Help please ??

My little male Ragdoll, Oliver is just about 16 weeks old now. He has suddenly decided he won't eat his canned food and just kinda picks at his dry food. I've found him trying to steal our dog's food, which he really seems to enjoy, and he still begs for human food, which he's done since we brought him home !

He also prefers the dog's water to his own.

He was so underweight when we got him, 15 0unces at almost 10 weeks of age...I'm getting worried.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

How long has this been going on?  Have you changed anything about his food? If so, maybe he didn't like the change.

If it's been more than a day or if it continues tomorrow, time to check with the vet.  Kitties can't go without eating for very long before they will get sick, so you want to make sure he's at least eating something.

Hi CatsDolls...hope all is well !

This has been going on for about a week now. It started out with him refusing any tuna flavored canned food, so we started just giving him turkey flavored canned...he was happy with that for a day or two, and now he won't eat the turkey flavored either.

I keep his dry food down all the time, he will "ask" when he wants his canned food. He acts like he's hungry, takes a sniff and then just walks away. Then he may go over and kinda pick at his dry food. But if someone is eating something, he'll cry and try to get some...doesn't matter what it is....and really likes the dog food when he can sneak it !

He's been begging since we first brought him home...thought that was kind of strange for a kitten....? We don't give him any human food at all.

You need to get him to a vet, preferably tomorrow, certainly this week.

I've had this happen a few times with cats; each time there was a medical cause. The cause can be everything from a bad tooth to kidney failure. It will not go away with time - even if he suddenly decides to eat something tonight.

I agree, this does sound like a vet visit is in order, just to be sure.  I do wonder if perhaps the breeder you got him from may have been "treating" him with people food and he's learned from her to beg for it.  That could also help explain why he was underweight.

Let us know what happens - we're pulling for you and the little fellow!

And of course, he just ate dinner....canned food. I think he's trying to make me crazy !

I'll take him in tomorrow for a check. He's acting fine...playing, purring, stinking up his litter box, etc.

Better safe than sorry....I'll keep you posted.

Thanks everyone...I'm glad you guys are out there !!!
