I accidentally killed my daughters kitten

Before you rain down your critics on me (other forums already did that and provided no advice) please note that im a cat lover and what im gonna tell below was nothing but a cruel accident that I wont be able to forget:

So I have this beautiful 9 year old daughter and last week I got her a 10 week old kitten for her birth day (the others at the shelter where over 5 years and she asked for a kitten) so after getting all the necesary stuff to make sure the kitten grew up healthy.

So it all began this morning, my daughter fed her kitten as I taught her to, then she went with her mom to her grandmas and I Stayed as I wasnt feeling all that good, after a few hours of sleep I woke up hungry, all I could find on my fridge was meat, so I went to the gas grill and turned it on, our grill belonged to my wifes dad, so its really old, and takes a while to heat inside, so I turned the gas all the way up with the lid closed.

It usually takes around 30 minutes to get to 200 degrees so I went and took a shower so I could feel better (flu always hits me real hard), when I go out to the yard to place the meat in the grill I noticed this really awful smell coming out of it. When I open the lid I saw the most horrible thing ever, "blacky" my daughters kitten was inside!!, obviously dead. I will not go trough the details on describing her at the time.

After cleaning up and buriying the kitten I made sure there was no evidence left, I totally cleared the smell from the place, got rid of the grill and spent hours tryng to realize how it all happened.

The only conclusion to me is that the kitten climben inside the grill and that when I turned it on the kitten just had no way out.

My daughter and wife came home a few hours later, Helen, my daughter looked for the kitten everywhere as her granny gave her some kitten toys so "blacky" could play. I told her I had not seen blacky all the afternoon, but that she would appear later, that that was how kittens where.

I did not have the heart to tell her blackie was no more because her father was too lazy to open the grills lid, tough I did tell my wife at night when Helen was sleeping, she got a little mad but we agreed to tell her the next day that blackie had scaped.

Now I called the shelter and they still have blackies brothers and sisters, I was thinking to replace blackie so my daughter wouldnt notice, I know its just wrong but I dont want her to suffer, specially after being so responsible with the kitten, besides I dont think she would ever forgive me if she found out.

Any advice? what should I do? Please no negative comments, what I saw today is something I wont be able to forget, it was just indescriptible, horrible.

Thanks, John Klose.

My new feral orphan

So, four days ago I came home from work and found this little baby meowing her poor little heart out in the backyard! My mom told me to wait until the mother came back, but then our neighbor told us he picked the kitty up. I've seen the mama around and she never let me get near her. (Feral.) So I realized that mama would abandon the baby cause she smelled like humans, and quickly took her inside to get her some food!

She is a girl, so I named her Roxie. I've been feeding her KMR from the bottle and she does sleep in my bed at night. She is quickly becoming a very spoiled little kitten!

I'm guessing she's around 4 weeks old, since she sort of waddles when she walks and I figured she's just learning how to walk. I figured this is actually a good thing, because since her mom was feral she was taken away at the right time to become nicely tamed. (? I think)

I'm going to give this little sweetheart a good home.

Question: when should I stop feeding her from the bottle?

And will my other cat (10 yr old male) kill her? Roxie stays in my bedroom and our resident cat is not allowed in...I'm scared to introduce them!

What breed of cat do I have?

Hello all!
I just got a kitten one week ago, and I don't know what breed she is. After giving them the food I wanted to play with the kittens, I played with every kitten and petted every cat while my dad petted the same cat the whole time. Someone had picked up this cats papers when my dad wasn't looking so he moved on. Soon after the people that took his papers put them back and my dad called my mom saying that he found a cat. So we ended up with another cat, a cream tabby named Tom Tom. We are changing his name but we haven't decided on anything yet. So now I have three trouble makers!

2 abandoned kittens

The other day we found 2 abandoned kittens at a mechanic's shop, the mechanic had no idea where they came from and had no interest in helping them. It's cold out, and they have no food source, so we took them in and now they are residing in my bedroom away from the other cats. They are just old enough to eat hard food.
I looked up the breed and they appear to be oriental shorthairs, or at least have an oriental shorthair parent. They also have the personalities of the oriental. They did not cry in the car, and bounced out of the small cage into the house like they were completely familiar with it. They purr extremely loud and love people. There is not one ounce of timidity in them at ALL. They are both flat in the genital region, so I think they are girls, which is also weird because they are so bold and social. One is solid black, and the other is solid gray, no spots, nothing. Under the peach fuzz fur they have an adult coat, which is only a few millimeters in the length, shortest hair I have seen on any stray kittens (they almost don't have hair on their bellies)! They have very long legs, necks, tails, and they are very slender and muscular. Their heads are also slender and angular.
Here is a link to a picture of the gray one. (kitten looks bigger than she really is, she about the size of 3 of my hands)
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=x5tkpi&s=4

My new Manx, and eating!

