My cat is an odd one. He's most definitely a mutt, but I think he's part Maine Coon and Part Norwegian. So it might explain some of his behavior. Anywho what he does:
Mahonri from time to time will get up from his napping place and come to me meowing a purrful type meow and start nudging my foot or whatever part of my body he can get at, which is sweet, but sometimes he'll give a little bit of a bite if he doesn't get the attention that he wants. Occasionally he bites too hard. Some other things he does when he wants attention is come into the same room as me, get real close and put his back to me, waiting for me to notice him. Other times he'll knead the couch or blanket and meow at me. Again, these are not distressed meows, just, "Hey, you! Look at me." meows.
The other thing is that he won't sit on my lap. On rare occasions he'll lean up against me if I'm sitting on the couch. One time when I was half asleep, I found him curled up by my stomach under the covers. But when I woke up and he saw that I was awake, he left. I have another cat who is content to sit on your lap even if you don't pet her. I don't quite get it. Wouldn't he feel like he was getting the affection he desired if he just sat on my lap? I do pick him up and pet him and he purrs and I can feel it (but not hear it) but he keeps making like he wants to leave. So I let him leave, but he still wants me to pet him. Is he just one of those cats that likes attention, but doesn't like being held?

| It sounds like that's exactlyt the case! Some cats just don't like to be held or to be lap cats. They are affectionate, but only when they want the attention.

| This sounds a lot like Honey. She never really wants attention when it's convenient. The only time she lets me pick her up and hold her is if I'm standing by the window facing the bird feeders because she gets a better view lol. She never lays in my lap but will chew on my hand and lick my hand to get attention. The only time she gets on top of me is when I'm in bed. For some reason the bed seems to equal cuddle time and it's the only place I can get her to really be cuddly. And then she's really clingy about it. And man, do her "love bites" hurt sometimes. Some cats are just weird like that, in their own quirky way.

| My kitty is the same way. She only wants attention when she wants it. She doesn't like to be picked up or held and she will never sit on a lap. But she will walk into the kitchen when I'm cooking or cleaning and start rubbing and licking my legs, meowing and asking for attention. Of course I stop what I'm doing and give her the attention. Sometimes she just wants a treat. And of course if I give her a treat the dog comes running looking for her treat also. Those girls really run the house. At bed time she gets on the bed next to me and cuddles and lets me pet her and she purrs. This only lasts for about a half hour. I think she gets too hot in the bed and she jumps down and goes to her napping spot in front of my full length mirror. Then in the morning after my shower I'll call "Ok girls, time for breakfast". And both kitty and doggie come running.

| I know a lot of cats who won't sit on laps, but like to sit near you or only be with you on their terms. My cats will come when called and check the situation out and if the idea of being held or sitting on my lap is currently appealing to them -- then they stay. When Rusty wants attention he is like a living teddy bear -- best cuddler ever! He rolls onto his back and kicks his feet up into the air while you rub his belly.

| My Siamese, Bandit, comes up to me on the bed and gives me a look I know very well. He wants to suck on my left arm. He won't do it with the right arm; it has to be the left. I think he likes to nurse on my arm. He was given up for adoption at the humane society I think for this reason because the previous owners said he didn't get along with their granddaughter. Either the granddaughter was a b**** or it was the arm sucking thing. No matter to me. I don't mind as long as Bandit's nails are clipped because he likes to knead as well. Then he falls asleep on my arm and remains there for hours. Now how can anyone deprive a kitty of that. The granddaughter must be a "b" and with a capital at that.

| My boys, Loki & Gabe have to be in the same room with me. Especially the bathroom (so much for privacy!), Loki Being the snuggle bug that he is, is underfoot trying help, or see what's 'in it for him", Gabe just likes to watch and occaisionally tries to "help" I have "special" blankets in the living room that are deep pile fleecy throws that they all love to knead, and tossing it over my legs is an open invitation for Loki to jump up and snuggle. But every morning before going to work I get the "guilts" Loki gets especially cuddly, giving me cheek to cheek kisses, and just generally cuter than normal, like "is wherever your going better than this?"I explain I HAVE to go to keep him in the lifestyle he's become accustomed to, but he doesn't understand or care. All he knows is his napping buddy leaves him for most of the day, and he's quite happy when i come home.
My cats own my house they just permit me to live there. Only cat lovers know the luxury of fur-coated, musical hot water bottles that never go cold." - Susanne Millen
