| We just adopted a kitty and he has peed on our bed twice. Can anyone tell me why he would do this and what I can do to prevent it from happening again? Just a little info. We have an older cat that is 16 and 2 dogs. He seems to get along just fine with all of them so I am not sure what the problem could be. Thanks!

| Is the kitten spayed/neutered? While the kitten is young, it is possible that the kitten may have a urinary infection - I'd make a vet appointment and have him/her checked out. If the kitten has no UTI, then confine it to one room with its own litter pan for a week. You may need a 2nd pan if you are only using one pan. Is the litter pan in a quiet place? Is the kitten being harassed by the other animals when it goes? All of these things might be the reason your kitten is using your bed - its safer. Do a one-by-one elimination and see if you can figure it out.

| How long ago did you "just adopt" this kitty? If it's only been a few days, he might just be confused and overwhelmed and not remember where the litter box is. You may be better off to confine him to a bathroom for a few days and gradually expand his territory.

| I don't think he is being harassed by the other pets. He peed on the bed while one of the dogs and the old cat were up on the bed sleeping with me. We did confine him to the bathroom for the first week. And gradually moved the litter box to the basement. It is a quiet place. There are two litter boxes in that room side by side.

| Ok so it was a week ago that we "just adopted" him. In my other post I did say that we kept him confined and gradually moved his litter box. He has not been spayed yet. He is only 12 weeks. Not sure how soon I can get that done. I will have the vet come at the end of the week though and check him out. Thanks!

| Try adding a littter box back on the main floor (or even to both main floor & upper floor if possible) and see if that helps. 12-week-old kitties get busy playing and try to "hold it" as long as possible - just like little children sometimes do - and it might just be that he can't wait to get down to the basement. As he grows older and gets more accustomed to his new home, you can try removing the extra boxes again.

| Kittens can be neutered as young as 2 months old if 2 lbs in weight. I prefer to do them at 3-4 months old, so your kitten can be done now.