Hi all.. I got 2 new Manx kittens that are just over 4 weeks old. When I first got them a week ago, they were still nursing, which we ended up ok with that. Now I have moved their food to the bowl, a short shallow good bowl. The problem is, the kittens wear the food! It ends up all over them, and the floor. They still try to suck the food and will not chew. also the seem to be trying to forcefully stick their head in the bowl, I see their little legs just treading hard pushing and pushing. Now my little boy is scraping it with his paws.

Will this get better and how soon? Is their anything I can do to make them learn better to eat, not wallow?

Before anyone says it, I KNOW THEY ARE TOO YOUNG! but I had no choice, because the owner was giving them away because she was moving, and had to get rid of them, and here where I live in Mexico, thier are not Human society's so I took them to save them, and will raise them , and have them for many years!

Any advice and or help will be greatly appreciated!!!

my kitties are leaving

well its time to say bye bye to my babies...the hardest part about being a breeder is letting go .....i have one little guy the runt of the litter sooo adorable but because he was smaller yet stronger than the rest noone wanted him so sad...

new kitty help!!!

hi i just got a new kitten 1 day ago hes 7 weeks old. he will not eat kitten chow his old owners feed him people food like chips and hamburger and other people food i moistened the kitten chow he drinks water also try eatting try litter from his litter box. how do i get him to eat kitten chow and stop eatting his litter. i need help thank you

Kitten suddenly won't eat kitten food

Help please ??

My little male Ragdoll, Oliver is just about 16 weeks old now. Here is the whole story...

I've been feeding a stray cat outdoors now for about a year or so. Mostly I just put food out on the back porch when the cat wasn't out there and then he'd come and eat it and so I didn't have much contact with him.

For about the last month, however, he would wait out there for his food in the morning and in the evening when I got home from work.

I should probably mention that I have several cats (all indoors and all spayed or neutered) that I previously rescued as strays.

So, I noticed that this stray cat must have gotten into a fight about a month ago because he has scratches all over his face and his eyes have a red discharge and his third eyelids cover half his eyes.

He looks just pitiful.

I live in a very cold part of the country and so I started feeling sorry for him. So, Thursday night I called and made an appointment for him at the vet's office for next Saturday, Oct 24th, 2009.

Then last night when I got home from work I baited my live animal trap and put it on the porch and the cat was in it within 5 minutes.

I had his room all ready. Because I already have several other cats I am keeping him in his own room. I put box tape across the bottom of the door to his room on both sides to prevent him from breathing on my cats under the door. His room is right off the back porch so I only enter his room from the outside so that he can't accidentally get into the house and infect my existing cats with anything he might have.

Now that I have him in the house I see that he is really rough looking. He has multiple fight wounds and I've started to worry about the possibility he might have rabies. He is eating like a pig, but he acts very depressed and everytime I go into his room he cries.

I just went into his room to take him some more canned food and to scoop out his litter box and he hissed at me.

Now, I realize that he is probably just scared and not used to being indoors, but I don't even know that I'll be able to get him into his pet carrier next Saturday for his vet appointment. I don't want this cat biting me or anything because I have NO IDEA what he has been fighting with.

I've begun to worry about it so much that I almost just opened the back door to let him back outside. He seemed much happier out there and I certainly don't want to do anything to jeopardize myself or my existing cats.

I guess I'm just worried because of all of his fight wounds.

Also, he is a male (not yet neutered) and he has sprayed the whole back room.

I don't want to put him out because I'd really like to help him, but I'm sort of scared of him.

I've been keeping cats for about 30 years (and rescuing strays) and this is the first time I've been like this.

What do you think? Do you think I'm overreacting to the potential rabies threat with this cat? He isn't foaming at the mouth or anything. And he is eating. I think it is because he looks so terrible. His eyes look downright scary. Mostly, it worries me because I have other cats in the house, but I am keeping them separate from him and will continue to do so for some time (even if he gets a clean bill of health (which is very doubtful) from the vet next Saturday.

