After a while they became more interested in the toys than biting/clawing me. Kittens don't like to cuddle because they are all about playing. Everything needs to be chased and pounced on - it's what kittens do! As far as biting goes, when he bites your hand say no loudly or blow in his face, when he stops biting take your hand away. It's important that you immediately give him something that is appropriate to bite, one of his toys will do. This way you will teach him what's okay to bite and what's not. Your kitten will grow out of this behavior. Don't listen to your boyfriend, buy him as many toys as you want!
