It sounds like these people are very irresponsible pet owners.  As sad as it may sound, I agree with the others who have said that the cats need to be taken to a shelter.

The neighbor cats are gravitating to your house because they sense Einstien, and they also sense that your house is a "safe place."  Einstein is probably doing the excessive grooming because he senses the other cats, which is upsetting his normal routine and is stressing him out.

If you decide to call animal control, remember this:  if the animal control people come by and can't find the stray animals, they will leave.  (We all know how notorious cats are for their ability to stay under the radar.)  And, if they are captured, the cats will most likely end up in the city/county/state funded animal shelter, which may not be a "no-kill" facility.

As mean and cruel as it may sound, you might want to locate a no-kill shelter in your area that will accept the cats, and see if they can help you.  They might be able to provide cat traps that you can set out to capture the animals, and then you can take them to the shelter to be put up for adoption.

I know this all sounds very mean, but you must try and think of Einstein's health, and the welfare of those poor animals!

I do not envy your position, and wish you and Einstein the best.

thank you, a no -kill shelter will be the best, IF we call County, they have 10 days, and that is not what we want.

I appreciate the help, we are waiting until this weekend, because it suppost to rain starting tomorrow all the way til the weekend.
If the same thing after talking to them a 3.time is to no prevail the cats will be re homed , especially the Himalayan and * boots* need a good warm home, a window seal to look out from and a daily brushing.

The only thing is, we do not know if they had all their shots, if they are on flea meds, have any parasites , that is Money I just do not have to spend on 3 someone elses cats.

I will keep you posted.

Well, when you go to talk to the neighbors again, you could try asking them if they've had their shots, etc.. But I think shelters usually take care of parasites, shots, etc.. The cat rescue I used to volunteer for did, though they would seek donations from the public if a cat needed special procedures.

One tomcat had issues with spraying, which is why he was surrendered. When the usual remedies failed, they asked for donations to fund an exploratory, in case he hadn't been neutered correctly; I also heard of another tomcat that was neutered, turns out the poor kitty had a third testicle hiding in his abdomen.

The funds came in, the surgery was done, but they got it right the first time. He tested negative for the regular stuff. He did, as I recall, manage to get a new home eventually.

Some cats are more special than others.

Wow!  I can understand why you're stressed - irresponsible neighbors, a sick kitty, strain on the budget...

Maybe you're looking at this wrong, though.  First, go drink a cup of chamomile tea.    I'm sure Einstein is playing off your own emotions.  Perhaps the cats don't even stress him out, but your own stress over the cats does.  We can't hide our emotions from animals like cats; no matter how hard we try.

Second, what is Einstein's health like?  I have never - EVER - heard of any cat getting so upset over stray cats outside.  I would look into other options.  When I first read your topic I immediately thought of allergies.  He has all the symptoms.  I would think about his surroundings and his food and go from there.

Lastly, DON'T hesitate to call in "higher powers" to deal with the stray cat problem.  If you're nervous about it, think of the stray cats themselves - they're not getting good care either.  We don't need more stray cats or irresponsible cat owners in this country.  It's not rude to protect animals being neglected.

I really feel sorry for you - I can only imagine how upsetting all this can be.  But really try to relax, take a deep breath, and go give Einstein a hug!  I hope things get better for you real soon!!

The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. If heed is not paid to this, it is not true music, but a diabolical bawling and twanging.

I noticed the comment that you are tired of the cats pooping in your yard.  If they use one place you can spray the area with ammonia.  It is cheap and it works.  I had a spot in my yard that neighborhood cats used.  I sprayed the ammonia and kept it fresh for a couple of weeks, and no more cat poop.

If it is the whole yard, I'm not sure what the solution would be.