OH NO!!!

ah! me and my fiance are moving into a nice spacious townhouse on thursday. but yesterday, we found some tiny, emaciated kitties and we couldnt wait till thursday to save them! so we brought them into our teeny, tiny apartment to try and feed them a little andsee if they are ok. we gave them baths and got them checked out and made sure they were ok and safe to bring into our house. the issue here is that in this tiny little apartment, the bigger cats are not having this!!! now the two little sisters are being bullied by our other cats, and even the two older cats have turned agianst each other for some reason. i have been trying to slow the introduction process, but they are still fighting. i don't know what to do!!!

Its too soon, but i think I found kittys (R.I.P) FAMILY

So as you can imagine from my last posting Im better now, tough a little sad, specially since it turns out kitty was poisoned, you see we found a can of tuna in our backyard, which smelled and looked awful, my brother who is a chemist tested the contents and they had some weird sounding (cant remember the name) poison on it (im glad we kept our dogs locked in the other yard, as they could have been poisoned aswell).

This was confirmed by our vet, who said (and by the way apologized, since he had to leave town in an emergency the night kitty died) upon description of the symptoms that she indeed died of poisoning.

I still feel bad that there are people capable of such monstrocities, and even more sad that I did not had the chance to bury kitty. Tough thats all in the past and while Ill never forget about her, something in the paper today caught my attention.

Theres someone just 1 block away from our place that is giving 3 kittens in adoption, who happen to be kittys age, breed and even color, due to the circumstances I think kitty may have belonged to that litter (upon speaking with the owner of those kitties she said the mom was runover by a car and one of the kitties lost about the same day I found "kitty").

She is giving them out due to the fact that she is moving and she cant take them, I now its too soon, should I adopt them? she promises they are deparasited and vaccinated (they are 7 weeks old). tough it doesnt seem allright as i can only take 2 (as you remember i have also 2 doggies) im not completely sure about the 3rd one, tough i know a friend who also wants a cat. The first came about 6pm and the last before 11pm. Mom and babies all doing very well. However, Sunday morning about 8am I discovered a fifth kitten. That seems like a long time between kittens to me. Mom and little surprise doing very well. Kitten is as big as others and there doesnt seem to be a runt in the bunch. Mom is still a little on the big side though. Could I expect more in the next little while or is she done? Any feedback would help.

First of all thank you very much but Im done with cats

First of all thank you all for helping me understand our sweet "kitty", you helped me, her and my family understand each other, your advice helped kitty live as happily as possible, unfortunately kitty passed away a mere 10 minutes ago.

She was laying on the garden as usually when the sprinkler system went on soaking her, she began cryng so I took her in, she stood still not moving but alive, she climbed up me as usual, so i assumed she was just cold, so I bathed her on warn water, dryed her, even played with her a little, tough she still wouldnt dare to get up, so assuming she was just scared from the "splash" i took her outside and placed her in her hideout.

She just layed there asleep, I put her favorite (read only, I got her a box full of toys today) toy with her and went to school and to the pet shop to buy said toys, when I arrived she was laying in the exact same position i left her in, thats when I knew something was up. There wasnt any vet available at 10 pm so we took her in robes and stayed with her till she passed.

Tough the way she went was beatiful, she reached for me outside her robes and put her head and one of her feet on my hand, she even let our dogs come close (I think the dogs sensed what was up as they where even crying) and rubbed her head against them; a few minutes later she went back in the robes and began moving frenetically, then she just threw up some weird liquid, then she went to her box and simply fell, a few seconds later she stopped breathing and died, when I disposed of her little body I noticed blood coming out of her mouth, the poor little thing cared to show us love when she was suffering so bad, cats may think they are the leaders, but they sure love their "subordinates".

Im so sad, Even if im a guy, that kitten was like a son to me, she depended heavily on me, cried after me, trusted me, a relationship that lasted a mere six days feels like it lasted for years, and as I say I thank you guys for helping me out, tough Im not ready for another cat and will not be in quite sometime, my dogs also need me and bringing another kitten in my life would be as harmful for them as it is for me,

Thank you very much, from me, my family and kitty, who wherever she is now is happier than ever.

please dont bite

my little kitty is 9 weeks old now he love's to bit my hand and fingers how do i get him to stop this he has lots of toys and i play with him he don't like to be cuddle my boyfriend said i am turning him in to a brat because i buy him lots of toys. can someone help me out

about my not anymore feral orphan kitten

Well already took my kitten to the vet, he got deparasited, checked, and bathed, turns out she is about a month and a half old, so my 3 weeks estimate was way wrong. The vet told me she is an european cat.

