Anyone Sex My Kitten? Pictures Included!

I have a kitten someone gave to me who is supposed to be a male. However, I'm not sure if he is or not. Anyone who knows anything about cats, knows that kittens can be hard to sex. I keep going back and forth thinking, "Male. No, female. Male, definitely. Female." So I took some pictures and maybe someone can help me? Hoping he's a male and I kind of think he is but I'm just not positive. He's a very active kitten Also, I just can't get the semi-colon, colon thing people tell you to look for- can anyone tell me how to tell? If blood freaks you out, please don't read further.

We adopted Jackie-Julep from a friend who was evicted from his home and left Jackie outside. She was pregnant when we got her and on 5/5 (Cinco de Mayo!) she gave birth to 3 lovely kittens. She gave birth right on the carpet, and I wasn't going to move her. It's since been cleaned out and she has moved the kittens under a sofa. The two birthing boxes I set up for her have been ignored. That's the way it goes, huh? There's one black one, one silver one, and one black/golden brown one (can't tell yet if it's a tortie or a tabby pattern...maybe some combination of both?).

New Kitten, older Cat not getting along

I recently added a new kitten to our family of three older Cats two males and one female, the two male cats are getting along fine with the new kitten. She explained that a colleague drove to work and found 4 kittens under his toolchest in the back of his truck. They drove the truck back to the place where they could find the Mother. The concerned friends set up a trap with the kittens in it to see if the Mother would return to her babies. After waiting for over an hour, my friend decided to bottlefeed the cute little creatures.

Since my friend works long hours, she called me to see if we could help care for them until they would be ready for adoption. One looks like a little Bob Cat tabby with gray & yellow stripes, one is a black & white Tuxedo with symetrical marks, big paws with 6 toes, the next one is a the biggest and loudest black fuzzy kitty. The littlest kitten was grey and the poor thing passed away peacefully.

My daughters has Spring Break so she has had all her friends over to help feed them.

SURVEY
Hello Cat Lovers!

I have posted a web link to a cat treat survey. I am a second year MBA student and for one of my class research projects we are focusing on the pet industry. For my group, we are specifically taking a look at the Cat Food/Cat Treat marketplace. Our group has posted this survey on multiple Cat owners community site - very much like Cat Channel. The survey is very quick and asks a few questions. All information is kept private and anonymous - we do not track names or emails etc... Since I am student, unfortunately I do not have the budget to offer free give-aways for completing the survey. So i am hoping that you will do this out of pure kindness and the passion for your cat. if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to leave me a message. I will be leaving this link up for a week or so and will be checking in from time to time.

Regards
FS

(Click on) Cat Treat Survey

Kitten Death

A few months ago my husband and I saved a tiny kitten from the middle of the road and we named her Chole, she was great, fun and lovable. About two weeks after we got her on a Thursday she started stumbling around and was very uncoordinated. My husband immediately called me and I rushed home from work and took her to the vet and they did blood work and couldn't find anything wrong with her. Through the night she seemed fine, but the next morning she was throwing up and could hardly walk. I called the vet to see what to do and they told me to bring her in for monitoring. I got a call from the vet at about 12:30pm saying the Chole had a Cerebral degeneration, this can happen to kittens when thier mothers have a virus when they a pregnant for them and that she couldn't stand no longer and could barely hold her head up :'(. My husband and I went to the vet and saw for ourselves, Chole tried standing when she saw us but couldn't and we sat with her for over and hour when we came to the best conclusion after talking to the vet that we needed to put her down :'(. She died on 9/8/11, and we took her home and buried her and memorialized her.

Three weeks later we went to the animal shelter and bought a special needs kitten an all white deaf kitten in her honor, and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about that tiny kitten we saved from the road..

Would like guesses on what breed my cat could be?

Hello! My cats-are 9months and almost a year old. The older one a siamese mix Heidi is more interested in play and when i let her will run between through my apartment chasing herself hervtoy or her sister whenever possible. The other the younger Cally is a calico and is the cuddlier of the two and more apt to lay next to me while Heidi is running around (mind you running consists of running between the bedroom and livingroom so not far)

Anyway here is my question. I feed them a handful of dry food in the morning along with a small can of wet. They wolf down the wet food as soon as i put it down. When i get home i give them a half a small can of wet and a little more dry then the rest of the wet just before bed. The Siamese is sleek but Her younger adopted sister is getting chunky. They eat from the same dish and both seem to get their full share but i really dont want tge younger one to get fat. Any suggestions? Its harder to regulate with 2 cats. I dont free feed. I cant afford super premium cat food generally. Generally i give them fancy feast and grain free dry.

