My cat is 14-15 years old. We got him as a kitten when I was 6 or 7 to help me cope with my brother's death. He is my baby.
A month ago, maybe, I noticed an odd place on his belly. It felt like there was something there. It worried me, but as mother and I are both out of work right now we couldn't afford to take him to the vet. We were just barely able to feed ourselves and the cats.
These past few days he's gotten really bad. He's not eating, he's all but stopped grooming himself, and I think he's in pain. A couple days ago it got so bad that he just layed on my bed and cried loudly. It was then I decided to have him put down. I decided I never wanted to see him in that much pain again.
Mom finally got money today, which is why we're going. The place on his belly has at least doubled in size. I've little doubt that whatever it is is untreatable. Today, I'm losing my baby. And I just don't know how to handle it.
If we're able, I'd like to have him cremated, that way I can take him with me wherever I end up in life.

He's gone. The worst part, besides losing him, is that he was scared. I tried so hard to calm him down, but he was so scared. I wish we could've done it here, so at least then he wouldn't be so scared. He's being cremated, we'll have his ashes next week.

Well, Maruul, you will see by my thread below yours that I've just passed through a very bad loss myself, and my heart is right there with you.
There is nothing worse than seeing pain and fear in anyone we love, be they human or not. Nothing worse in this world.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. These animals, especially when they are attached to during times of acute need (to which they respond fully) are treasures. And they are heartbreakers.
Allow all your grief to flow and go on its own merit. Grieve entirely, for that is how we honor their lives.

Hi maruul,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty, oh how heartbroken you must be right now. I will be praying for you, that you will be at peace knowing your little guy isn't in anymore pain or discomfort. He loved you as much as you did him.
Again, I'm so very sorry.

| Maruul - I'm so sorry! I remember you, you haven't been here for a while. You did the best you could do. I'm guessing that if the place grew that quickly, you're right, there wasn't anything else to do. Even if you were able to take him to the vet as soon as you noticed, it probably wouldn't have made a difference in the end. What did make a big difference is that you were there with him today. Even though he may have seemed afraid, he knew you were with him and he knew you would take care of him. And you did. You loved him enough to let him go. Now he will always live in your heart. Let your memories comfort you. Come talk to us all you want, we'll listen and help you find peace.

Maruul, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.
Take comfort in knowing he's not in pain anymore, and that you gave him all the love and care you could while he was alive. He may have been scared, but you were there for him for his last moments. He'll be watching over you wherever you go. We're all here for you in these hard times. We're here to listen.

Maruul, I am so very sorry. I doubt you could have saved him, but you were THERE for him on that day. He wasn't alone. That was the last gift of love you gave to him and I hope your heart will find peace. My Shiloh, age 19, was put to sleep today. He was scared too. My vet gave him an injection to calm him and put him into a quiet sleep first, but he was still scared and I know how helpless a feeling that is. Just keep your heart open for another love and don't be hard on yourself.
