| Hi! I'm thinking of adopting a Ragdoll in the near future. Does anyone have one and what do you think of the Ragdoll behaviour? I've heard that they have more of doglike personality. Is this true?

| Absolutely! Harley, the big white cat in the middle photo below, is our Raggie. He's also in the first photo, taken when he was about 4 months old. We got him from a shelter and didn't know anything about Ragdolls - didn't even know that he is a Ragdoll! He's very loving and gentle, yet playful and mischievous, and does indeed act like a dog. He chews things - cellphone charger, leather shoes, wood furniture all have been victims of Harley's teeth! He loves to lay on his back with his paws tucked up under his chin. Doesn't like to be in water but loves to play with it - he's dipped his paws in my bath water more than once. Harley also loves to be near us. He's not a lap cat and doesn't like to be held much, but is usually found close to one of us. If we're in different rooms, he checks on each of us. Of the three cats we have, Harley is the most intelligent. He taught himself to open doors! First he'd reach a paw under the door and paw til it opened, then he learned how to stretch up and pull the lever down. Loves the neighborhood kids too - he'll sit in the window and watch them play, and perks up whenever he hears them outside. They come up and pet him through the screen, and he's visibly disappointed when they go away. I think you'll enjoy having a Raggie, they're big beautiful kitties and lots of fun. I call Harley my Dennis-the-Menace kitty - always in trouble but you just cannot help but love him.

Hi, I have had many cats and my Ragdoll (4 1/2 yrs old) is one of my favorites. She is the only cat that we have in the house. She is so lovable and sweet. She cuddles with me, my husband, and our 9 year old son. She loves to be brushed, she purrs constantly and when we pick her up to hold her, she goes limp and lets us carry her like a human baby (that's her name BTW).
Ragdolls will get larger than most breeds. The average altered female can weigh between 10-15 lbs. Altered males can weigh 15-20 lbs.
Here is a post I listed earlier today on a different topic:
I have had cats since I was 5 yrs old; I am now 41. I have been a strong believer on annual Vet visits ever since I was a teenager. My attitude is now turning. I have been to two different Veterinarians in the past 7 months (due to a geographical move).
The two new doctors have managed to turn my attitude within the first 10 minutes of the appointment. I currently have a 4 1/2 yr old, female, spayed Ragdoll. I do research on all animal breeds before I purchase a new family memeber to make sure that our life together is a great fit, and it is 100%.
When the Veterinarian says he can't easily feel my cat's ribs and argues with me that my cat is overweight and must lose 2 pounds (even though my Ragdoll is a large breed) I say, "Goodbye." Then he implies that if it is not done, my cat will suffer health issues. By the way, I only feed my animals top of the line weight management ($$$) cat or dog food. They are healthier than I am.
I have called breeders, top professors of Animal Science from the University of Michigan and the University of Florida, and I have searched the internet. The answer is basically the same. The average weight for a healthy altered female Ragdoll is between 10 lbs and 15 lbs. My cat weighs 12 lbs. I have also been told that a small bowl of cat food can be left out for the cat, because a cat will nibble small amounts of food up to 14 times a day.
The veterinarians that have my feathers ruffled only want me to feed my baby 1/4 cup of food a day no more that 1/2 cup a day.
I am an experienced and responsible pet owner. I have owned many different breeds and many mixed bloodline cats (as well as dogs). I take all of my pets health just as seriously as I take my own health. Every cat breed is different and you can't put all in the same group. A Turkish Angora (which I have also owned) is not in the same weight category.
Makes me wonder...

I have two ragdolls and have never looked back. The truth is, I wasn't a cat person until I moved away from home (I have always loved dogs). My first cat was a ragdoll and I fell instantly in love. He is the perfect cat...never scratches, always uses the litter box, is calm and goes limp when I pick him up. Plus, he loves kids! Stitch was so loved, a couple years later we got a second ragdoll. Now Wibbles and Stitch greet me at the door every day when I come home, love a good belly-rub now and then and really show how much they love me with endless head butts and leg rubs.
I would say that now, reading breed descriptions, most ragdoll traits describe my cats perfectly. Of course, every cat is different and has their own personalities...for example, ragdolls are supposed to be quiet...Stitch and Wibbles can both be quite talkative.
I would definitely recommend ragdolls for first time cat owners as they're so easy to care for and show lots of love. Plus, they're beautiful!!

| I own one Ragdoll male. I done a lot of research on Ragdolls so when I found my 'little' boy I just had to have him! The other comments here really fit the Ragdoll trait perfectly! My boy Luha is 8 1/2 months and already about 12 pounds so they are a large cat. He to goes limp when picked up, loves his cuddles, belly rubs and especially loves grooming time!! He will lay on my lap on his back for his brush time and is easy when it comes to trimming claws and checking teeth. He loves play time and yes... just like a dog he plays fetch and often is found carrying the favorite toy of the day around with him. He is with us all the time when at home to 'help' - even the vacuuming is fun! As said before though.. all are a little different and Luha does come with a bit of an attitude towards strangers (must watch all bare skin or it will be nipped!) but other then this he is just perfect. He is also quite vocal especially around dinner time and cuddle time! He travels perfectly and was a breeze to train on a cat harness and leash. He has a tendance to get up to trouble i.e. playing with an entire roll of toilet paper and spreading it around the house, "cleaning out" the closet to find his food and attempt to open the aluminium cans, he will pick things up and 'hide them' in the bag to go to the rubbish, he loves to play with any fruit left out - we spent hours looking for what was a bowl full of cherries! They hate being alone so may I suggest 2 raggies if not just another cat if possible? I am about to get a new baby girl Ragdoll as Luha really doesnt handle the lonely times all that well. He is at the door when we leave and get home and meows in between. They are the most loving cats I have ever come across in my lifetime FULL of all types of cats. They have great colours and big blue eyes! Let us know how you go!!!

Hi Kate! What a cutie!!!
What color/point is Luha? He's similar to my Wibbles (who is a lynx point) but much, much darker.

| Hi Jingles400! Thanks! Luha seems to also know just how cute he is! lol He is a Blue Point - he was about 4 months in those pictures (he will be 1 on the 11th March )and I have just been much to lazy to update them despite the abundance of pictures I have of him : ) I will update them for you as soon as I can (I have a four month baby girl right now - blue point! That said he is a lot darker now and the white fur on his body has a nice cream - light brown tinge through it. They are such a beautiful breed! Do you have any pictures of your two??