How much should i feed them? They always seem to be interested in foof following me into the kitchen any time i get up

Saved Two Kittens

My neighbor called me Saturday morning Oct. 29 and said he had found two kittens in his garage. I went over and was able to catch a glimpse of them as they were eating - he had already gone out and bought cat food, litter and set up a temporary litter box. They had no intention of keeping them but at the same time wanted to protect them until some disposition could be arranged. We reasoned that they had been dropped off and made it into the garage while the door was up for a few minutes.
My wife and I had lost our cat of 15 years in August, and while we weren't looking yet we had agreed that we would not turn away a kitten if one 'found' us. She told her sister about the kittens, who came over and took the tawny tabby, leaving a smaller black one. We went over again on Sunday after the black one was finally caught and set-up in the house in a box. At that time we were considering them feral until shown otherwise, because that's how they were acting, although the tabby was already working out fine with the kids and other cats. We figured that the kitten had gone through a lot to find us, so we took her home. I named her 'Zoe' and we thought we would foster her until either we decided she was too wild or she became a pet.

Within 3 days, she was basically tamed and in full contact with us, so I guess she wasn't feral. Then, we discovered that 'Zoe' was a 'Zak'! So now we have a cat again, and it's great. He now has the run of the house and has doubled in size. We think they were about 6 or 7 weeks when abandoned. We're selecting a vet today and he'll go in for the first visit this week. He certainly appears to be healthy, but the tests will tell the story.

Here's a pic of Zak, taken this morning:

Moving worried about traumatizing my kittens

So unexpectedly i find myself moving into a new apartment this weekend.my lease is up next month and i was offered a deal on a newer apartment in he same complex but only if i moved immediately. They think playtime is 11:30 PM and it's up and at em at 5 AM. That gives me about 5 hours sleep, I used to get up at 6:30. The problem is when they wake or before bed they like to run through the 2 rooms of my apartment chasing each other. To prevent that I close the door to my bedroom which helps but then they whine to get in which also makes noise and doesn't do my door much good with the scratching. Already the neighbors downstairs have complained they hear" noise" too much from my apartment, I'm guessing it may be the cats though the apartments have zero sound insulation so just my getting up can be heard as I walk across the floor since I have an artificial leg so my step is rather heavy.
I can sometimes get the more excitable cat (the siamese mix) calm using a bit of catnip but this situation has me nervous and tired all the time. Now I'm just trying to decide if a kitten or adult cat would be best for my dog. She's a shih tzu/chihuahua mix. She's very friendly and socialized. The only problem is that she has unlimited energy! Every time we go to my mom's house she wants to play with my mom's cat and he'll have nothing to do with it. (Perhaps it bears mentioning that he's about 17 and not as playful as he used to be.) He'll give her a swipe or two and she'll back off, but I'm concerned because she only weighs 8 lbs a full grown cat who really got angry with her could do some serious harm. I'm thinking a kitten might enjoy playing with her more. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Sara

Breeds of Cats

How do you find out how kind of breed our cat is???????????

Christmas Poll

So will your cat get a gift or not?
Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree How my Mama will Miss you

Help asap, please??

How do you load a picture. He was part of a foster liter I took in for a no kill shelter. I decided to keep him when he seemed to get along with everyone.

Then we put up the Christmas tree and everything changed. Being curious and only 3 months old Sam is very attracted to the lights. My partner had the end of the cord down on the floor unplugged. I was gone last night but I heard in retrospect that Sam kept on attacking the lights. My partner tried yelling at him and throwing him in the bathroom but it didn't work multiple times. When I got home I just moved the cord off the floor and no more problem.

Now my 7 year old son is upset and is calling Sam "a bad cat" that needs to go back to the shelter. This bothers me because I really wanted Sam to be a family cat. Not just my cat but it's starting to turn out that way. Honestly it seems that everyone is scared of him. My partner seems to want a comatose lap cat. He gets aggravated when Sam scratches or tries to play with him.

I don't know why I'm the only one who realizes that Sam is a creature with his own thoughts and ideas. He's not going to do everything everyone wants him to do. I'm just frustrated and worried because I know cats get set in their ways. Personally I really am enjoying having Sam around but I might be the only one.

new boy, a tiger in disguise?

