i don't know about you, but my cat seems nervous before a thunder storm hits. it's really hard to explain what she does because i know my cat so well i can tell she is nervous. (she doesn't do much but sit there with a nervous look) i don't know if she just hates storms or what is going on. Please Help

I had a cat who was very afraid of thunder.  She'd sit huddled up and you could just tell she was miserable.  If you tried to pick her up, she'd growl at you - sometimes that was how I verified that what I heard was thunder!  We used to call her the Growlometer.

She got so afraid that she'd growl sometimes at hard rain with no thunder, and she didn't want to be in the living room because you could hear the echoes down the chimney.

The only thing I can tell you is to make sure she can always get to her "safe place."  I had a huge closet and kept the cat carrier open in the floor of that closet, and I encouraged her to go to the cat carrier when she was frightened.  Once she was in there, I'd leave her alone and she would settle down.  If your kitty doesn't have a "safe place", see if you can help her establish a quiet, dark place she can always get to.

I have never had a cat that was scared or thunder storms but my aunt's dog was. He would shake like crazy and hid somewhere, either behind the rocking chair, in the bath tub, or by the fish tank. So I agree with giving your cat a safe place.

My two girls do the same thing before a storm....they always know before we do what is coming.  They are very clingy and want to be held during the storm.

My cats have never been afraid of storms before, but the last few times it has stormed Stella has been acting different.  THe last time it stormed real bad ALL night long.  I mean it was really loud thunder! She kept wanting to lay between us in the bed and she never does that.  I don't think she slept all night.  She did not really seem nervous but she does not normally lay between my boyfriend and I and that night she did.  It was a really bad night and was still thundering the next morning until about 10am.  Poor Stella!!

The Growlometer's (see previous post above) sister lived with us too and would not have been frightened of the devil himself.  If she got nervous during a storm, I went and hid in the closet!

Generally, none of my cats seem to mind thunderstorms, but when the tornado sirens go off -- all of us (except for my husband who has to go outside to look) HEAD FOR THE BASEMENT!

Once in the basement we all huddle together!

Jadzia used to get real nervous before a thunder storm but she hasn't for a few years now.  Maybe because she 14 and seen many thunderstorms it just doesn't bother her anymore.  Now she just wants to stay really close to me (I must be the Great Protector!).  However, Kahlua, who's not quite 2 yet, absolutly goes mental!  She runs all over the house meowing loud until the first thunder clap, then she's under the couch for the rest of the storm!

Phyllis, the Growlometer, did eventually get where she didn't notice them as she became a senior.  I think her hearing faded and she just didn't realize.

I meant to post this earlier, but a lot of things have been going on. Anyway, I remember a few years ago Cat Fancy had a story of a cat who was a storm predictor. She would go nuts and run down into the basement if a storm came near, even if it couldn't be seen yet. She wouldn't come up until the storm was gone. She was so reliable, her owners didn't need to check the weather report if they saw her heading for the basement. I think one time her owners went to the basement with her, and thus survived a tornado. Though the cat has been gone several years, they still miss having their own little storm predictor. I gather her replacement isn't sensitive to storms.

Some cats are more special than others.