She seems to be getting better with our poodles (specially the younger one) and overall is a great pet. tough Ive still got some questions that hopefully will help me understand better.

1.) Every time I leave her after play she begins meowing after me, until I come to her, (she is always on the garden and on our laundry at nights), why is this? just wants to play longer or something?
2.)How many times a day should I feed her? (we give her milk with sugar on nights, tuna on evenings and lots of water)
3.)Why does she always seems to smell bad? She is 4 months old. Every night around 3am she licks me or my girlfriend, and paws us to wake up. Then we put her outside the room and shut the door. Then around 5 she starts meowing non-stop for us to let her in so eventually I give in and then she jumps all over us to play. This is really messing me up.

What can I do to stop this?

Ashland won't come into the house anymore.

It started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I noticed he would no longer walk across the room to go out the door but would run instead in desperation to get out. His fur is thinning on his back near his tail and his skin has a rash but I can't find a flea on his entire body. If bring him into the house he starts to scratch insistently and seems to avoid the floor and meows to get out. It's wet and rainy out so let him sleep in the car to protect him from the weather. I'm wondering if there might be tiny microscopic insects I can't see jumping on him when he is in the house. I know what fleas look and haven't seen any. She hates the other cat thats staying with us for awhile, and shes biting and hissing at everyone, including the new cat. I thought she was just scared but she has her own room that she can claim. I don't want this to be a big problem later, and I wondered also if its because shes not fixed and hes male, but their both still kittens, and she gets fixed next week! Also she hisses and growls but wants to play at the same time sometimes!
I'm so confused!

We seem to have inadvertantly adopted a Stray (feral?) kitten

We have two kittens, well cats now since they just turned one year old; Tucker and Quincy.
We live in Jamaica, and because there is no air-conditioning in our house, we leave doors and windows open for cross-breeze.
This is how the boys got to be outdoor cats. They have a 7:00 p.m. curfew.
There are a lot of stray cats here. Jamaica seems not to respect cats in general.
That's the background.
About a month ago we discovered this little kitten hanging around (roughly two -three months old). We started to feed him outside and he would come out to eat and then duck and run away if we came anywhere near. Our idea was to get him to trust us and then take him to the vet to see if they could find a home for him.
Of course, as we warmed him up to us, he warmed us up to him, and as I type this he is lying about three feet away in the study. My husband, dear man, decided we can't give him away because it might be too traumatic for him...awwww...so now he is ours. His name is Junior.
He still ducks and scurries, won't let me get a flea collar on him, but loves to be patted and rubs my legs. The boys seem to be gradually adapting to him. They are still not happy to see him and chase him away when the mood strikes.
Are there any helpful hints in helping him integrate...ahh...and he also seems to have a bit of a cold. He is not yet at the stage where he can be picked up and taken to the vet, without more trauma. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
Oh new breakthrough today. He used the litterbox for the first time. He has been going outside.
New kitten in the house, old cat has become anti-social

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice on how to get our older cat to accept our new kitten.

On July 5th, we brought a new kitten (Captain Pineapple, approximately 8 weeks at the time) into our house. Our other cat (Spot, 8 years old) was not happy at all about this. Before, Spot wasn't exactly loving, but she would still come around us and sleep in the living room when people were in there.

Since the Captain has been around, Spot sits in one of the bedrooms upstairs all day, sleeps under the dining room table and has been eating much less. We thought it was normal for Spot to be a little pissed at first, and hide for a few days, but now it's been almost 4 weeks and she's still mad.

Captain Pineapple is loving and has fallen right into the patterns around here. He's still a little skittish (he was a stray for the first 7 weeks or so) but if you're sitting still, he'll rub up against you and sit in your lap and demand you pet him. He has playfully chased Spot a couple times, but they haven't fought or anything.

