My cat named Duncan was 1 of my best kitties ever! At the beginning of this month, he went outside to hunt. It passed the 4th of July and no sign of him! We don't know where he is. My papa went to the pound to check if someone caught him and took him there. No sign of him there either! He's never been gone this long before! He's afraid of loud things so it worries me even MORE because it was the 4th of july not to long ago! I'm SO worried about him! I don't know what I'd do without him! Duncan please come back!

Put a basket of dirty laundry, particularly socks and undergarments on your porch, if he's lost and anywhere in the area, he'll smell your scent and follow it home. The fireworks do tend to scare the daylights out of our animal friends. (We had a collie who was lost for nearly a week because of fireworks, but she eventually found her way home). Definitely file a report with your animal control agencies that you've lost your cat, bring a picture. Hopefully he has a collar and an ID tag, so if he is found you'll get a call.

My cats own my house they just permit me to live there.

It's possible he got stuck in someone's garage. Considering the time he went missing, he may have wandered into an open garage, and the people may have left to go on a trip for the 4th of July, and closed the door not knowing the cat was inside! I say this because a friend of mine once lost her cat. He was gone for 12 days and they thought he must be dead, but then he came home! When he returned he was incredibly skinny, and he had been fat when he left. They thought he must have been fastened in a garage or shed. Fortunately the kitty was able to return to his former good health. You might consider asking neighbors to check their sheds or garages in case Duncan might have been fastened in one by mistake. Also, be sure you post his picture! If he didn't have a collar someone may have taken him in assuming he was a stray. Also, if he comes back, you may want to consider making him an indoor kitty so this doesn't happen again!

My heart goes out to you. My cat was lost for a few hours once and I nearly went crazy. I can only imagine how you feel having not seen your cat in a week! Hopefully Duncan is okay and will make it home safely very soon.

I hope Duncan comes home safe soon.

But for the future:

1. Be sure he is neutered - if he's not, he's out looking for females to breed with and may be in fights with other males.

2. Keep him under supervision - do not let him just go out on his own - far too many dangers.

3. Train him to a harness/leash if you have to let him out or build/buy a cat enclosure for his safety and your piece of mind.

Try posting some flyers around the neighborhood with Duncan's description, and a phone # where you can be reached.  If you have a picture of him, see if you can add the picture to the flyers.

Post the flyer in your local pet food stores (Petco, Petsmart, etc), see if the shelters in your area have a MIA bulletin board (many do), and post the flyer on their bulletin boards.

Keep checking with the shelters, and keep checking your local area.  This past Monday morning, a lady rang my doorbell, saying her cat was on my patio cover.  Sure enough, he was up there.  She said he had been missing since the night of the 4th.

Above all, keep looking!
