Even,
you have what is called a "Brown Patched Mackeral Tabby" - its basically a brown tabby with red tabby mixed in.
Cpt. Jack has arrived safe and sound - big brother Charlie keeps a watchful eye

| hello,my name is lori and i live in MINOT NORTH DAKOTA and whille i'm not a breeder(YET!!!) i'm in school to become a feline vet because i really love cats!!!!!I have two of my own "fur-children" and they are both from the same litter!Their names are nightshade and moonshadow and they have the softest black fur ever!!!And they are both soo sweet and whille it's still very cold here i don't mind it too much becaus of my two fur covered hot water bottles make my bed nice and warm.Iv'e allways wanted to talk to a breeder,i not sure just what kind of cats you breed as i haven't seen any in cat fancy mag.I like reading it because of the medical news it has and as a vet student,it helps!!!I'm PROBALLY going to 70 years old when i finnish vet school though!!!!I'm 51 years old now and iv'e got ALOT of studying ahead of me.lori

HARLEY1960NH (4/25/2008)
we have 2 adult cats they are unrelated, of course, we have friends who wanted cats so we have homes for the kittens. Anyway, we decided to let our cats have a litter before having them spayed/neutered. Female had 3 kittens today and she keeps attcking the dad I had to put the male in the outside hallway with the screen door open for his own safety and he's never been outside before. Obviously I need to get the female and kittens into a closet in a box but how do I keep the male away from her and vice-versa. |
Some mama cats are really protective over their babies when thy're newborns. Neutering the tom is not really the issue in your case, mama cat would act that way with any cat, altered or not. I know because I've raised 2 litters and we had toms and neutered cats with us. I'd just continue to keep daddy cat seperated until the kittens are 5 weeks old. When they're older though, the entire family (mom, dad and kittens!) will actually enjoy hanging out together and raise the family together. Its so cute! You mentioned your concern about the tom never having been outdoors before, but that is rarely a problem. As long as he's not declawed, he should love being outdoors! Our cats all love being outside and do great! Congrats on the new babies and hope all goes well!
Live, and let live. "true profit is measured by quality of life." "We have cats to enhance our lives, we owe it to them to allow them to enjoy theirs."

Hello everyone!
We're new to cat ownership, but we've been in the animal business for 30 years. We would like to get some feedback from everyone about an issue we have. We live by a river and constantly find abandoned kittens and cats. Normally, we take them to the no kill shelter that's not to far away from us, but we have ran into a kitten/cat that is stealing our hearts. We are torn and need some advice. Do we keep the cat? We can't really afford it, but it pains us to take her to the shelter. She has a wonderful personality. We were out on a walk with our dog, Daby and found her at the park. She came right to us meowing like she needed help. Of course, we jumped into action and brought her home as she will not make it on her own in that area. Unfortunately, our house kitty isn't responding very well. She is hissing and making funny noises, like she's trying to dominate the kitten/cat. Therefore, I guess the jackpot question is should we take her to the shelter? Will they ever get along? How do you introduce kittens to each other? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to everyone's responses.

| What you're describing is normal new-cat-in-the-house stuff. Separate the two for now & introduce them slowly and with supervision. Keep the newcomer in a separate room - and btw, take her to a vet for a checkup first before you let her hang out with your existing cat - and rub each cat with a towel, then swap towels so they get used to each other's scents. Watch for games of paws-under-the-door to start up, then let them in the same room for a supervised visit. Hissing, growling, spitting, even mild batting, are OK. Cats play with each other like they're fighting. Ears pinned back, meowing, eyes wide, tail puffed up, are not - those are signs of a serious fight. Separat them if it appears to be a serious fight but ignore the play-fight stuff. Don't forget to send us some pics of your kitties!

Please ignore Hills S/D and Iams in your vet food talk... they really only care about profit and not the welfare of these animals. Horses/cattle are better fit for Purina foods. Cats are strict carnivores that do best on a canned/ or raw food diet ( unless FIV+) FIV+ cats-canned only!.
I honor you for going after a career at your age... that takes guts.
Research the truth about pet food/declawing/ect. BEFORE doing this profession.
Little Big cat.... TheCatSite, ect are good holistic sites. Field/online studies on African/ and european wildcats on diet and behavior may also be good. Domestics are VERY close to these animals they can even interbreed!!!
Honestly IMHO at 51 being a breeder isn't wise- cats can live to be very old and if you die or fall ill.. well I wont go there. Breeding is very $$/ time comsuming. My somali breeder is one i know and he is taxed, lol..
