I've been gone for awhile lost my job back in February and just now getting really serious about looking. I've had a couple interviews, but I need to throw out thanks to whomever it was who on here who first told me about Blue Buffalo.
I was at Petsmart today to pick up my monthly bag of kibble, and the regional and corporate people were there, and I may have just stumbled into a part-time job with Blue Buffalo!

It's got to get better because it can't be getting any worse, right?
I keep thinking about joining the Peace Corps, it wouldn't solve my problems but would put them back into perspective. But I can't really do that with my fur-family, and I couldn't entrust my cats to anyone else.

Not set in stone, but it was promising for a random chance meeting. They were telling me about Blue Buffalo had just launched a duck & chicken wilderness blend. (Of course I had to buy a bag for the furkids and see how they like it)
Funny thing is, that I had just come from a job interview. I'm torn on that opportunity, it's the job I had wanted 6 years ago, and couldn't get an interview. Now it's not the job I'm looking for, and I've had two interviews. It's less money than I was making, it's hourly pay not salary, and it's not what I'm looking for anymore (Customer Service rep, when I'm looking for Admin Assistant or Receptionist). I need to work, but I need to be happy doing it too, right?

| I've been out for over 3 1/2 years. I'm living off a small inheritance, which is being administered by my dictatorial younger sister. I've been on one job interview--thought I had it, and while I was out front waiting for my bus home, they sent me an email saying sorry, thanks but no thanks. I've been in manufacturing most of my life, but that was the last job I had, and I didn't do well. I'm too slow to keep up with the assembly line. I'm trying to get back into security, even though it's been nearly 25 years. And it doesn't help that the cost of getting a guard card has gone up, plus because of 9/11, the requirements have increased. I've seen a job for a public safety officer, but I'd have to go to Corona in Riverside County--I live in Orange County--to interview. I've also seen an entry-level office job for the Employment Development Department, though it requires going to Sacramento to take the test. Both jobs are in my town. I've been checking the cost, and I figure it would cost me nearly $14 to go to the one in Corona, and nearly $96 to test for the other (plane plus buses). The safety officer job pays $9-$12/hour, the general office assistant would pay between $2006 to $2436 a month. You can only apply once a year for the office assistant job, and the test is weighted 100%. A score of 70% or better puts you in the running. Should i apply for both, spend money to get on buses and trains to get to and from Corona, or buses and planes to take a test in Sacramento? Seems kind of extreme lengths to get a job, but I'm sure there are people who've had to do similar things. These days, you have to get a job, and put happiness on the back burner. If you get a part-time job, take it but do whatever it takes to get them to give you a full-time job. Any income is better than no income.
