If its slightly bigger then that cat its definetly not a month old.It sounds like it might be 4-6 weeks old but its hard to tell without looking at a pic.Even if you find one the internet that looks like him/her show us just so we can get a feel of what she/he looks like.

Oh sorry, when I said 3 to 4 months I was talking about Ebony because I thought that was the cat. But if the cat is bigger than Ebony when you first got her and if she doesn't have blue eyes (because when kitten eyes first open they are dark blue) then it is older than one month.

Honestly, I think you should wait several weeks before you try to trap this kitten, just to make sure it's had enough time with its mama - and to give you time to be sure this isn't already someone's kitty!  It would be terrible to trap the kitten and claim it for yourself and meanwhile someone else is grieving because their kitty's gone, and just because it's an outdoor cat does not mean it isn't very much loved and wanted by someone.

Watch out for it and see what you can find out about it.  If it does appear over the next few weeks that this is indeed a homeless kitten and it's old enough to be separated from its mama, then you can use the trap you described and try to give it a home with you.

The only pictures I've posted are ones of Ebony, my cat. I don't have any pictures of the kitten I found the other day. Sorry for the confusion.
The kitten that I found has greenish-yellow eyes. I think it's a little bit bigger than Ebony was when I found her. I posted a picture of Ebony around the time that I found her in an earlier post. It's the one that's not in my signiture. She was starving when we found her. I could see her bones, so she may look younger than she really was at the time.

This is my cat, Ebony. She is one year old. She is the best cat in the whole world!

It's very difficult to tell how old a cat is when it's a stray, especially if it's possibly malnourished. I had a stray that I adopted a few years ago, when he showed up on my doorstep he was very thin and very sick with a chronic upper respiratory condition. He was very small and I thought he was about 3 - 4 months old, you can imagine my surprise when the vet told me that he was about one year old! Nutrition plays a big part in their growth, if the kitty isn't getting proper nutrition then his growth will be stunted. I agree that you should wait a little before trying to trap the kitten. You want him/her to have as much time with his Mommy as possible and it's possible that he belongs to someone. If you feel he's thin you could put some food out for him if you're so inclined.

I agree with hvv, when I got Coco as a stray the man who's house she was under thought she was four weeks old and she was four months old.

I've decided that I'm not going to try to trap the kitten.

This is my cat, Ebony. She is one year old. She is the best cat in the whole world!
