| I have two cats and they both were excellent "litterers", now things have changed we recently moved to Puerto Rico which as you can image has broght on MANY CHANGES. 1) New House
2) Heat (we have no AC)
3) New litter box
4) Food (not a whole lot of variety, I;ve had a hard time finding her old food) One of the cats is OK but the other is having several simptoms the last 4 month (gee it's been that long?) Reoccurring skin outbreaks (ACNE like) around the back of the head and the neck.
Urinating and defecating on the floor close to the litter box. She occasionally uses the box but the exception more then the rule.
She gets really grouchy, hisses at us and her little sister. We have tried the vet (who pissed me off multiple times in one single visit), changing food, moving the litter box etc.
At this point I think the ACNE might be caused by the heat but I don't know. The litter stuff I don't know. Any suggestions?

| It could be readjustment problems; some cats take relocation harder than others, and with changes as big as your cat has encountered, this could very well make it worse. You didn't say how old you cat is, because older cats often have a more difficult time readjusting. Is there perhaps another vet in the area that you can consult? Regarding the heat: if you haven't already done so, try purchasing some fans to circulate the air and provide some degree of cooling. The food issue: PetsMart and PetCo both offer on-line ordering services, and you can have the food shipped to you. (Granted, it costs a bit more, but it may be worth it.) Also, many pet food companies offer similar services.

| Is she spayed? The symptoms sound like she's in heat. Have you tried putting out another litterbox or two? You should have 3 litterboxes for 2 cats, to avoid trouble. Some cats don't like to share litterboxes, or refuse to do #1 and #2 in the same box.

| I think your cats are stressed and feeling sick from this move. I imagine it's a drastic change for them -- new kinds of food, new house, the heat..... they are going to take some time to adjust and feel better. I would make them as comfortable as possible and give them time to adjust. Changing a cat's food can make them sick until their system adjusts, that's why when you switch you should introduce the new feed gradually. Are your cat food dishes plastic? Many cats get acne from plastic dishes -- I switched my cats to glass dishes. It was fun shopping for a pretty water bowl for them. I think it's just going to take time for them and you to adjust to your new surroundings.
