Maybe the kitten was lost for a few days and looked starving but was reunited with it's owner or mommy cat.

How old do you think my cat, Ebony, is in this picture?

I always thought that she was about 4 or 5 weeks old. Not including her tail, she was about 10-12 inches long.

This is my cat, Ebony. She is one year old. She is the best cat in the whole world!

Four to five week old kittens are small, Ebony is more than a month old. Maybe about a little less than three months.

When Tommy was a small kitten I took him for his first vet appointment and the vet asked me how old he was. I already knew what day he was born so I was confident of his age, but then the vet checked his teeth and confirmed that I was right. Apparently it's easy to narrow down the age of a cat during their first year of life by looking at their teeth, they will keep their baby teeth until about 3-4 months of age. You can also tell a lot by looking at a cats coat. Kittens got the fuzzy and un-defined coats and usually it stays that way until they are 4 -5 months.

And if you know cats REALLY well then you'll be able to notice the difference between the shape and look of their face (ie -males may develop larger jowls). Right now my youngest kitten is 4 months old, and in comparison to my 11-month old cat the fact shapes are very different because my youngest has not quite developed his defining features, that usually comes around 6 months old.

I think she looks like she is around 8-12 weeks in this picture. Her eyes have already started changing color and she has that cute ears and legs are too big for her body look. Also, her fur looks sleek. A 4 week old kitten still has fluffy fur, they are still very small and wobbly when they walk and her eyes would be blue. If she was malnourished her growth would be stunted so it's possible that she's older than 12 weeks in that picture, but to me she looks like she's somewhere between 8-12 weeks.

Ebony looks like a very sweet girl!

Here is a kitten age progression from 1 day to 10 weeks from Alley Cat Allies. I hope you find it helpful. Also the website has tips on how to socialize and trap feral kittens. Best of luck