Whenever Spot sees the Captain, she growls at him and hisses if he gets too close. Other than the chasing, Captain has never been aggressive towards Spot. So I don't think Spot is afraid of him, I think she's just super pissed that he's walking around in her territory (yet she hasn't attempted to fight him)

I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with Spot, by petting her when she hides, but sometimes if you reach out to touch her she'll hiss and bat at your hands with her paws (she did that before sometimes, but not as consistently). So she's not only mad at the Captain, but she's mad at us too. It's kind of hard for me though, since Spot has always kind of hated me, but now she's even being mean towards my mom who she's usually nice to.

Beyond the behavior issues, I'm beginning to get concerned about Spot's health. We took both of them to the vet yesterday, and Spot has lost almost a full pound (from ~9.5 to ~8.5). She's been eating noticeably less.

Sorry for the long post, just trying to give as much information as possible. Help us get our kitties to love each other It's so heartbreaking to see Spot hiding all day and avoiding us on purpose.

Well what ya know

First I gotta say I am sorry it is so long but I am super pumped and I like details...

So I decided to get out of the house for awhile and I met my fiance at our local watering hole. We were trying to plan what time we were going to the shelter tomorrow to see this adorable kitten I found, I decided if she likes me she's coming home.

One of the bar patrons is talking about a homeless person who is out sidewalk beating up a newspaper machine. So we go for a look. Nothing to see so we decide to take advantage of the night air and we stay outside on the patio to do a little people watching.

Frank is a regular face of the homeless population down here. He is constantly getting asked to leave businesses because he asks for spare change or cigarettes and gets to be a pest. Being downtown for these past two years hasn't turned me against the homeless because so many are mentally ill. But I digress...

So Frank is doing his usual stick and asking everyone for a cig or a light. He gets brushed off and starts to make his way down the street when I notice something hanging of of his left shoulder. It looked like a t-shirt crumpled and laying there so flat. I turned to Scott and said, "Does he have a kitten? What, no way. Yeah it is. Babe he can't have a kitten he can't even feed himself". Scott broke his foot, so he can't run. I took off yelling at Frank, "Hey, hey!" Scott sends Toby (a good friend) in hot pursuit. We catch up to him and Toby asked, " Hey man, where'd you get the cat?" Frank told us he found it. Toby says, "Give it to Brenda". Here comes the interview with Frank, "Well do you have a home for it?" YEAH "Well how do I know your take good care of him?" My half - cocked smile and my wrinkled forehead said it all. "Are you serious? Am I really having an interview with a homeless guy about adopting a cat??! I promise I'll take excellent care of him" For real people, this is a crazy marketing plan for the SPCA give a small animal to a homeless guy- EVERY SINGLE ONE WILL GET ADOPTED.

I took him to my girlfriends apartment since she was closest and we fed him. He dove in head first, I suprised that he didn't bite himself. Off to my place we go I gave him a bath twice, we picked off the buhrs and cleaned his ears. Hey no fleas no ear mites no blood! Right on! His little toes were scraped up a bit but we can handle that.

Look, I really wanted that sweet girl I found but this little guy needs our love. So he's in the spare bathroom sleeping and we are off to the vet tomorrow.

By the way, George is not happy I got hissed at. Really!?! He forgot what it was like to need me. So here he is!!! What do ya think? Should I keep him?

What should we name him? Radar, for the big ears. Homer cuz he has a home. Peepers for the big eyes?

Deamon and the babies

Ok, so i went to my moms today and was horrified when i saw my cat Deamon. He is soooo skinny (he normally loses a ton of weight during the summer, but he's never looked this bad before, he kinda reminds me of the t-rex from Meet the Robinsons "I have a big head and little arms!", because his head is so disproportionate to his skinny little body) plus his ear is now notched out from fighting, he is so skinny that you can see the depression behind his ribs and under his spine where he should have fat. We've taken him to the vet before but he told us Deamon was fine, that he just got skinny because he was fighting with other cats all the time and looking for females to mate with since he isn't fixed. Well i cant stand to see him like this anymore so i've decided to bring him up to live with me, my bf, and our 5 month old kittens Hiro and Ivanka.
I have a couple of things i would greatly appreciate some advice on:

1. He isnt used to bathing, having his nails clipped, or traveling in a car since he is an outside cat. I was wondering if you guys thought it best if i had a vet prescribe a sedative to take the edge off this whole ordeal. You see he isnt feral, not even close but my mom who cares for him treats him more like a farm cat than a pet since he isn't her cat, so he hasn't had a bath or nail clipping in oh say 4 years ( and seeing as both my kittens are strictly inside cats and i don't use any chemical flea repellents because they don't have or get flees since they are bathed every 2 weeks and both of them have their nails trimmed every few days, it will be necessary to bathe and clip Deamons nails so he doesn't bring fleas or harm the kittens when i bring him home)I just think this coupled with the move might be a little traumatic to him otherwise, what do you think?

