Hi yall,
I have a 2 year old female spayed cat and she's stopped pooping in her litterbox. This started about a month ago and hasn't stopped. I've taken her to the Vet and he has checked her out and she has isn't sick or anything. He says it is more than likely a behavioral problem. He suggested we try and change kitty litters from what we were using to a scoopable brand. There are so many on the market that I didn't know which one to choose. So I chose the one that Arm & Hammer makes that all natural and I know it's made from corn too. It's also biodegradable and clumps really well.
She does use her litter pan to urinate in but not poop anymore. I'm at wits end on what to do with her and her doing this. She seems to be doing it lately on purpose. I had been getting after her and spraying her in the face with water and then putting her in her litterbox. But I found out this was the wrong way to go about this.
Here's an example... This morning I came out of my bedroom and apparently she had just finished pooping in the corner by the door to the hallway and she just looked at me to see what i would do. I called her and she looked at me and ran like we were playing try and catch me if you can.
I had read this morning to just pick up the poop on a paper towel and put it and her into her litterbox together and that this might stop the situituationt nope it didn't help any so far.
It's like she's mad at me for some reason and I have no clue why. She just seems to be pooping outside her litterbox on purpose.
Any suggestions or helping me with this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks yall!

Ok, some ideas..... get a second litter box, some cats get picky and want to pee and poop in different places. Get a big box, in case she isn't comfortable, I use Rubbermaid or Sterilite storage boxes. My cats love them! Some people cut out an entrance, I don't, cats love to jump into things!! If there is one place she poops the most, put the second box there.

Have there been any changes? New place, new friend, new furniture, new pet, new friend with pet, anything at all??? Cats stress out sooooo easily. You may even have petted someones pet and brought that scent home with you, it can be that easy!!! If you are feeling real stressed, she could be picking up on that. Take a deep breath, believe this too will end!

Look at it this way, poop is a lot easier to pick up than pee!

You don't have to be crazy to be my friend,   but it helps!!!

we also have 2 litterboxes for Einstein, because he decided to pee in the corner of the landing on the staircase.
After we gave him a2.box, we do not have a probleme anymore.

I agree about the second litter box. Out in nature, cats never use the
same hole for both eliminations. It's their nature to wee-wee in one
spot, then shop around for another place to poo.

With one notable exception in years past ... I was digging a hole in the garden to plant a bulb when my Siamese slipped in front of me and squatted in the lovely hole I'd prepared, leaving me scarcely enough time to remove my hand. I'm sure he appreciated my thoughtfulness!

OH, Mythkitty, I thought I had spoiled kitties!  But I promise you that I have not yet dug a hole for any of mine.

Walter likes to watch me clean the litter box and then go right in a make a pee just looking up at me.

Has anyone seen the feline pine scoop litter or do your cats use it?

I used to use Feline Pine but we didn't really like it too much.  The stuff has a strong pine odor and turns to a powdery substance when wet.  We liked World's Best but changed to Tidy Cats recently due to $$.  Not too bad!

Coco likes to watch me clean out the litterbox and use it after I'm done too! Silly cat!
