I'm at my wits end here. I've posted before and I just don't know what to do.  My 3yo male cat Lucky is peeing where he shouldn't.  He is indoor/outdoor. I let him out when I wake up, he comes in when I go to work and if I'm not home too late I let him out when I get home and he comes in before I go to bed.  On the weekends of course when I'm home all day he goes in and out whenever he wants.

The problem started about 5 months ago.  He was peeing on the little rug I had in front of the staircase going upstairs.  After several washings and spryaings with Natures Miracle I decided I was just going to do away with the rug....problem solved......or so I thought.  He started now peeing downstairs in the basement in front of the kitchen sink.  So I cleaned that up several times.  Got fed up and just finally shut the door so he can't even get in that room.  I sprayed the floor with the Nature's Miracle, replaced the area rug in there, shut the door and he hasn't been in that room for about 3 weeks.  Well last night my fiance  forgot to shut the door.  Can you guess what I found this morning right in that same spot!?!?!?!?!?!?!?  Obviously the Nature's Miracle isn't doing the job!

I do have another cat, 1 1/2yo.  They get along great!  I also have 2 litterboxes in the basement.  In the room next to the room where Lucky is peeing.  You walk down the stairs and turn right to go to the litterboxes and left to go into the Family room.  Why he's choosing to go left and pee in that room is something that I've been trying to figure out for a long time now.

I feel bad keeping him out of that room b/c we have a high window sill and he LOVES sleeping on it but I can't trust him to be in there. Please help! I don't know what to do....thank you.

I should also add that I have brought him to the vet and he has gotten a clean bill of health.

Do you happen to know if there were any changes in your home when your cat first starting urinating outside of the litterbox? It's possible some sort of environmental change could have caused it if your cat has a clear bill of health.

No changes at all

And like I said, when the door to that room is closed he goes to his litterbox.  It's something about that particular spot!

Is your litterbox open or covered? If he goes when the door is closed maybe he likes a little privacy?

Something must have happen near the litterboxes that he is choosing the other site. Add another litterbox. You need three boxes for two cats. I find one of mine likes to pee in one and poop in the other one. You need one extra box plus the two you have for cats. As for that spot, I would use a cleaner such as Fantastic with Citrus smell. They hate the smell of citrus.-
anything that has an orange smell will work. I use the orange smell for under my bed to discourage crawling under the bed.
I love them on the bed but not under. Both of mine are indoor cats so all of their litter is inside. My older cat, Natasha, started peeing and pooping in the bathtub because there was a problem where Alex attacked her at the litter box. I solved it by placing litter boxes in two areas. They like their own space too. She stopped using the bath tub.