2. When my lease is up on my apartment in October i plan on moving into a bigger house and i think that that will probably be around the time i can get everything in order to bring Deamon up. Should i bring all the cats to the new house together so it will be sort of a neutral territory thing? Should i bring the babies first so they are calmed down by the time i bring Deamon home or should i move Deamon first so his scent is already around the house and he is healed from being neutered when they all meet? Im not really worried about him meeting Hiro, who we had neutered at 3 months, i think he is mellow enough to only take a few hours to get used to Deamon. But Ivanka is another story, she is my DIVA cat, when Hiro had his de-sexing surgery in June, Iva didn't miss him one bit( they were form the same litter and had never been separated form one another in their lives) in fact, she seemed elated, she was more affectionate and playful than she has ever been until Hiro came home later that day, then she acted like he was evil or something, even after i bathed both of them to get the hospital smell off of him and make them smell alike and rubbed them both with the same towel, it still took her 2 days before she would even let him sit close to her without hissing and swatting at him. Of course they are absolutely thick as thieves now, but i am still worried about her meeting Deamon. Any opinions?

Thanks for any advice you can offer, sorry the q's were so long i'm sort of a talker

What breed is my kitten???

I think she has some Bengal and brown Tabby. Yesterday I posted my introduction thread and showed some pictures of my new kittens (and my older cat). Today I am here with some questions.

All of the kittens started out doing a fantastic job with the litter box, including the tiniest, Joe. (in fact, for a while, he was the best of the lot). I was really pleased with them for seeming to catch on so young! But in the first couple days they pretty much stayed near the box.

Now that they are more comfortable here, they're doing some more exploring. They're venturing to the opposite end of the room, and even into the kitchen. And they are now starting to poop wherever they see fit (Bug is the only kitten who still consistently uses the litter box.) This is starting to happen even right nearby the box, so I don't think that it is so much a matter of them venturing too far from it.

So my question is this - should I restrict their exploring space? I plan to get some more boxes, although I was thinking I'd wait until they start moving throughout the whole house rather than just the one room. I don't really want to restrict their space, but I can't have them pooping all over the living room, either. With 2 dogs, 3 kittens, 1 grown cat and a 5 year old son, the house needs to stay as clean as possible

I also hear that feeding schedules are wonderful and could assist in litter box training. My dogs eat morning and night, but I've never seen it done for a cat before. Stormie's food is available to her all day as she pleases. Does anyone have any advice on how to get this started (the kittens currently have food available all day too), or are the kittens too young to take the food away and try to start a schedule? Am I supposed to let them go hungry for a few hours so that when I do give the food at a scheduled time, they'll eat? The one kitten throwing up has worms so both cats were treated with Strongid T and both had their first shots and one dose each of flea medicine. Now my one kitten Basil seems sick and not sure if its the shot and other medicine making him this way. He still gets sick once in awhile but not too much. He has been sleeping alot and not eating too much since he received his shot and medicines on Thurs.6th. He just seems to have no energy unlike Kool-aid and the vet didn't seem to be too worried about him throwing up. Could it be the medicine that is making him this way? They are due for more shots in 2 weeks and another 1.5mls of worm medicine. And i know cats noses are usually wet his is dry. Any info sure would be appreciated. Also they are only on Friskies wet food (no dry) and water.

Like a Weed!

I know some of us regulars have kittens here. My mum's friend rescued a litter of stray kittens abandoned my their mother and he was the runt. Now, the kittens were abandoned at about 8 weeks so they were already malnutrition-ed and since he was the runt he wasn't doing so well. Now he's about 12 weeks and he's doing pretty well, we're giving him vitamin supplements.
Now, our cat of 6 years never liked other animals, she used to always fight other cats that strayed into our yard but she's always been fine to me and my mum and family. We figured when we got Benny she'd take to him because he's just a kitten and he's weak but the second we introduced them she growled and hissed, since the initial meeting we've tried 3 more times and got the same reaction. Benny is mostly just curious about Bella but we're worried that, from her reactions, he's going to be afraid of her when he gets older. She's mostly ignoring me and everyone and staying outside more than before.
We know it's going to take a while before she gets accustomed to the fact that there's a new kitten in the house but we're not sure if she's going to.
We're keeping Benny in my room for now, letting him roam the house when Bella's outside. We don't want to have to keep him shut away in my room for months while Bella's still not keen on him.
Any advice on how to get her accustomed to the kitten?

