| Hemingway was to the vet yesterday for his dislocated hip. But unfortunately they could not get it back in it's socket. There was too much scar tissue. When we found him it had already been like that for a while. At least he is not in pain. Though after the vet tried getting it back he will be on cat pain killers for 6 days. But she said after that he should not feel pain. Now the only way to fix it is a surgery that cost anywhere between 1200 dollars and 2500 dollars according to the vet. But we already spend over 1500 dollars over the last month on vet bills for the kitten that died and Hemingway. So we don't have that kind of money at the moment. Though if he starts to be in pain I will sell my engagement ring. The vet did say that cats can live with a dislocated hip with no pain. But I will try save up money so he can get the surgery. Will also have to look into a good cat insurance just in case something else happens along the way. So if anyone could recommend one that would be great. We already have the health plan with Banfield vets, but it doesn't cover surgery. Besides the hip problem the rest looked fine and he had gained 1 pound since last visit which is good. Though he still needs to gain some more, so he isn't so skinny.

I am sorry to hear about Hemingway's hip. It sounds like you have a good plan on waiting until you get enough more or he seems in pain. I am happy that Hemingway is fine , except for his hip.

| This isn't insurance, but Care Credit, www.carecredit.com , enables you to make payments on procedures. They cover anything. See if your vet participates; if not, they can tell you how to get your vet to become a member. Hemingway is a beautiful cat. I assume you took him in as a stray; do you think he was HBC (hit by car) and had his hip dislocated that way? This recession is nowhere near over, folks.... I think I read somewhere a long time ago that one of the reasons people got wedding/engagement rings was that if they needed money, they could pawn/sell the ring(s), and buy new ones later, after the financial storm blew over.

Thanks I will look into that carecredit. When my husband found Hemingway wandering around our appartment complex he had a flea collar but no tags. Nor did he have any tattoes or microchip. We have had a flyer up now for around 14 days in the local petsmart but nobody have called to claim him. And we had also checked at the local shelter if anyone had been looking for him. So I got the feeling that someone dumped him. I'm not sure how his hip got dislocated since that is how we found him. But it could be from being hit by a car or maybe have fallen from a balcony. There is a very busy road close to us, so it seems likely he got hit by a car.

| If he is in pain, you may want to consider having the leg amputated. I have a three-legged cat (he was born with a deformed left rear leg) and he perfectly happy, he gets around just fine and if actually faster at running than all of my other cats (save maybe my 7 month old kitten, but that's kind of a given). That surgery should cost a lot less. It may take Hemmingway a little bit of time to get used to it, but it's going to beat being in pain. That's one reason we had Aster's leg amputated. One of the main nerves was on backward and it was jointed like an ostritch leg. He was in a lot of pain. Now, you would never know that he once had a deformed leg or that he had ever known that much pain. He is sooooo happy! Just a thought/suggestion.