I introduced myself earlier and have had a problem with new kitten Jack - he is food possessive. If I am eating, he will jump on table and then pounce on my plate and growl and hiss and i get scratched getting him down. He does not "answer" to the water pistol and will eat ravenously at whatever is on my plate. Turnip greens last nite! I have gotten where I eat behind a shut door. Jack has food 24-7 and eats well. Vet says is gaining weight correctly and that maybe his hoarding and claiming food is due to his upbringing in a cat hoarder's home, but he was still nursing when he and his siblings were rescued by the shelter. His siblings according to their new mommy (human) do not do such things. He is neutered already but this stuff is scary to see. He grabbed a chicken leg the other nite and ate growled and hissed all at the same time. One would think to see him that he is starving! Any suggestions or do I just wait for him to grow up and behave? When he gets in this mode my other cats flee!

Looking for solutions for sneaky kitty who pees on stove burners

I have recently had an issue with one of my cats jumping up on my stove and peeing either directly on the burner or on top of the stove if the burner is covered. I haven't been able to catch the sneaky culprit! I have tried burner toppers (metal covers) and they just peed on the cover. I tried propping the oven top up overnight like you do when you clean it and they just snuck under it and peed directly on top of the undercarriage part. I tried cleaning the entire stove VERY thoroughly with nature's miracle and then putting cat deterrent spray on/around the general area...no luck. I am really at a loss of what to do here...there is absolutely no worse smell in the world than BURNING cat pee...and seriously I COOK food in that thing I am already at the point where I am looking towards buying a new one but I DO NOT want the new one to go the same route as the 'old' one which was actually less than six months old in its own right!! Any ideas, help is SO appreciated! And I was just given a little female kitten last week that we named Cinder.

Medical:

She went to the vet yesterday! ^_^
They think she is about 3 months old, she weighs 3.1 pounds.
She tested NEG for FIV/Felv - yay!
She got her shots, nails trimmed, and ears cleaned.
She does / did have a little ear mites.
They gave her Advantage Multi which kills ear mites, fleas, and many types of worms / parasites.
Her tests came back today, they said she has / had 1 parasite but the Advantage takes care of it. *yay*
She was a real charmer and everyone loved her.

Question: Does anyone know how long it will take for the mites to be good and dead?

Behavioral:

Cinder is very sweet, cuddly and affectionate but can also be bounce off the walls playful after a good nap. She is very purry'.

She sometimes gives 'kisses' and she will even grab a hand and pull you in for licks. Once in a while she tries a *chomp*, but we are discouraging that with a *psst* noise.

We've been keeping her in our bedroom, away from the boys. She has a cage for night-time, naps, to eat/drink, or if we go out. Otherwise, she has been sleeping on one of us or playing on our bed. *right now she was playing, but has passed out on the bed*

My younger boy, Leeroy has practically set up camp outside my bedroom door - Leeroy is very curious and interested in Cinder. I let him look at her from the doorway, like 5ft. away from her in her cage. When she saw him, she hissed. >_< Leeroy didn't care and wanted to get closer. When we got Leeroy, he followed Jinx around everywhere and Jinx looked at him like he had 3 heads and tried to avoid him. Leeroy is truly the pesky little brother, but I find them cuddling and they romp around every day.

My older boy, Jinx was bottle-raised by us. He probably really thought he was a German Shepherd until he met Leeroy. He came sniffing around my door and I let him take a peek. He got all wide-eyed like "what...is..that?!" His ears went back, displeased and Cinder hissed at him, too.. but he hissed back and ran off in a huffy mood.

So: I want to try working on introductions soon, but need to be sure the mites are dead! The other animals know somethings up, and I don't want Cinder to get too comfortable with hissing at everything bigger than her. She would still have her cage and own litter box, until I'm comfortable - I think she needs to almost double in size before she has run of the house.

Leeroy hissed at the dogs when we first got him - I fixed his attitude by holding him so my Bichon could safely lick every inch of him - my Bichon is *dying* to get within licking distance of Cinder. She hissed at him from across the room too. >_<

Soooo many things to go over!
Tips and Tricks, insight, anything very much appreciated! ^_^

My cat is New,Persian and Spayed and acts differently towards males and females!

Well I got my rescued 3 year old. Persian cat, Bossy, 2 months ago and it seems like at the shelter she was more loving and attentive. She was even getting her eyes cleaned. Well NOW Bossy will not stand to get her eyes cleaned or let us touch her hardly at all!! She seems scared or afraid! I make my husband clean her eyes because I don't want her hating me! She doesn't like him anyways for some reason, but still! I feel bad.. It's so hard because sometimes she's skittish with me, but now I'm barely getting the best of her. She's near me mostly. But she still doesn't like her eyes cleaned, and runs away, under the bed from my husband, and not to mention me sometimes. It's heartbreaking because all we want to do is love her, but how? She seems to be on her own agenda...I guess, hence the name BOSSY! Any advice would truly help...Thank You.