Bella, 6 years. Naturally, my ferals would not let her near my place ... so she set up housekeeping in a neighbors' yard. Well, before long, this little lady - she can't be even 8 pounds, and is by far the smallest cat around - found herself in the family way. papa was a large tom, white with a black smudge on his head. (Never saw him before - or since!)

The people at that house took an interest in her, feeding her and preparing a nest for her outside. When she had her litter ... SIX huge kits .... they temporarily brought them all inside. While they later returned to ourside life, Mama ("Ginger") will let me pet her.

All the kittens survived. All save one have been adopted out. All have been fixed. The little one doesn't fear me, but keeps out of reach.

Here are some pics:

8 wk old male kitten throwing up

One of my male kittens is throwing up. He has been on Friskies soft food and recently started mixing Purina kitten chow with it and water to drink. When he throws up its mostly liquid and the color of his cat food (orangy_brown) so he is gotta be digesting his cat food. Sometimes there is a yellow color around it which i presume is bile. He is eating good and using the litter box regularly and is full of energy. Now he just got sick and it was alot of liquid and he wanted to eat again. Could it be that i took him off the milk and soft cat food too soon? They were born on May 17/09 which makes them a little over 11 wks old and also not sure when to get shots but am worried about the throwing up. The other kitten (Coolaid) is not throwing up and isnt as much of a piggy like the other kitten (Basil) what could possibly be wrong? I have heard that the clumping litter is not good for the cats respiratory system, could this be the problem. I live in Ontario, Canada and the vets here charge an arm and leg for the care of your pets. Any info would be appreciated and time is the utmost importance on this situation.

What is my kitten's breed?

A few weeks ago I brought home a stray kitten that was wandering around my neighborhood.
Riot's now thirteen weeks old and 3.6 pounds. The vet checked on him last week and said he's perfectly healthy.

I know nearly everything about him now except his breed. I know he's probably a mixed breed, but I want to know his primary breed.

He's a brown and black tabby with white on his face and a white underbelly, and white socks on all of his legs. He has big, dark-tipped, tufted ears and short to medium length fur and a long tail.

I don't have a very good, or even recent, picture of him right now, but as soon as I do, I'll put it up here.

Zis meh sleepy kitteh.

Looking for advice

George is a 10+ neutered make with no front claws. (he was resuced that way, don't get antsy)

Walter is going on 3 months and he will always have claws.

My quesiton is; If we are to adopt another cat, I'm thinking it will be a female (because now we need more estrogen in the house) will it be safe for George if two of the other cats have front claws?

Does the age matter in this?

Would it be better to look specifically for a declawed female?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Kittens Turning 7 Weeks...How Do I Give Away?

First of all thanks to everyone for the advice giving me in rescuing these kittens born to a feral cat. They are all doing fine and well and appear healthy (haven't taken them to the vet yet).
I can tell you now they are turning 7 weeks on Tuesday and I notice them using the litter fine and some of them are starting to eat. Now I gotta start thinking about giving them away before they get too big and nobody wants them.

Eventually I want to give all 5 kittens away (in a perfect world) and return momma cat back to my backyard/neighborhood spayed this time so there are no more litters. With momma I'm planning on renting or buying a live cat trap and take her to the vet. Even though she is warming up to me I'm still not comfortable picking her up. So I want to get her spayed.

As far as the kittens though I see they play with each other a lot and I'm concerned of what it will do to them psychologically if I separate them now or soon.

When is the appropriate time to give these kittens away? I'm trying to see if I can give them away in pairs but thats hard to do.

Also whats the appropriate way to handle separating from their mother? Should I deal with the mother first then reunite them for a couple days or just do it all at once?

I can imagine it'll be strange for all since all they have known is a patio, me, their mother and each other.

I appreciate the help.

The pic is actually from a week and a half ago I think but they look pretty much the same just a tad bigger and more rambunctious!!
