My daughter and I trapped 2 kittens we saw at a KFC resturant. They were very frightened and hungry. We spent a few days getting acquainted. The first one we trapped seemed healthy, normal stool, and good appetite. The second had diahrea and vomited blood, but a good appetite. We kept them away from our house cats in a small room. We took them to the vet today. Did the cat leukemia and aids testing both negative. They had fevers of 105. The vet did not look at them to my knowlege. She said they probably had distemper. We could take them home with antibiotics, Our concern was for our other five cats. We are heartsick at the thought of endangering them and spending hundreds of dollars that seill could end up with a negative outlook. What to do? What to do? I think that they are probably about 12 weeks old

Keep them isolated for now.  And tomorrow morning, call your vet and talk with her.  Ask about treatment and prognosis.  I can understand that you don't want to spend $$$ on treatment if the kitties are not likely to be able to recover, but at the same time you don't want to euthanize them if they can recover.  I just don't know enough about distemper to advise you and think your vet is the best place to start.

My advice to you is to avoid letting them learn humans are friendly.. don't handle, touch or interact with um expect to give meds, once the distemper is gone Spay/Neuter them to prevent further breeding/ plus problems that may cause problems with them and people, then after giving them a rabies shot turn them loose.

Build a shelter on the release site and put food down.

There are too many cats in our shelters/ besides having terrible odds for adoption feral cats do NOT make good pets, and they are really like wildlife.

Frightened and hungry? Those probably are not feral kittens - just unwanted kittens someone dumped in the bushes. You're a real lifesaver. Were they feral kittens, I doubt you would have been able to catch them.

"To your knowledge the vet did not look at them?" Huh? Just what the hell are you paying for, then? If the guy sits in the back, reading Playboy, and lets unqualified staff do all the work ... it's time for a new vet!

Now ... for the kittens .... you're right to keep them apart from the family pets, for now. Still, since they are likley accustomed to people already, step up to the plate and be their 'family' too. Talk to them, play with them, love them. For all we know, the high temp was nothing more than the kitties feeling terrified. Feed them, water them, take notes.

They might have worms, or some other parasite. They 'might' have anything - even 'just' broken hearts.

She probably caught them in a cat trap.

Given the insane number of unwanted cats living in animal shelters on death row. What can legally be done to tame cats on the part of the owners, the kind/grade of food most tame cats get. I think if possible (born to a feral, and raised by her/ NOT dumped ) These cases should just be left to go wild after being spayed/neutered as its probably a better existence/diet then most cats get.

If you care, after fixing them make your turf friendly to them-rather then shipping them off to unknown possibly horrible fates.