New kitten not going well, advice?

Ok I’ll try and make this as short as possible, but need to add in details. I had/have 2 cats, one was 16 years old, and I have a 3 yr old, both were males. Well I lost my 16 yr old in April to congestive heart failure, so I just have my 3 yr old now. Since the oldest passing the 3 yr old and I have gotten super close. I got him as a kitten someone had found and I took him in and adopted him.

So....I am/was not ready for another cat/kitten right now since I just lost my heart and soul when my 16 yr old passed. Figure when it was time, one would find me. Well needless to say, it did. A stray kitten showed up where I work at. So she is now home with me. So this is the background, here is the problem.

I didn’t know how my 3 yr old would act with her. I did the proper intro. The kitten is 3 months old by the way. Put the kitten in a spare room with a big window, tons of toys and a new bed. I would go in and visit the kitten and come out and visit my 3 yr old. Did the whole keep em separated thing, would rub a towel on both of their cheeks for the scent thing etc. Did this the first week. I them built a small screen and place it in the doorway and went in kitten’s room and tried to let them see each other. My 3 yr old growled and hiss something vicious. I thought from the way he sounded he was going to come through the screen and tear us both up it was scary. Did that for a few days and decided to try and let the kitten out in the living room with my 3 yr old. My 3 yr old growled and hissed if the kitten would come close to him. Kitten got brave and then began to chase my three yr old, and he would run like he was scared to death of her, growling and hissing the entire time. She would chase him and not stop for nothing. I kept/keep the visits to a minimum, and every time I let her out I try and distract her with playing with her toys etc but she continues to go and chase my three yr old. (She has uncontrollable energy, to the point it is unbelievable). SO tonight she pushed and pushed and pushed at my 3 yr old until he turned around and whacked her across the head (he seemed to try and do it gently yet firm enough to where I thought he may have gotten her, I checked to make sure he didn’t hurt her and he didn’t). The kicker is….the second I sat her down she was back at it again, went right back for more, he slapped her again and she just kept going at him. Not aggressive like she wanted to hurt him.....more like ohhhh yeahhhhh tough guy....wanna box huh huh huh? Bouncing all over the place at him.

This kitten is non stop playing; I would say out of control....you can’t move with her attacking your hands and feet (I know that is typical kitten behavior, I have had cats/kittens all my life and have NEVER see one like this one when it comes to playing and her non stop-ness). She bites and scratches so much that my arms and hands are torn up to shreds, not in a mean way but in a playing, attacking way. It hurts, none the less. I have tried to holler out NO BITE at her when she does this, she could care less what I say, I have tried grabbing a toy and shoving it at her as she is doing this, she grabs the toy, flings it and comes back for more on your hands, with double the force, I have even (while I was sitting down of course) taken and when she grabs my arm and hand and starts biting took my hand and shoved it back and she would actually roll over backwards and just come back twice as hard and twice as fast to my hands.

So with all that, here are my two questions.

How to I make her stop biting and scratching the bejeezus out of me?

How do I get her to stop chasing my 3 yr old nonstop because it is ticking him off and I want them to get along....not hate each other. He wants to see her and smell her but she just grabs at him and chases him. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img onload = "resizeThis(this)" align=" />

Thinking of two kittens but small apartment

Until a few weeks ago i was the proud mom of a beautiful lilac siamese. I live in a small apartment and though i know a new kitten might be lonely with me working all day im not sure there is room for two. I read here about the small room at first intro but i really dont have a setup like that. I have a bedroom, small galley kitchen and large living, dining area that is open the bathroom is tiny. I could maybe have one kitten in there but never two.

Also i hate to sound selfish but if two kittens are they less apt to bond with you as they have each other?

misty was 18 when i lost her and belonged to my roomate myself and my godson. He has had no problems adjusting to the house and to the family dog (a terrier/poodle mix).
Our two older cats (female: 4years -- male: 3years) aren't that comfortable with him. The female hissed and ran away, the male just fled when we attempted to introduce them. The thing that concerns me is that the male had a funny look in his eyes. Either like "I'm scared of it" or "I'm going to kill it."
The male cat (a bombay) has some stress issues and, as he is attached to me, has a habit of spraying on items I own (i.e. bed, clothes, rug, ect.) when we move the furniture or something new happens.
I'm just concerned that the male might try to attack the kitten (the male is 12lbs and very large while the kitten is only 2 1/2lbs). I’m a long-time reader of this forum (most of you seem very sensible about your kitties) and so when I started having some real issues with this introduction, I thought this would be a good place to come for advice.

