Hi. I've written before about 2 things my cat is doing that are bringing me to thinking maybe we're not well suited for each other. Ever since I got her at 9 mos. old (I will have her 1 year iin May) she has been a biter -- attacking my legs and arms and biting hard enough to cause bleeding. I have tried spraying water in her face, placing her in another room, scolding. Nothing deters. Then about 6 weeks ago she started peeing anywhere but her litter box and attacking more. I've installed the Comfort Feliway diffusers - no results. I took 2 business trips with just 10 days in between and I know she was mad that I was away. A friend came to the house to feed her and play. She won't cat-sit anymore as she was tired of getting bitten.

I have taken Gracie to the doctor for a check up and there is nothing wrong. I leave for work at 7 am and usually return home by 6 pm. She has lots of toys around the house and I play when I get home. She's so loveable at night - she sleeps on my chest or next to me. She cries when I leave for work. She knows the sound of my car and when I pull in the driveway she is crying quite loudly at the front door waiting for me to open it. Some have suggested another cat as a playmate. I'm worried that I'll have 2 cats peeing around my house instead of one! I travel about every 8 weeks for a week or 2 at a time.

Do I have a cat that needs someone around all day? What can I do to stop these biting and peeing issues? I'm really thinking about giving her up which saddens me but I don't know what else to do. I have young nephews that I do not want to experience her biting and friends visiting with children in the near future and don't want to worry about Gracie's behavoir around them. Thanks for your help.

im new this site too but not to owning cats. i am no expert but when one of the cats my parents have started peeing everywhere, we limited her freedom in the house. we kept her in my room at the time and put the litter box in there and food and everything. put the food on the other end of the room from the litterbox. i was in my room a lot and id play with her in there, feed her ... keep her box nice and clean. and when she stoped peeing we let her back out and put the litterbox somewhere easy. then when we were sure that she wasn't peeing everywhere we slowly moved it back to where it was before.

thats something that works for dogs, so we just tried it and it worked. im not sure if she was confused or what ...

about the agression ... i have never had that problem ... unless it was a kitten playing, and from your post that doesn't sound like playing if she is breaking skin. when you leave in the morning do you make an event out of it? was she abandoned when you got her? she could be just nervous about you not coming home. have you tried bitter apple spray for bitting? i know that stoped the cats from chewing speaker wire. you would have to spray it on her as she is attacking you. or find a noise that she doesn't like ... like shaking a plastic bag ... or a clicker so it will scare her everytime she tries to attack you ... praise her when she is calm and laying on you at nite. then she will know for sure that you like that behaviour.

all else fails call your local humane society. they usually have many ideas about rehabilitating animals... that is where we found out about the bitter apple spray.

good luck marmar

im owned by a bengal who sometimes lets me believe i own him :p

I feel for you. I'm about to go on a five day business trip and leave Gizmo in the house with a neighbor playing with her.

I'm of course worried, since she is demanding more attention by the day.

If your cat has been biting for a year, have you done anything to make her stop? Have you said NO loudly and immediately walked away from the animal?

If you have, and the biting continues, then maybe you should find another home for her. I would do so if I had children around the house.

I just reread your message and saw the note about the travel. I would not recommend keeping this cat since you are away for a considerable amount of time.

I waited til I was in a stable job situation with little travel before getting a cat. It sounds as if your girl is angry at being left alone for long periods of time. You and she will probably do better if she was in a home where someone was around for at least part of every day.

Sounds like this cat is extremely lonely. I would recommend another cat but it doesnt sound like you have time so I think I agree with gizmosmom

ii agree, it sounds like the kitty is lonely. I remember when I was at the humane society once, one guy was taking his cat there because he was always on business trips, and the cat started using his bed as a litterbox. When I left for three weeks to go home, my boyfriend took care of my cat, but she pooped outside of her litterbox once. I think your cat misses you

hi i have been reading your post and everyones comments your little sweetie needs her momma she is like a child doing bad things so you will give her the attention she so desperately needs if you cannot give her the attention maybe you should not have a cat until your job changes and you have the time to be with her.

Is she spayed? If not this could be a major factor in why she is doing this. You should get her spayed if she isn't already. Also getting a playmate might help, but I would advise getting a male for her to play with. Then there is less rivalry and competition. Not that females can't get along, but male's are probaly the better choice.

Is the cat De clawed?

De clawed cats can be VERY messed up, or they can be real love bugs reguardless of how they turn out after torture ( it IS torture) its the same as physically amputating all of the first digits of your hands with a pair of dog clippers or a steak knife.

Illegal in 37 countries outside the Us/canada it really better on everyone not to get a cat or to adopt an already de clawed cat if you can't keep it clawed.

If this is the case I hope it isn't. I would seriously look into her quality of life AND your/others physical safety. If she keeps reacting badly to things, she may never be normal again or it may take years to recover and would probably be better off put down

Besides all that look into having her spayed if you haven't done so already. I hope all goes well.
