My cats are indoor only so they almost never get fleas. This year they have had two separate infestations. I ran into someone tonight who happens to be a vet and he said he's noticed that it's been a particularly bad year for fleas as well.
Anyone else think it's been any better or worse for fleas than usual?

Most Definately! I thought maybe it was because I live out in the country, but NOTHING seems to be getting rid of the fleas! I've tried frontline, advantage, advatix, comfortis. The fleas just won't die!

you are not alone, we have been fighting a battle with that pest for that last 2 weeks.
Our dogs and cat are on Flea meds, the have flea collars, the have spray on flea repellent , we sprayed the yard and bombed the house 2x.
I am on my wits end.
I hope now, we will see some improvement.

I had my own flea battle this Summer - it was hotter and dryer than normal.  Couldn't believe how much work was involved.  Ended up bathing both cats in flea shampoo (one hated it), treating the carpets/furniture/etc twice, washing everything in the house they touched, and vacuuming daily to catch any newly hatched fleas.  Had to comb the worst affected cat daily until we got past this episode - thankfully she adores being combed .  Have seen no fleas so I think they are gone.

Figured out where the fleas came from.... someone put bark dust down near my home.  Then the fleas started.  The bark dust will be treated with flea killer as well so we don't have a repeat of this Summer.

Depends where you live. We are in WI. We have cats who go in and out and found only 2 fleas on them and no flea dirt. In the past 10 yrs, probably a handful of fleas. And this is in a yard that is unmowed, has brambles, flowers, some grass, etc. Also various flea bearing critters hide out in the yard - shrews, mice, chipmunks rabbits and the cats do catch them, but have not gotten a flea infestation. One word of warning, we got some holistic natural oil based flea treatment and it completely ruined the cats' fur, as in took most of it out where the treatment was applied (by the scruff). I think it was peppermint or some kind of oil. Dont get it for the kitties. It was not only ineffective (the fleas that we found this year were right after treatment), it is also toxic.

I have heard a lot about issues with flea prevention.  I have 5 cats that are indoors/outdoors and three dogs....after a trip to a local animal shelter they said they are using TriForce for all of their animals because Frontline just isn't working as well anymore....I tried it and it seems to be working fine.

Good luck- it can be so frustrating!
