Right before the terrible storms moved through TN on Friday my indoor cat got out through a door left open by a visitor. I recently moved to a new house in October and I'm afraid that Judy became disoriented by the storm and can't find her way home. I have combed the neighborhood and asked people who were out walking if they had seen her. I have called and called for her. She is an eldery cat (12 years old) but in good health. She has been an indoor cat for all of her life, with an occasional trip to the backyard for grass under my supervision. The thing I feel so terrible about is that I didnt have a collar or tag on her. I have left the back screen door wide open which leads to a screened in patio room, her favorite lounging area.

Please help! What should I do?

Deeply Distraught,

Helen

If you have a picture of her, take it to a copy center and make a little flyer with her picture and your phone number and post copies all around your neighborhood. Knock on doors up and down your street, and wait and hope. Also, call or better yet visit any local animal shelters. Check with local veterinarians, too. Good luck to you. I hope you find her.

I am so sorry. Try renting a humane cat trap and baiting it with tuna or sardines, something really fishy smelling. I bet she is hanging around close by, just afraid to come out. I know this has worked for a couple of people who's indoor kitty escaped. Check area shelters also. Good luck.

Hi Helen, I'm sorry to hear about your cat I agree with putting flyers around and cat traps. My boyfriend's cat got out of the door once, he looked around for days and couldn't find him. It turned out he was hiding under the house next door. I'm not sure if this bit of information will help, but she might be close! Good luck!

Hi, Friend,

Everyone's suggestions are good. Also, and I don't know how far away is your previous home, but kitty might have tried to go back to the old house. It may help to post notices around the old neighborhood.

When she comes back, would you consider a collar, a tag and microchipping?

My heart goes out to you.

Thanks everyone! Great tips and advice. Still no Judy, but I have made a poster and will put it up within the area. Trap with tuna...hmmm...interesting. Thank you so very much for you prayers too. Its funny I have a feeling that she is safe, maybe in a neighbors house. Our old house is 32 miles from here. wow, I hope she didn't try walking there. My ex lives there so that's good incase she shows up. Thank you again everyone! I'm so glad I found this community!

Take care,

Helen

I am so sorry! I hope you find your kitty! I couldn't bare to loose my kitty, I would die. I really hope you find her though, and I would also be careful with the trap and tuna if you do it, my neighbor did that trying to catch a raccoon that was eating and pooping all on his deck and he caught our big fatty Maurice once, and then he caught a skunk. Not so fun to deal with. My heart goes out to you. Good luck!!!

I am so sorry Judy disappeared. It might be possible that she is very close by but is afraid to come out. I would be heartsick if Chester got lost!