I’ve recently brought a stray cat into my home, hoping to introduce him to my existing cat. My cat’s name is Dezzie – she’s spayed and 1.5 years old (weighing about 7 or 8 pounds). The new cat is Boomer – he’s recently been neutered and we’re not really sure how old he is (full-grown and around 12 pounds).

Well, I had Boomer neutered exactly one week ago. Since then he’s been holed up in my bedroom, with litter box, food, toys, etc. I’d been getting Dezzie used to his scent for a few weeks beforehand by bringing her towels that I’d rubbed on him or letting her smell my hands after I’d pet him. Dezzie was completely unreactive to his scent and didn’t seem at all bothered to smell and hear him behind the bedroom door, so I decided it was time for step 2 after a couple of days.

I put two baby gates (one on top of the other) to block my bedroom door, and started leaving the door open so that the cats could see each other but not touch, and so Boomer’s smell could waft throughout the apartment. This is sort of when the trouble started. Dezzie would get really angry whenever she saw him – for some reason the smell didn’t bother her, but actually seeing Boomer just made her RAGE. She’d hiss, growl, and go screeching across the apartment just from the briefest glance at him through the door. And this behavior absolutely didn’t diminish or change at all for five solid days.

So this morning Dezzie wanted to go outside. I let her out for the majority of the day. Boomer was obviously starting to get bored and frustrated from being in the same room for over a week, and he’s been so beautifully behaved that I admit I felt bad for him. So, I let him wander around the apartment while I was at work and Dezzie was outside. When I got back from work, Dezzie wanted back in again.

As you can probably guess, this is when the fight happened. I’d put Boomer back into my bedroom but I forgot to close the “extra” door, so he managed to sneak out soon after Dezzie came back in. I didn’t see much of the fight but I heard Dezzie shrieking and saw literal chunks of fur flying around the kitchen. I managed to grab Boomer as he was trying to get away and put him safely back into the bedroom.

Boomer wasn’t hurt, and both cats were acting totally normal just a few minutes after the fight. Even so, I’m really afraid that this has ruined any chance of them ever co-existing peacefully. I just don’t understand it – Dezzie is very social and gets along great with other cats. For some reason she just HATES Boomer, and I have no idea why. Especially since Boomer is literally the least threatening cat in the world. I’ve never even seen him put his ears back.

Right now I have them both separated by the solid door – I’ve also been trying to (slowly) get Dezzie used to going near it again. Going near the door = food and cuddles. I’m quite sure that Dezzie could really hurt Boomer if she attacked him again (he’s very docile and can’t see very well), and there’s no doubt in my mind that she was the one who instigated the fight.

Ugh, this whole situation is just making me sick to my stomach. I love both of my kitties! But I’m really worried that they’ll never be able to get along, and I will absolutely be heartbroken if I have to give Boomer up. Does anyone have any advice to offer?

(And thanks for reading all of this, if you did – I just tend to get very wordy when I’m upset)

PS – I know a lot of you like photos so I’ve attached some pictures of my cats. Boomer is the big Siamese and Dezzie is the little tabby.
Rescue Remedy or similar?

I can't adopt another kitty right now, but when I do....I'm wondering if Rescue Remedy or similar type scent might help both cats adjust more?

I never had a problem before with introducing a new cat, but when I got Miss Kitty (little over two years old now), she and Holly (14 yrs old) were fussing vocally alot with each other. I felt sad for her and rescued her. I was told she had been eating adult dry food and what ever else she could find. Had no shots or deworming yet either. She also has conjunctivitis in her left eye. I also was told the vet down the road could help with her, so I took her there right away.
The vet was great to see us on short notice. Did a small exam, applied eye ointment, vaccinated and dewormed. So after all that she has been playful a little and sleeping a lot, that I expected. But in the last 3days she has thrown up 4x. So I am wondering if its just adjusting to new food or what. She does go and eat but still sleeps a lot and with in a few hours of eating she gets sick. I got eye ointment to bring home but her eyes are only a little better it even is in the other eye, lots of drainage.

I plan on taking her to my regular vet soon but just in the mean time, thought I'd see what any of you can tell me.
