Cat Genie! It runs around $300, but for what it does it's worth it! My cat took to it pretty fast. I haven't had to scoop litter in ages which saves me lots of time. CG uses reusable granules that get washed everyday so no more buying & carrying huge tubs of litter into the house and breathing in that gross litter dust. There are some great videos of the CatGenie in action on their website, www.catgenie.com

I bought one of those Littermaids 3 years ago because I thought it would be easier.  First, Jadzia was terrified of the noise (they say it's quiet-it isn't) so I had to keep it shut off and turn it on after she when.  Also, she kept kicking litter onto the tracks, and since it was clump litter, I had to literally chisel it out,  and if she went right in the middle sometimes the grater would just stop in the middle so I had to scoop it out.  As you can tell, I found it more of a pain in the butt than it's worth.

Sometimes, as much as we all hate litter boxes, technology isn't always better.

Good luck with your decision!

My Missy has a ScoopFree automatic litter box, which we both love.  I purchased the permanent litter pan and use the Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Senior crystals.  The prepackage litter pan repalcements are a bit pricey.

The litter box is super quiet and does require cleaning at each litter change, but well worth the money.

Hallelujah we finally have someone who's tried the Genie! I've been waiting for someone here to try it. It is really quite pricey though I've seen a few ads offer to cut the price in half.

The Litter Robot is almost universally liked by everyone who's ever tried it, or at least written a review for it. I do wish they'd update the look of it somehow make it look a little more modern and a little less like a Death Star or like some of the other big bulky "HiTech" items of the late Seventies and early eighties.

My cats own my house they just permit me to live there.

We have had 3 littermaids total in the past and was looking into the cat genie but after it was all said and done a good scoop or two a day and changing the whole litter once a month works the best here .   We buy the surgical plastic gloves to do the scooping with if you don't want your fingers too close to the poops.  You can save some cash

I've been using the Scoop Free auto litterbox (this is the purple one, http://www.scoopfree.com/) for almost a year now with no problems.  I do have to say at first, one of my cats was deathly scared of it, so I had to keep my old litter box out while he adjusted to it.

I clean out the poop once a week, which I find way easier than scooping 1-2x per day.  Speaking of which, I also use the LitterLocker (http://www.amazon.com/Petmate-22501-LitterLocker-Microban-Planet/dp/B0009EXMFM) to put the waste into.  This is a great product for anyone with cats, no matter what kind of litter box they are using.  After the first week with a new tray, I scoop the poop and remove any saturated crystals and replace with fresh ones.  Then, the following week I dump the entire tray and replace with fresh crystals.  Then, the following week I replace the entire tray.   I do agree that some poop can get stuck to the rack, but you can just use the litter scooper to scrap it off.  I have this down to a science and really love it.  What I really like is if I go out of town for a day or so, I don't have to worry about the litter box.  They say 1 tray for 1 cat is good for 1 month (these cost $15.99 at Petsmart).  Since I have 2 cats, 1 tray is good for about 2 weeks, give or take.  The tray itself is carboard'ish with a coating over it.  If you refill the crystals after 2 weeks, you can make the tray itself last for a month.  Granted, sometimes I think it's just easier to swap an old tray out with a new one.

Anyway, I love my scoop free litter box!  I even spray painted it red to match my house.  (The purple is kind of obnoxious!)

Thanks for listening everyone!

Cheers,

Krissy
