I'just learned another use for catnip besides kitty crack, mosquito repellant! rub fresh leaves on your skin and the skeeters will leave you alone (your feline companions won't but that's besides the point!)

Nice tip! I bought a bag of the stuff months ago and neither cat seems to crazy about it, but I don't want it to go to waste

Do you think it would work if you rubbed the dry herb on you and maybe carried around a pouch of the stuff? I have only dry because I can't grow anything to save my life...or the cats figure out some way to get to it and mow the plant! What a great tip though! My fiance suffers so bad from mosquito bites. They are really attracted to something in his blood more than the average person, and the smell of catnip is far more pleasant than deet!

Thanks for the tip.

I doubt rubbing the dried and ground herb on you would work as I think it's the oils in the plant that is the repellent. But I can't see why using a muslin teabag to carry it in like those Off fans, wouldn't work.
Maybe if you made a strong tea out of the dried catnip and spritzed it on the body, or just sipped a catnip iced tea (it's part of the mint family, so it could be refreshing on a hot day)

I love catnip tea. But I usually only drink it when I'm not around anyone because it makes your breath kinda smelly for a day or two (even with brushing and rinsing and flossing!). I also enjoy sucking and chewing on a fresh catnip leaf too. I guess that's why I'm known as the Cat Lady in my neighborhood!
