Hi Kristina & Oliver, it would probably benefit from being outdoors in the summer if you have a good spot for it, even in a pot. You'd have to keep it well watered, it can 'droop' or wilt in a pot in the summer from too much heat and not enough water, and you may well need, as it grows, to transplant to a larger container. If you have space to divide it and actually plant some in the ground, I strongly recommend it, then all you'll have to do is make sure you keep a portion from it potted inside during the winter when the outdoor plant dies back; its a wonderful perennial which will just keep getting bigger and bigger and that way you'll be able to keep your babies well supplied!

Buying catnip is a complete waste of money, besides the stuff you find outside is better grade because the catnip is fresher and the plants are older, you can go to a park/neighbors yard and get some.
Most neighbors probably view the plant as a weed and if you ask you can get LOADS of it, besides being nonnative its very invasive
Catnip is also good for people, it helps with digestion/stress/relaxation issues, you can dry the leaves and use it for tea before bed.
