I use a 2:1 mix of scoop (2p) and clay (1p). The clay extender in the scoop makes it go just a little further and I have never had any clumping issues with this mix. I get whatever scoop is on sale but usually use Pet Pride brand sold at Smiths (Kroger) and whatever clay is the cheapest. None of my 8 owners have rejected this mix....so far, so good.

Research update.

We are ten days into the Fresh Aire litter and it's a pretty good litter over all.

The con about this litter is some dust when you pour it into the box.

The good stuff is that it clumps great and zero (honestly) smell , tracking is minimal.

So I think we are going to go with this one for a while and see what happens.

I'm currently using Trader Joe's Premium Pine Cat Litter, 7 lbs. for $3.49 or so.  It does a good job. There is some tracking, but Tripod's feet have a bit of long hair on the bottoms, and she has tracked every litter I've used on her, including the so-called "low-tracking."  Using a variety of litter catchers doesn't work. I have used clay, both clumping and non-clumping (I agree, they do tend to get gummy on the bottom), and for a while I was using Litter Pearls. That was terrible! Next to impossible to scoop or pick up from the carpet, and Tripod hated it. Expensive, too. I'm sticking with pine litter.

Some cats are more special than others.

To update the Fresh Aire litter

DO NOT USE IT!!!!

There was so much dust that both of my guys have respitory infections and for three days straight George would eat and then throw up.   I had to get Sub Q fluids in him.

Wow that is really terrible, I feel bad for George, Walter, and you.

I use "Worlds Best Cat Litter" and although I haven't tried every cat litter in the world, it is the best of those I have tried. It is made of what looks like coarse corn meal, clumps very well and can be flushed down the toilet.

Prior to that I used petco or petsmart clumping clay litter which was good, but not flushable and i didnt like the idea of breathing airborne silica dust while scooping.

Ah, perhaps, but Mush is one beautiful cat!  I didn't really see her markings in the other photo I saw of her.  She's one beautiful calico, reminds me of my calico Ginger!

I use Fresh Step, and also the local grocery store's store-brand, which works quite well for us. I scoop the litter twice a day, so it stays pretty fresh even with 4 or 5 using it. There are times when I have to scoop one more time during the daytime, but twice seems to keep it under control. I notice dust if I am pouring a smaller container into the large bucket I keep for the litter, but otherwise, it appears to be minimal.

They have captured my heart for life!
