I am worried that it will kill my grass, I am just tired of it.
If you have an animal, it is your responsibility to take care of them.
It is getting cold now here in Texas, I am really curious what they gonna do when it gets real cold again.
last year we had 26F, that is freezing for Texas.
If they are still outside when it gets real cold, I will put them in my cat carrier and take them to a no kill shelter.

Oh I agree that it is the owner's responsibility to care for their animals.  Unfortunately there are those that think cats have the right to roam free and they don't have to restrain them.  This is a pet peeve of mine, which is why I have strictly indoor cats.  (I also feel that they are safer indoors.)

The comment about the ammonia was just a suggestion for a defensive measure for your yard.  I understand the concern about killing the grass, and I can't say if it would or not.  I used it on soft dirt - so no help there.

I wish you the best luck with this situation.

oh get this, we have kittens now, yes, the what my husband calls * feral * cats, had kittens, and they are all outside.
Now I have to deal with that.
We spend $500 on Einstein in the last 6 weeks, because their cats roam free, taunt our cat trough the windows, spray my door, sit on my window seal, in my cars, my driveway.
My husband has had it.!!!!!
We know it is not the cats fault, we do not blame them, but, our concern is EInstein, thats it.
we also have to dogs, that are our life.
I am done.!

Gosh what a mess. I read the whole thread and I feel your pain. People like your neighbor would totally piss me off.  I would say if this semi feral mama cat is on your property, you have every right to take mom and kitties to a shelter, hopefully no kill.  Check with your local humane society or cat rescue organization who would take the kitties.  The US Humane Soc website has a feral cat org list and so does Alley Cat Allies site.  Once you connect with an organization, see if they cannot come out to your neighbors and offer to fix these cats.  As for Einstein, maybe the best thing to do is to fence off the yard so no cats come in and upset him.  Look at my website for directions for a do it yourself cat fence.  Keeps your cat in and keeps other cats out. For the time being, I would advise drawing the curtains on the windows that he can see the cats of, if that is possible.  Good luck

we already have a 6 foot fence surrounding our backyard, they still come in.
You do not / can not put up a fronyard fence.
Home owners association.
Where we live our community, people live a certain way, we have home surrounding us, that reach the 20 mill.
people set themselves and other a certain standards of the way we live and raise our kids, behave our selfs.
That's why these people stick out like a sore thumb.
We all don't know what they are doing here.
And what we/ the neighborhood can see, live there way and the animals run rampid.

Well, try some add on onto the 6 ft backyard fence if you can - basically put in tomato stakes and deer netting to make it taller and unscalable by these cats and maybe restrict Einstein's view to the back vs. front yard windows. It is pretty much the same directions as on my website, but you will need U shaped nails to stick the stakes to the wooden fence. I can get away with a lot more because i live in an old neighborhood (goes from middle class to multimillion dollar homes 2 blocks from me on the water) and there is really no homeowners assoc rules. I dont cut my grass and replaced it with native shrubs, prairie, trees and I know in  some neighborhoods my yard would be a case for hysteria, but I figure I am doing far more to support a microhabitat for birds/butterflies than a monoculture of chemically-treated lawn.  I started small, degrassing a patch here and there and in 10 years, I got rid of all my grass and have flowers blooming most of the summer and fall, so the neighbors actually like the look.  So the cat fence was not even on their radar screen - they are already used to all the other funky stuff in the yard.  Anyhow the deer netting is very narrow and black and virtually invisible. Good luck.

I am not spending another dime out of my own pocket.
We have spend like I said $500 on Einstein in the last 6 weeks, I am done.
Why should I spend more money on cats that are not mine?
Because I have neighbors that live like there in a lower class neighborhood?
We all here keep our lawns neat, because of the night critters that come out at night, like raccoons, opossums, and other pests, which carry fleas .
WE live in a wooded cummunity, thats where the name comes from.

we have to get crafty with this problem.
And quick.

Have you spoken to the HOA? They could go after the neighbors and make them either take care of their cats or leave. As for the ammonia--do you think if you put it on some rags and put those around the perimeter of your front lawn, it would help? Or maybe dilute the ammonia and test it on a small area--cats' noses are incredibly sensitive. Or perhaps citrus peels--cats hate citrus. I've heard of people actually peeing along the perimeter of their property to keep deer out, but I think it would be better if, um, it was collected in private and applied after dark.

Definately borrow some humane traps and catch the cats, especially the kittens. And have animal control go after them for negligence.

There have been times when a strange cat has appeared on my property, and Tripod freaked. My reaction had nothing to do with it. So to the OP who said your reaction is triggering Einstein's reaction--sorry, no offense, but that's not it. Tripod is 18 1/2 years old, and she not only has attitude, she's got whupass as well.

Best of luck in getting these Neanderthals out of the neighborhood--and their kitties into responsible, indoor-only homes. And getting Einstein well--great name!

Some cats are more special than others.
