I think Baby Kitty and I had been together for two or three years and I was renting a house in KCMO. It was an old house with a garage that leaned a little to the left so I never parked my car in it. My goodness it still had cord wiring and the elderly landlord told me he fixed all of the windows right before we moved in, he chalked them shut . I was a cocktail waitress then and usually stayed up until 3 or 4 am. This one weekend I decided to re-chalk the tub and sink areas in the bathroom so I went and bought the necessary items and began my task around 1 am or so. Baby Kitty was always so helpful then, she would sort out the newspaper all over the living room by sitting and running her front paws like she was on a tread mill until they were everywhere. What a mess. She would also sit or sleep in the warm laundry if I didn't fold it right away like she was telling me to do my chores. Well, I was half way through the bath tub and Baby jumped up to lend a hand. Of course I told her no no no you can't be up here and shooed her off. A few minutes passed and I look over my shoulder and see Baby sitting there with her head tilted a little with foam dripping out of her mouth. Crap! I scooped her up and was freaking out while wiping her mouth, then I opened it real wide to see how much of the chalking she got into. My vet was a nice old man and his practice was real close to the house so I called him frantically and these were my exact words, "Doctor, G. my kitty swallowed some chalk." HE HANG UP ON ME are you kidding, why would he hang up when I need his help? I called back and was told he had no time for foolishness. I stopped for a second and understood how he misinterpreted what I said in the first place and I tried again, "I was chalking my bathtub, she got into the chalking, you know chalking." He met us at the office and checked her out. She got a little shot and was all better by the next day. I was so embarrassed then at 19, now it's kind of a silly memory. If anyone else has a story about thier kitty's life I bet it would help a little to share it. We all have come together because of a very sad time in our lives. I feel like for me, I can numb my own pain for a little while if I share some of the times in our lives together that I don't want to forget.

What a cute story Downtown Kitty, I hope it made you smile telling it. A few years ago I had a cat named Rocky, he was a big orange tomcat and he was my special boy. Rocky was an indoor/outdoor cat, he loved the great outdoors (much to my dismay) and all my neighbors knew him. One Sunday night he didn't come home (he was always home at night) and when he still wasn't home by Wednesday afternoon I was frantic. As I was pacing my kitchen floor trying to decide what to do my phone rang. It was a neighbor from up the street. Apparently another lady from the neighborhood was looking for her cat and had set traps out. She described a large, male, orange, extremely ornery "stray" cat that she had trapped to my neighbor, who knew it had to be my Rocky. The neighbor gave me her phone number and I immediately called her only to find out that she had already found a foster home for the cat! I got the phone number for the foster home, called and explained to the woman that I thought she had my cat and could I come over and see him? Luckily, she was very understanding and told me to come right over. (She was only two blocks away from me!!) I can't tell you how relieved I was when I walked into the room where they had him and saw my sweet boy sleeping in the sunshine. I called his name, he looked up and came running to me with a big, goofy smile on his face. Apparently, he hadn't been worried at all!

| MC (short for Male Cat) was my husband's first-ever pet. MC was a BIG longhaired stray cat who adopted my husband, who up til then thought that he hated cats. Alas, we soon discovered, MC was FIV+ and also kept having problems with stopped-up anal glands, making him a frequent visitor to the vet's. MC was a very gentle cat who loved attention, and he was a big favorite at the vet's - the technicians spent lots of time playing with him whenever he was there. And when my husband bought a cat carrier for him, he thought that he should buy a carrier worthy of a small horse! The carrier he brought home was huge and actually had wheels on the bottom. As MC's FIV progressed, he developed a tumor on his forehead that defied diagnosis. We left him with the vet's one day for an X-ray. When we came to pick him up, I discovered one of the technicians' favorite games to play with MC - they would put MC on top of the carrier, give it a push, and away he'd go, flying down the hall spreadeagled on top of the carrier! He loved it. Both MC and my husband are gone now, but I treasure their memories - especially the famous fearless flying kittycat!

| Sadie loves to be outside Since Coco loves being outside we thought Sadie would also become an inside/outside cat. Sadie is too young to be outside alone so someone will take both cats out so they can play. Well on this year's father's day Sadie was crying at the door so I picked her up and called for Coco. Sadie was never any trouble because if she even tried to run away Coco would always stop her by getting in the way, which was so cute to watch. But on this day Sadie decided that she wanted to climb one of the big oak trees in my backyard. We tried to stop her but she went up and up. We got my dad's 30 ft ladder but Sadie was at least 40 more feet up the tree (I was at this point terrified) . Sadie was at the very top of this giant oak and was too scared to come down. We didn't know what to do. After about 30 minutes of thinking what we could do to get Sadie down one of our neighbors was shooting off fireworks. After the second firework Sadie was so scared that she started to come down. She finally came down and we brought her inside. About twenty minutes of Sadie being inside she was crying to go out. Silly cat. I can now say that I don't take Sadie out without one other person.

"The really great thing about cats is their endless variety. One can pick a cat to fit any kind of decor, color scheme, income, personality, mood. But under the fur, whatever color it may be, there still lies, essentially unchanged, one of the world's free souls." Eric Gurnery

Downtown kitty (7/7/2009) We have an island kitchen and Baby sat and watched me cook a lot. We started calling it The Cooking Class. Now if she'd only cooked for you! Ha! Seriously, you two could have auditioned for the Next Food Network Star challenge - you'd have been much more entertaining than some of the contestants they've had and I'm sure you'd produce much better food!

I guess the "great indoors" can be dangerous after all!LOL What a crazy story!
