Hi everyone!
I just adopted a two year old female tuxedo cat from the animal shelter. I work there, so I know she has received good vet care and quality food. Anyway, since we've brought her home, she's had very runny poop (sometimes almost liquid). I haven't seen any blood or worms.
She has been eating a TON, and I gave her wet food her first day home (Friday night). We feed our cats Iams Sensitive Stomach because my other cat has some poop issues with cheaper brands.
Is this just her adjusting to the new food cold turkey?
Thanks!

| Hi Beezer and Buxkley - Most likely the new kitty is just stressed out and getting used to the food. It's especially common with older cats to get diarhhea when they go to a new home, just because it's harder for them to adjust to a new place. The diarrhea should calm down within a week and if not, it may be signs of something else. The something else's could range from pretty much anything. I don't know what your shelter tests for but diarhhea could be a sign of FIV or Leukemia, but both of those are often tested by shelters. It could also be an intestinal infection which are easy to treat with antibiotics. I think the best thing to do would be to look back at her while she was in the shleter and figure if she had any problems while she was there. If not, then its probably stress and new food. If she did have problems, then it may be something else to look into. Possibly even take a bag of the shleter food home and mix it in with the new food until she adjusts.

| When I change the food sometimes they react like that. I have always hear you shouldn't give them something different. You should mix their new food with their previous food. Changing the proportions till only remains the new food. And then they go to a new place they can get stressed, and that make them like that also. So it's better to give them their previous food the first days. I wish he gets better

Does your cat have a huge wet area surrounding her rear? My 3yr old spade female cat recently developed a huge wet area around her anus and up the base of her tail. She doesnt seem stressed out or in pain.
